    We had a lot of requests on the Flick Serve Return so we made this tutorial on how execute this shot with various focus points.
    There are of course always different approaches to different situations so it's important we understand the benefits of every move we do.

    Great video! How about a video on how both partners should position themselves on the court when receiving a serve? I noticed in most international tournaments, that the other partner on the receiving team is positioned at the center of the court (not on the opposite box), while the one receiving the actual serve is near the net.

    Nice video! As a female mixed doubles player I get the flick serve a lot as women tend to have a harder time returning it. So I practice a lot with my coach, but always good to watch videos and hear from other coaches as well. (Also I train and play in China where I do everything in Chinese, but of course English is much easier for me to understand! haha. So thanks for doing these in English! :P )

    Guys, a huge thank you for a great channel. I think I've watched almost all of the single videos on this channel along with technique ones and they are amazing. Keep up the great work. Have you considered making a video on general strategy in singles (and doubles)? I think a lot of low level players like me would be interested in how to approach the tactical aspect of the game from the very basics and I cant find quality content like that you on youtube.For example, what is your main goal when returning a serve? If you hit a longer shot, what is your aim of that shot? If you make a short one, what position does that put you into? Just the basics in that aspect, I think it would help a lot of people improve.
    Keep up the great work guys! Peace

    As I get older, I shift weight and push back with both legs, the reverse of a sprinter in the blocks. At least I think it helps me. The flick works on any less mobile player and less quick receivers have to figure ways to manage the pressure. The tip on compact swing motion helps. Great demonstration.

    Of course a cross attack is always risky in doubles, but in flick serve i think it's not too bad. The reason is that the server might not be 100% ready for a defence because he/she will have to move a bit backwards so his/hers defence might be weak. What do you think about that?
    Great video as always, keep it up!!

    • @BadmintonFamly
      @BadmintonFamly  5 років тому +4

      You are absolutely correct. There is always exceptions and different approaches and benefits to everything we say. Question everything including what we say. So to shed some light on the situation you described, the partner would have to both cover the net and the straight flat smash return. Because it's a smash, the partner should stay in front but not to close to the T as he or she won't have to cover the close net but instead the flat straight return. It also depends on if the flick is close to the center or the sides. Many nuances and you brought up a relevant extension to this video. Thanks 🙏

    What about the foot position which one is better? To use like you or facing parallel with the serve line? Just ask cos my coach who was an int. top player in France say the parallel stand is better as it use more muscle for movement.

    • @BadmintonFamly
      @BadmintonFamly  5 років тому +1

      You mean the start position? As you can see Rasmus is standing with his front foot a bit parallel so he can push back and also go forward. If you are all parallel it will be tricky to move forward. Usually the low serve is used more so best to be most ready for that one. You can also see that Rasmus front foot is changing just a bit to parallel so he has more power pushing backwards. Hope it makes sence👍🏻 Regards Thomas

    • @BeniMano
      @BeniMano 5 років тому

      Badminton Famly Yes, I mean the start position. His suggestion with the parallel stance for forward movement was an appr. 90 degree heel turn with the forward motion. On backward movement he say more muscle is used with this stance and more power can be used. I was just looking for other opinion as I feel the right stance for me is somewhere in between. ☺️

    Thk

    • @BadmintonFamly
      @BadmintonFamly  5 років тому

      Hi Lorenzo, Thanks a lot for that very good question. Well she can do what ever she wants as long as her partner knows what she does and what he shall do next. I mean if the players know each other very well then they pretty much knows where the partners hits all the times, they can off course have some arrangements about the service situation to cover the court best possible way. But a standard return for the girl should be at the other girl at the other side of the net, in this way the counter attack will be more soft than the male player (usually :-)) If the flick serve is really good and the girl lands off balance a clear would be a nice move, but again placing that clear behind the other girl. Hope it helped a bit, Regards Thomas

    Only watching the video & learning the tricks isn't good enough !! you'll need a strong pair of legs to execute that shot ! See,the receiver has made one step behind with footwork and then the most of the space was covered by one big jump backwards.Now ppl know the technique,they need to know how to strengthen legs(gyms & exercise needed)! Hope to see a video on that too...

    • @BadmintonFamly
      @BadmintonFamly  5 років тому

      Focus on the movement and not power. Make sure you always relax. In time your timing with the shuttle will improve. This is a matter of repetition.

      Excellent question. Same question for right handed players (if flick to our BH). Please address.

    • @KeithHiew
      @KeithHiew 5 років тому +1

      Here Rasmus is showing the forehand side. Usually we use around the head shot for the backhand. For such close-to-the-tramline flick serves I’d stand further away from the T and further out wide, so I can utilize more of my forehand and less of the overhead. Maybe Rasmus or Thomas has more advice for this.

    • @BadmintonFamly
      @BadmintonFamly  5 років тому +1

      Thanks for that Keith. I agree. Also, the position of feet also have a factor here. If we position the back foot so it's closer to the backhand side, we will have an easier time using the around the head, because we don't have to turn our hips as much. The feet will now form a straight line from the start position towards the backhand side. Hope that clarified it. Let us know if you have any further questions 🙏
