Well, tEcHnIcAlLy Sephiroth’s Classic mode and the true final boss of World of Light are boss rushes but it would be nice to just have a designated boss section in the menu
@chrizzel28 Yeah Boss Battles was one of my favorite modes from Brawl. It really is baffling considering the only thing that would "need" to be added, if at all; would be a rest area...
One thing I really like about spirits is how much more ground they cover than trophies. Not only were they clearly easier to add, but they could use characters that would have never been considered for trophies like Geno. That doesn’t excuse the lack of descriptions for spirits tho
I really like that spirits were able to cover characters that are very hard/impossible to translate into 3D models, and that they have an actual impact on the real game itself (with their own custom fights and battle-changing effects in other modes) rather than just being side collectables that exist only to be admired. But yeah I agree the lack of descriptions is a big negative. I don't even know who over half of these characters are or their significance to their games...

Smash Run really should’ve come back. It was a fun and unique mode with a lot of things to consider before the timer is up. I would say that it and Boss Battles should’ve been in Smash Ultimate- or at the very least, the next game. Funny to think that the 3DS has a better side mode than the Wii U. (Smash Tour bad)
The greatest adventure mode for any future smash game would take an element from all previous adventure modes. - Melee's unique challenge stages like escaping Zebes, running down the F-Zero track and Hyrule maze. - Brawl's cutscenes, level designs and boss battles - Smash Run's enemy variety pushed even further - World of Light's amazing and interactive overworld and voice acting It would be the perfect video game.
Since getting the game, I've felt that Ultimate lacks in the extra modes department. While it's easy to rip apart/forget about Smash 4, it's hard to deny that it gave you a sizable amount of extra things to occupy your time. Obviously, not every mode was good, but the variety was much appreciated from a personal POV. Incidentally, I like Smash Tour, if only because a typical round goes by in about 20 minutes and it being dumb fun. However, Smash Run is _much_ better. I'd love that to be implemented in HD with multiplayer. I'm among the camp who prefers Event Matches over Spirits. I do get what you mean by Spirit fights encompassing a larger variety of references, but I would argue that Events have unique objectives. For example, one event in Brawl had you survive an entire lap on Rumble Falls. One in Smash 4 had you to not let an armada of Mr. Game & Watches touch the ground. Melee's Event 51 felt like a genuine "final boss" challenge with the showdown against Giga Bowser, Mewtwo, and Ganondorf. Spirit fights are fun, but I prefer the unique style of Event Matches. Trophies have been one of my favorite modes since Melee. I'm that kind of player who enjoys learning about my favorite series, so reading the flavor text felt like a nice treat. I even dig the increased humor in Smash 4's descriptions (some might think that they try too hard with the jokes there). Again, I see your logic on the Spirits, but the trophies remain an irreplaceable favorite mode of mine. Sorry. I could go on longer, but will stop here, Odyssey. Don't want to take too much of your time. Good video, dude.
I know this probably wouldn't be possible, but I think it would be cool if a Smash Bros. game had a mode where you could create your own Spirit Battles. You could apply specail effects like the battle taking place on a single portion of a stage, apply hazard floors, and so on. You could also share them worldwide and other people can play them and gain some sort of points for doing so.
(7:30) Several trophies were just models pulled straight from other games, where even the texture were exactly the same. Kinda like the spirits, but in 3D form.
I actually made a concept for what Ultimate's All-Stars mode could have been when the game first came out. Melee had the player fight them randomly, Brawl grouped them in series and Smash 4 ordered them according to their release date. Ultimate could order the fighters based on their Smash apparition, going backward (with two additional stages at the beginning for the Fighters Pass). You would begin by fighting the newcomers in Ultimate, then Sm4sh's newcomers, then Brawl and so on. Since some games had a lot of newcomers, including echo fighters, their fighters would be split in two or three stages. The second-to-last stage would feature the four unlockable characters in the original Smash, while the ultimate stage would be against the original 8 fighters. This final encounter against the initial roster (not only of Smash 64 but also Ultimate) would close the loop.
Would’ve been cool if they made a mode to make your own custom alts to use in game though that would be a legal nightmare for characters like Sonic, Pac-Man, Cloud, etc.
Ok, but are we like... _seriously_ going to ignore Brawl's Boss Rush. And no, the final WoL battle and Sepiroth's Classic Mode don't count. Have it be like Brawl's where you also had a set amount of healing items to fight every boss in the game INCLUDING Galeem and Darkhon.
