This is one of the most lovable UCONN teams I have followed in a long time. They all seem so genuinely happy for each other when they do well and they really work hard and come together as a group and it shows by them playing with joy and passion even though things have been anything but easy for this team all season long. It's also nice (and good for women's college basketball) to see UCONN in a bit more of an underdog role than in previous years. Love how the game has been developing since UCONN's last title.
Still can't believe Aaliyah got an intentional foul for that but hey what a game by huskies! So proud of them and so thankful for Lou wish we could have her for atleast one more year ♥️
That dual intentional foul call was just bad! Those refs knew they were going to be lynched tying to leave the arena If they didn’t balance out the calls. The game and crowd were getting ugly in the 2nd quarter! I am super proud of those players keeping their composure. What an intense game to play in! The starting five we’re brilliant under that pressure! Lou and Aaliyah are just amazing! Props goes to Horston. Go Huskies!
26 Points by Lou, 25 by Aaliyah and 14!!! Assists by Nika. Need i say more?! Amazing performance by those three and especially from Lou - definitely her best game for the Huskies so far. Exciting game to watch with Tennessee being a worthy and dangerous opponent, they had some great plays and dominated the rebounding - in the paint is where Dorka really didnt look good tonight against the bigs from Tennessee: no blocks and only 6 rebounds. How come Tennessee isnt ranked?! They looked better than some ranked teams UCONN has beaten thi season. In conclusion the game became unnecessary physical because of the officials not doing a good job on their calls, at least they did bad calls for both teams.
How come Tennessee isn't ranked? Because of all the L's they took during the nonconference part of their schedule. It took 11 games for them to get above .500 and stay there.
@@alexroberson4454 still my question stands. Yes Tennessee had these losses but why? They looked strong like really strong and stronger than teams that are ranked and got beaten by the Huskies easier. Did they have a long struggle at the start of the season? Lots of injuries? Or was it just that they got extra hyped for this specific game because it was against UCONN? That is sometimes UCONNs "problem" as almost every team they face are extra hyped and extra tough playing UCONN because this is most likely their game of the year and the want to prove there best performance and i think this might be one factor why so many Huskies get injured in games over and over again.
There are so many things to like about Senechal's presence on the team, but what I like the most is how she has really grabbed hold of UConn's defensive principles.
Only bc the refs started calling BS fouls on UConn in the 2nd. UConn also had TOs but still refs inserted themselves and once they stopped that, UConn took control and never looked back. 😊
This was a great test for this team. UConn had to play a near perfect game and they did just that. With everything they’ve been through this year they’ve shown they can compete with the top teams still. That South Carolina game is the real test though.
As good as Paige is, I think she's missing out on a lot of development and experience. Just look at the incredible 3rd year leap taken by Aliyah, Nika and Aubrey and you can't help but wonder what Paige would be doing too.
I really have to agree with you. She spent all Summer getting stronger and putting on a few more pounds. Its almost scary to think what UCONN would be if Paige, Azzi and Ducharme were all healthy.
I don't think she will miss out at all - She's too good of a player . She works too hard on her skills. She will be better and stronger when she comes back..She already has the experience in playing big games. Sometimes these players PLAY too much basketball at times..Even Geno has made that statement after Ice got hurt..

@@bobbear4437 her hands have been alittle weak for some time now even before the splint. The splint has probably been amplifying it. But this has been the problem that I had with her even last year. Like I’ve been noticing that teams are attacking her when she gets the ball, like they are adamant about trying to take the ball from her.
I've been saying all season that South Caroline is the standard this year, and even better than last year. All of their players are very disciplined. They are just as fast and agile as Tenn. I'm afraid that Dorka will get pushed around and get into foul trouble. She doesn't adjust very well and didn't against Tenn.
Nika - 14 assists, the entire Lady Vols team - 12 assists. Perusing the Vol's forums is a riot, they couldn't possibly be more unified in their displeasure with the point guard play. Nika is my slime.
TN had some outstanding individual performances, but couldn't be consistent or shoot from outside much. The UConn defense was as good as it has been recently, but the matchups in size and speed were different from other recent games. When UConn was on offense there seemed to be a couple of very different things happening. In some cases it cut right through TN and in others it couldn't get a shot. I think Harper had TN change the way they were guarding (a great coaching quality) and they put a lot more pressure on the UConn guards or any ball-handler really to make it harder to run an offense focused on one or two key passes and then a shot or drive to basket. The amplified version of that was the press they did. Lou was great, but rebounding wasn't quite as good as other recent games. That may again be related to the height and mobility of the TN players. Refs were bad or inconsistent most of the way and we're lucky the game didn't turn violent.
TN rebounding was incredible! The ladies need to learn to box out more but luckily our scoring (MVP’s Lou and Aaliyah) came through big time! Go huskies!
Stats are funny things. At around 42:44, ESPN throws up stats showing a huge advantage for the Vols in off rebounds and second chance points. Tennessee lost by 17. Bill Russell once said that only one statistic matters - did you win, or not.
UCONN didn't turn it over as much this game... something TENN was hoping would help them out... but the opposite happened... UCONN had about half the turnovers TENN got. UCONN's higher shot made, better shot selection, and better range of scoring options kept the score steadily growing in their favor. TENN did an OK job on transition defense and an excellent job on defensive and offensive rebounding.. but they simply don't score at the same ratio as UCONN.
The game that is most concerning to me is the Georgetown game Feb 11. Not for basketball win or loss, but for the possibility of injury against that team. Georgetown really attempts to get real, real physical at every position. They are the kind of team that can hurt players, as we saw with Fudd.

They ran about 3 different offensive schemes. The first was terrible, but the other two were pretty good. UConn had their defense in good shape in the second half. The main thing TN did that is a bigger problem for UConn is pressure on the ball. With their tall guard they gave Nika trouble. She has to move the ball, so they can't trap her.
Not sure I understand Tennessees game. Drive drive drive to the basket take a terrible shot in double coverage and then hustle for the offensive rebound or hope for a foul. It seemed to work for the offensive rebounds but can you rely on that all the time. I understand they are athletic and tall and want to use that advantage but it was so predictable after a time. On defense they chose to play close and that worked many times in creating turnovers but then they would get juked and backdoored and gave up so many easy buckets because of it. I just don't see them making it far in the tournament with those strategies hoping they have the right refs every game.
