Today, there was immersion of goddess Durga in our locality since I'm from West Bengal and it was Durga puja time. I got my period yesterday and when me and my mother went for the remaining rituals of the immersion of Durga maa, I sat in our Durga mandir and told my mother that it's just a body process,and don't be tensed for this,and asked why should I sacrifice my comfort for the sake of some meaningless norms that girls can't go inside the mandir during menstruations!! My mother didn't stop me like everytime she does, and I made her believe that how pure women are during this menstruations even. We are worshipping ma Durga and at the same time, making discrimination between women and men!! She listened, she believed. Well, it was probably the best memory I made at this year's durga puja❤️
Well,there's nothing wrong in going inside the temple during periods.It was not allowed in those days because our grannies and their grannies had to use cloth pads which doesnt absorb the blood properly and results in stains everywhere. So to make them feel comfortable they weren't allowed to go into temple and other public places .But previous generation misunderstood the cause and adopted the thought that women are impure during periods which is bullshit! There's also another scientific reason that in a temple the garbagriha (sanctum)is the most powerful and purest place with lots of energies in it.When a woman is menstruating she also becomes one of the purest being(as she releases blood from her garbha bag or the ovary)and if she goes near the sanctum the whole energy is transferred to her and she feels heavy or to put it in simple words an imbalance is created in the body energies.Anyway all these is minute and is not bigger than the mental health of the woman.No one should be shamed for menstruating.

When I was in school and asked a female teacher to light the diya for morning prayer she refused saying she's on her periods so she can't. We can assume if teachers think like this how will they educate young girls correctly about menstruation.
Hinduism never says a woman is impure, it just say that going to temples or doing arti and puja during periods affects sushmasharira or the inner anatomy of body, as women is really sensitive during periods. Going to temples or doing religious practices leads her getting irregular periods and can affect her menstruation health. For letting religious practices not affect a woman body, it was made a rule that she should not indulge in all these pujas. And to make it easier to understand for nornal people it was said that she is "impure". And that rule carried on without people getting to know the actual reason. Btw you speak really nice, much love

I belong to a middle class Maharashtrian family my relatives at our village make the womens sit in the corner for 5 days without touching anything and also their utensils are kept different. Few years back there was ganpati ji at our home, aarti was going on, same like we all do I sat in the bedroom not to hurt anyone's feelings especially daadi....After the aarti My uncle came with the aarti ki thali and said le lo aarti kuch nahi hota... I guess that moment was the ice breaker. In our home periods is not considered taboo anymore. My brother and dad don't shy away from buying sanitary sanitary napkin for us. At first it felt Like a crime to touch gods murti while on periods, but now it feels totaly okay, and I am still alive and ghar bhi mast hai kuch barbaad bhi nahi hua😂... I feel every girl should get a environment where she is comforted and is able to tell her problems freely.

When I was in school and asked a female teacher to light the diya for morning prayer she refused saying she's on her periods so she can't. We can assume if teachers think like this how will they educate young girls correctly about menstruation.

Hinduism never says a woman is impure, it just say that going to temples or doing arti and puja during periods affects sushmasharira or the inner anatomy of body, as women is really sensitive during periods. Going to temples or doing religious practices leads her getting irregular periods and can affect her menstruation health. For letting religious practices not affect a woman body, it was made a rule that she should not indulge in all these pujas. And to make it easier to understand for nornal people it was said that she is "impure". And that rule carried on without people getting to know the actual reason.

I just want to say one thing , is anyone here who have watched MAHABHARAT directed by B.R.chopra .usme ek episode hai jisme dropadi ka vastra haran hota hai vha vo saaf mention krti hai ki maira ritu strav(periods bleeding) chalu hai, plz mujhe sabha mai mat le jaiye. Aur jab uska vastra haran ho rha hota hai tab as we all know vo bhgavan krishna ko yaad krti hai and krishna ji unki help krte hai. Iss process mai bhagwaan ko touch krna wala rule toh apply hua nhi. Phir kyu hum ese bekar rules abhi tak follow krta aa rha hai. Jab ese mahan grantho mai hi hume varsho phle shiksha di ja chuki hai. Phir bhi hum sakshat bhagavn ki baat chordhkar kisi manusmriti me mention kiye hue illogical rules ko follow kr rhe hai. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I belong to a middle class Maharashtrian family my relatives at our village make the womens sit in the corner for 5 days without touching anything and also their utensils are kept different.
Few years back there was ganpati ji at our home, aarti was going on, same like we all do I sat in the bedroom not to hurt anyone's feelings especially daadi....After the aarti My uncle came with the aarti ki thali and said le lo aarti kuch nahi hota... I guess that moment was the ice breaker. In our home periods is not considered taboo anymore. My brother and dad don't shy away from buying sanitary sanitary napkin for us. At first it felt Like a crime to touch gods murti while on periods, but now it feels totaly okay, and I am still alive and ghar bhi mast hai kuch barbaad bhi nahi hua😂... I feel every girl should get a environment where she is comforted and is able to tell her problems freely.