Yes. Yes! YES! I'm no game developer but it seems all they'd have to do is make a 'rest area' between battles. Other than that the team working on this game already has enough bosses, healing items, and the ability to fight any boss with any character (in co-op too: including CPU's i believe; hopefully up to 8 players, or at least 4...). But most of the assests should already be there. Just need to make it happen...
I honestly get why we don't have trophies for every single reference, but considering we already have models for the fighters and assist trophies in the game it boggles my mind they couldn't at least give us that. 🤷🏻♂️
If All Star Mode was brought back in Ultimate, how I would have done it is have it be one long battle, but it would be split into different sections based on year of debut, and after each section is done, the stage will morph while showing the next year gap you'll be fighting, as well as give you a free healing item. After beating it, you would get the character's Final Smash spirit, much like their Fighter spirits in Classic Mode (these could either be hand drawn similar to the Everyone is Here artwork or just their in-game models)
Honestly I would have loved a Spirit creator where you could fight fanmade spirits made by people and make yours. I was honestly surprised they never added It.

14:17: WHAT?! Also, they could make a Metorid-Vania by fusing Smash Run and Subspace. Like, you start in one room in a maze and have to unlock more areas by fighting characters and bosses. Maybe have a juiced-up Master Hand when everything's been found.
I feel like descriptions may have been the bulk of the trophies development. The models are often ripped from the original games and the descriptions often required a good deal of research into the character featured.
Unpopular opinion, I loved Smash Tour, It has stuff I wish was better but I would love if it was closer to Mario Party but instead of Stars It's Characters and instead of the States in Tour you collect Spirits and every "Match" Is like the final battles from Smash Run, the Final match being customizable to how everyone wants to play and you give characters Spirits that you collected during the Match. Other then that I love it I played it more then Online
I think I would want a Subspace/Smash Run mode where you could upgrade stats, but using a level-up system. You could choose which stats to upgrade using an upgrade point system similar to badge in Paper Mario. In addition to things like Attack, Launch, Defense, Speed, Jump, and Weight stats, there could be special things to unlock that could have unique effects like spirits do. As you level up, you gain more upgrade points to use.
I think a Break the Targets editor would be amazing, and offload a bunch of dev work onto L̶u̶n̶a̶t̶i̶c̶s̶ the players. All youd need to do is require that it be beaten by the characters you want to play the stage with before uploading, kind of like Mario Maker
I can’t be the only one who is currently begging for the next smash Bros installment to at least have a story that is good enough like subspace emissary and not like world of light
1:23 Smash Brawl actually preceded Angry Birds, which I should mention is my favourite game series. Pls bring at least one rep from that franchise to the next Smash game
What surprised me somewhat is that Ultimate already had the ground work for some other alternate modes. You can play as Master Hand for one battle in World of Light, why isn't that some form of unlockable mode such as a Mob Smash alternative or even a special Versus option? As much as I don't like the gimmicky special bosses, why aren't there Boss challenge special modes? While it would take more work, did anyone ever consider letting players create Spirit Battle-type scenarios to challenge, or a method of tackling randomly created scenarios?
Subspace Emissary is the kind of stuff that should be it's own game, not a side mode of a multiplayer game. About All Star: that mode should've been added as a bonus for the people that got all DLC characters.
About break the targets, to me, it's basically the combo trials from traditional fighters since they teach you things about the character while being it's own challenge, there are fighters with over 40 characters with several combo trials for each so I don't think just having a break the targets stage per character is that crazy
You did forget something, it is still a mode but it could have been greatly expanded upon in Ultimate. Photo Studio was a mode in SM4SH Wii U where you would use trophies to make cool photos but since there are no photos, you could have used fighters and put them in cool poses with unique effects like battle damage (a cut feature from Brawl) and you could make photos from the game a whole lot cooler instead of character doing a pose after they finished a move. It has a lot of potential
I think Brawl style Break The Targets could work. Just add more than 5. If they could make 24 target/platforms stages in the first game they can at least make 20. No items though. Stage 2 and 5 have items you want to use the same way with every character which makes it less fun.
