Use a canola oil. They work perfect. I season at the beginning of each grill season after a thorough cleaning. Thanks for the comment! Much appreciated.
Ive repaired my 8 year old 3 burner multiple times and its on its last leg.. Got this on clearance for $112 at lowes. What a fking steap. Mine is a 5 burner with side burner.. Cant wait to do my 1st cook after 1st burn
Thank you for the question. If you don't plan on grilling during the winter months I would suggest a decent cleaning and oil to prevent rust. Once spring hits I would do a thorough clean and seasoning to get it ready for grilling season.
Great video!! Does this type of seasoning apply to all propane BBQ Grill like a Weber grill? As a 1st time owner, what else is needed, do i wash the grill grates 1st before seasoning with vegetable oil? By the way, whats a crisco? is that some kind of margarine? thanks
Yes, this procedure will work for all types of gas grills. You could wash the grates if you noticed anything excessive but the first burn in will remove machining and processing oils. Crisco is an all-vegetable shortening.
I just purchased a gas my first Char-Broil grill, it has porcelain coated grill grates. I'm not sure if I need to season them or not, I'm thinking about doing it anyways. I did have one question, I was thinking about lining the bottom with aluminum foil and poke a hole where the drip container is. What are your thoughts on that?
Good question. The porcelain coated grates don't benefit greatly from the initial seasoning but the process does make sure any impurities in the coating process are removed which is very beneficial. As for the aluminum foil it is a very good idea. Just be prepared to make frequent changes. Thanks for the questions and best of luck enjoying your new grill.
Alison, Thank you. The griddle plate came with the Char-Broil grill I had prior to this one. It can be ordered on their website. It is part # G533-0024-W1
That depends on how much you grill on it. I clean the grates while they are hot after each use. The bottom of my grill pulls out so I can clean it. I do that every 2-3 weeks. The every spring before grilling season really kicks in I give it the thorough cleaning and re-season it. I hope that helps.
After each use, do you burn off the grates or wash them with soap and water? How often do you re-season them with cooking oil or crisco? Do you put that on them prior to each use?
Good questions. After each time you grill, clean the grates with a scrapper while the grates are still hot. That keeps what you just grilled off of the grates but the oils still remain. I will also do a deep clean in the fall after the busy grilling time is over and then I will season them again. I hope that helps!
Not at all. Any seasoning whether a cast iron skillet, griddle or grill will take oil. You just don't want to pour oil on an open flame. Oil first then flame.
@@bucknutzbackyardbbq8688 i was just worried about putting oil where the flames come out at like the burners.. I didn't want any grease fires or explosions.. I have the OK Joe coal and gas combo
@@92greenebeen I understand your concern. You are simply wiping down the area. You can give it a few minutes if you like before firing it up. You will get a little burn off flame but nothing of consequence. Good luck and let me know how it goes.
If you keep up basic cleaning during the year I would suggest doing this annually. Your cooking will keep the seasoning on the grates and that is better than the oils used during the initial burn in. Great question.
I use the griddle mostly for vegetables. Asparagus is my go-to. I also use it as a warmer plate for BBQ sauce or any other sauce I need to use while grilling.
It is usually one of two things. The first can be a leak in your hose. Try soapy water on the hose while it is open to see if you have any bubbles indicating a leak. If that isn't it it might be in the regulator. Turn everything off and then disconnect the regulator from the propane tank. Wait a minute or two and reconnect it. Open the tank valve first and then the burners and fire it up. If you shut things off in the reverse order sometimes this can happen. Let me know if this helped and good luck.
When you turn on the burners you will hear the propane jetting out. When you hit the igniter switch another sound as the flames take over the tubes. after that you will hear a little crackle as the flames come out of the tubes. All of these are normal sounds you will encounter. Enjoy your propane grill.

You crank up all the burners max heat and burn in for 35 minutes, what was the hottest temp you were able achieve?
Chris, I honestly don't remember. I believe it was over 500

So do we need to do this with the infrared charbroil?
Yes. The emmiter plates need to be seasoned as well.

It has a high smoke point to it would be a good option.

No. That is once or twice a year.