I'm not a fan of Ultimate's Classic mode, and honestly would have preferred at least the option for a more generic mode, or the option of selecting multiple routes. While the idea of special bosses sounds neat, I'm not fond of actually fighting those increasingly gimmicky special bosses. But Classic mode locks each character to a specific boss; you will always face Dracula as Simon and will never have the chance to face Dracula as Mario. The fixed preceding fights can be a bit dull as well, or can end up feeling a bit too gimmicky. It sounds like a nice nod to have Ryu fight Stamina battles, but in practice I want to play Ryu in actual Smash Bros style matches instead of the lesser Stamina mode. I'm also not that big of a fan of the bonus level. And I hate how the credits shooter extra has morphed into a mode that you are expected to play. And the whole Continue system seems off, like you should suffer the difficulty drop if you choose to continue *without* paying extra (and possibly also having to restart the last match), while paying Gold or a Ticket should let you continue without decreasing difficulty. Classic also seems to offer horrible rewards for the time spent. Then again, Spirits are already a fairly poor reward, while multiple aspects of Ultimate feel like they were designed for microtransactions. (Heck, the game even has multiple currencies, with Gold, SP, and expensive/rare Gold Tickets. And time-sinks that just beg for real-money-fueled accelerators. The Spirit Board is designed to encourage people to keep logging in. Etc.)
I mean if we're being honest smash 4's implementation of classic mode was different enough that it could be considered its own mode... no one's complaining it's gone tho
I missed the unranked quickplay in Smash 4 with For Fun and For Glory. other than that I think I want Break the Targets back, it's a lot more fun to speedrun than just doing computer battles.
Geez, I never thought I'd disagree with as many takes in this as I did. I felt WoL was a boring, grindy romp that's always too long, even when you "make it easier" with spirits, nowhere near comparable to past Adventure modes. The references are scarce and far too little (there's ONE reference area on the main WoL map and then everything else is sub-maps and little cameos like buildings based on consoles). Subspace and Adventure both have the edge over it imo, taking much better advantage of the platforming element (while still throwing in references of their own AND, in Brawl's case, fun cinematography in cutscenes), instead of being a clump of menus and fights that tire you out of even spotting the references with how many there are. Ironically, I thought Smash Tour had potential. You said there was "too little fighting", but from my experience, I always ended up in TOO MANY fights instead. Everyone just kept wanting to cluther the same spaces, even on the "big" map. XD (though it definitely suffered from a lack of options, including computer difficulty settings, available matches, final match options...) I think Brawl's Targets is the second best outcome, and the best realistic one. Even with reused assets, with a roster this big, it'd take an eternity for the Smash dev team to account for all possible form of attack for each individual character and then design whole-ass stages around them, so having gimped but coop-able levels instead seems like the best solution. Same goes for Board the Platforms, where I don't think just "reusing assets" would be enough. The biggest reason Smash Run didn't return imo is likely how many assets would have to be upgraded. Keep in mind it was only possible in the first place because of how many assets could straightup just be taken from other 3DS games, including Sakurai's own Kid Icarus Uprising (which explains why it has so many enemies). And I much prefer Events over Spirits. Sure, Spirits are much bigger in numbers and thus can shove references everywhere, but I think "just fight this character from this series" is a lot lamer than entire scenarios being described amongst the cast. If everyone (here the characters who ended up as spirits) is special, then no one (and in this case especially the fighters) is. I do, however, agree that spirits have missed potential in the form of lacking the descriptions that trophies had.
I like Events over Spirits mainly because the conditions to win is not always killing everyone. You can win by doing things like breaking all the platforms in Skyloft
Great video. I personally loved Smash Tour from Wii U and miss all the cut modes from Ultimate (targets, events, and an actual boss battles mode). Though i will agree with the butchering off All-Star Mode: its a shame it got reduced to what it is and with no ending...makes it pointless imo. (At least you can see total number of KO's tho...:/)
I love the Spirit Battles and Classic Modes in Ultimate and they should bring those back in the next smash bros game but give descriptions for the spirits and every round in the classic modes. Also in the next Super Smash Bros game, they should bring back Smash Run from Super Smash Bros for 3DS and All-Star from Super Smash Bros for WiiU. And also for the next Super Smash Bros game, there should be a story mode that is like Brawl's Subspace Emissary complete with platformer levels, a plot, and cutscenes but with voice acting from the beginning of Ultimate's World of Light.
Trust me when I say I'm also really disappointed by All-Star's butchering in Ultimate. To play devils advocate though, I feel like the roster size got a bit too big for the mode. You would be going in to fight 89 different characters with limited healing in between. That just feels like way too much to go through so the Smash team condensed it into a Multi-Man. It's not an amazing (or good) fix but I can understand the reasoning behind it.
I think just slightly retooling it so you could save and quit in the Rest Area and maybe making it so that you don't have to run through it with every character to unlock everything could make it work better with the roster size
Any of these modes would be absolutely fair game for DLC. And wouldn't it be amazing if they offered a huge DLC pack that included trophies? Even if it was just to incentivize these modes.
I have an idea for somewhat of a compromise between Melee and Brawl's target test. You could still have character specific stages, but some characters that have similar movesets would share a stage. For instance, Mario, Luigi, and Dr Mario could share a stage. Marth, Lucina, Roy, and Chrom could be another. Link, Toon Link, Young Link. It wouldn't have to just be characters from the same series either. You could do something like Kirby and Jigglypuff sharing a stage. Or Banjo and Duck Hunt. They could probably trim this down to about 30-40 stages total, which would still be a lot but definitely less than over 80.
People meme about coin battle, but honestly the one that really nobody ever mentions is Bonus Battles. I honestly loved playing matches in Melee and seeing who got things like All in One, Lost Luggage or Whipping Boy.
The biggest thing missing from Ultimate’s classic mode is a (good ) bonus game. With individualized routes already introduced in ultimate, I think having an individualized Target test in the bonus game slot would make the mode truly amazing!
I would also probably have one generic bonus stage to balance it all out. I would probably include wither race to the finish from Melee, the bonus game from Ultimate, home-run contest with up to 3 collectable spirits based on distance (which in turn is determined by the character being played), a sub-boss like Metal Mario or Giant DK. All in all, classic modes would follow the pattern: Battle-Battle-Battle-Customized Target Test-Battle-Battle-Battle-Melee Race to the Finish-Boss
I seriously would pay like $30 just to have Smash Run in Ultimate as DLC. That mode was so fun and I hate that it is locked to the 3DS. (Not even the Wii U has it...) (btw I haven't watched the video yet he may or may not have mentioned this idk)
Mode idea: Return to Light Its like Crazy Orders but with spirit battles instead, and with some bosses mixed in too, and maybe stat boosts you could get, heck maybe it has a unique final boss or smth
Now that I think about it, you didn't mention those weird timed demos in Brawl of retro games called "Masterpieces". I don't really even know if they count as a different mode, as it is pretty much just a whole new game, and they weren't necessarily amazing due to their timed nature, but they were kind of nice in a "celebrating game history" kind of way, like a museum exhibit almost, somewhat of the same appeal of trophies.
Hey odyssey central the ground in the super Mario Bros. 3 Castle night theme are the bricks that Bowser ground pounds on in smb3. For useless facts #4.
Target Practice is the proof that Smash Bros is mean to be a technical fighting game. It shows how to play a character and their move set to its full potential. Subspace Emissary exploit what the game is: a cross-over fighting game. That's the reason why the game is memorable.
Mei, i didn't dislike the street smash mode, in fact i kinda liked it & played through it in practice battles (i prefered it's single player) quite a bit, but i don't like majorly like, i don't need this mode to return, i don't miss it at all, but it was an ok mode & kinda liked playing through it in smash for 3DS

My ideal story mode would have the player traveling between worlds of characters and battles/bosses based off of those games specifically.
Let’s go new video just when I needed bored on a car ride
What surprised me somewhat is that Ultimate already had the ground work for some other alternate modes. You can play as Master Hand for one battle in World of Light, why isn't that some form of unlockable mode such as a Mob Smash alternative or even a special Versus option? As much as I don't like the gimmicky special bosses, why aren't there Boss challenge special modes? While it would take more work, did anyone ever consider letting players create Spirit Battle-type scenarios to challenge, or a method of tackling randomly created scenarios?
I hope Nintendo puts the modes back in!
Subspace Emissary is the kind of stuff that should be it's own game, not a side mode of a multiplayer game.
About All Star: that mode should've been added as a bonus for the people that got all DLC characters.
Massive W for 100k, I’ve been following your channel for a while now, and I can say you definitely deserve it
About break the targets, to me, it's basically the combo trials from traditional fighters since they teach you things about the character while being it's own challenge, there are fighters with over 40 characters with several combo trials for each so I don't think just having a break the targets stage per character is that crazy
Etc.)
average all star mode fan: 🤓
average master/crazy orders enjoyer: 😎
I loved the world tour. Me and my brother has so much fun playing and trying to get our main
Smash Tour was fire.
I kinda wish they could bring back Boss Battles too, but the only thing close to that is Sephiroth’s Classic Mode
XD (though it definitely suffered from a lack of options, including computer difficulty settings, available matches, final match options...)
I think Brawl's Targets is the second best outcome, and the best realistic one.
You can win by doing things like breaking all the platforms in Skyloft
with the amount of bosses in this game it's a crime that Boss Battles wasn't brought back
Great video.
Congratulations on 100k! I’m excited for Ranking all moons in Super Mario Odyssey!
This also makes me think: what if SSBU was on Steam? Can you imagine the mod support this game would get?
People meme about coin battle, but honestly the one that really nobody ever mentions is Bonus Battles. I honestly loved playing matches in Melee and seeing who got things like All in One, Lost Luggage or Whipping Boy.
I miss Target Test like it was in 64 and Melee a lot. Every stage felt catered to a specific character.
There should be a target test per series, and alignment. That way Ganondorf has a unique one, while all the links and zeldas share one.
All in all, classic modes would follow the pattern:
Battle-Battle-Battle-Customized Target Test-Battle-Battle-Battle-Melee Race to the Finish-Boss
1:22 Okay, that _Angry Birds_ joke was 🔥
I would like the return of smash tour but make it so there is a fight after every turn and the final battle is a stock battle
I seriously would pay like $30 just to have Smash Run in Ultimate as DLC. That mode was so fun and I hate that it is locked to the 3DS. (Not even the Wii U has it...)
(btw I haven't watched the video yet he may or may not have mentioned this idk)
i love your videos so much and have been with you science 10 k subs. i can not wait to see this channels future
Other modes that were left out are
Coin Battles
Boss Battles (Boss Battles is technically in the game)
Masterpieces
Hear me out, Target test could have light weight, heavy weight and middle weight versions of the stage
Smash Run is the reason to own Super Smash Bros for 3DS
Mode idea: Return to Light
Its like Crazy Orders but with spirit battles instead, and with some bosses mixed in too, and maybe stat boosts you could get, heck maybe it has a unique final boss or smth
8:16
Congrats on doing that challenge!
Congrats one 100k, good luck editing that moon list lol
Hey odyssey central the ground in the super Mario Bros. 3 Castle night theme are the bricks that Bowser ground pounds on in smb3. For useless facts #4.
Thanks for this incredible upload, on my Birthday, No Less!
Happy birthday‼️‼️‼️
@@Odyssey_Central Thanks!
13:59 Hence why All-Star mode received an overhaul
So glad you made this
Congrats again on 100k :)
Great video, but I haber yo say trophie tour has always been muy favourite mode and mario party 10 my second favourite Mario party game(after 8)
What we need in ultimate: tp and oot link
They probably will relaunch Ultimate in the next console and add the missing stages and some of these modes
I wish the brought back the 3d mode it was a blast
I can't believe Mr. Odyssey Central forgot about Masterpieces and Chronicle, how dare you
Target Practice is the proof that Smash Bros is mean to be a technical fighting game. It shows how to play a character and their move set to its full potential.
Subspace Emissary exploit what the game is: a cross-over fighting game. That's the reason why the game is memorable.
I loved street smash
CONGRATZ for 101k
just watching odyssey central as you do and I get a new video
coincidance?
Guys we need to get him to 200k before the moon ranking comes go go go!
Smash Run>Smash Tour
One advantage that the 3DS version has over the Wii U version
Target practice needs like classes for it’s stages so for example heavy weight class has 5 stages light class 5 stages medium class 5 stages ex
Well that got me laughing the Angry Birds rip off that is Target blast
You forgot Race to the Finish which hasn't been in the series since Melee and Boss Battles from Brawl
3:50 hey I saw the nil flex… you tried to sneak that one in >:)
Oddesey Central you did forget 1 mode that appeared in brawl, and that mode was boss battles.
3:54
Which Little Mac: regular Little Mac or Peanut Little Mac?
I think the spirits would have had a better reputation if they were in a mode a la endless mode from SMM2, rather than a story mode!
The story mode he wants is just the plot of lego marvel super heroes 2
If the next smash game doesn't outdo subspace from brawl it's a waste of time imo
10:11 I like that one a bit
Great video!
When are you going to rank all final smashes
