Is Tunisia losing its grip on democracy? - BBC Africa

- Опубліковано 8 жов 2024
- Tunisians are set to elect a new president on October 6th, but the arrest and disqualification of several political opponents of incumbent President Kais Saied have sparked concerns about the legitimacy of the election. In recent years, and especially over the past weeks, Saied has consolidated his hold on power, raising fears that the country could be heading towards its first undemocratic election since the Arab Spring.

tunisia is very important to the development of africa... may all tunisians find peace and happiness in the country love from angola
How is Tunisia important to the development of Africa? It's literally a vassal state to Algeria. Algeria gives them free oil and provides military protection. if anything Algeria is one million times more important to Africa than Tunisia
In what way?
we are fine just they (other countries) have lost their puppets , spies and thieves
They don't view their darker-skinned African neighbors in the same peaceful way. So I expect that their prejudiced behavior will only become worse now.

No we voted for the man who fought against corruption and foreign intervention ❤
He was the only president who fought against corruption and he succeeded, despite being tackled by the western media like BBC and SkyNews and France24, he won with a majority of vote and he managed to stabilize the country in all aspects in security and economy, he came into power in a very democratic way he won the election against 30 candidate 80% of these 30 candidates were using dirty money to affect the vote of the Tunisians citizens, and he still won against them by the majority of the vote. Still a lot of challenges ahead of Kais Saied but as a Tunisian citizen, I am proud of having him as a president. He did a very great job to the country and still a lot to come in the future we all understand the hate towards Tunisia and towards its president because of his opinion about the war in the Middle East and the genocide against the Palestinians and how the European countries and the US lobbies trying to control Tunisia for their benefits so they can implement their agenda in order to create chaos in Tunisia 🇹🇳
We are not losing our grip on democracy. We have already lost it.
What democracy? Western funny fake democracy? We don't want that shiii in our country

Tunisia’s Project 2025.
Not really project 2025 includs the treatment of all federal technical expertise as political hires. This didn't happen in Tunisia at no point. Technical expertise even back in the days of Ben Ali could face problems and be ignored in promotion, but they maintained some type of freedome. Back in the day my father was an engineer at a state owned company and managed to rise to the level he was answering directly to the CEO. Everybody in the company knew my father was opposition. This didn't change under kais.
@@mohamedbenhamida5652 you don't really see anything like Project 2025 in the Middle East unless it's territory controlled by some kind of terrorist organization

Tunisian Democracy won't die
Isn't democracy the right of the people to choose their leader ? well Tunisians want this men to lead their nation.
why didn't you mention that the constitution only changed after a referendum in which 94% was in favor of the changes proposed by kais said.
what happened in 2021 was demanded by the people since the parliament wasn't doing anything but fight among themselves and prevent the president from doing what's necessary to fight their corruption.

when you talk about votes only people who care about voting counts , no one prevented the others from voting against !
2.7 million (70%) voted for him to be presidents and 2.6m (94%) voted for the change 2.4m (90%) again voted for him to stay president , people who care about the country keep voting for him , others will only vote if they are paid.
anyway , my point was that the video portrayed the changes as a coup without mentioning the referendum which raises questions about what the BBC is trying to do here ...

Hmmm i wonder what newly discovered thing caught the attention of the Western world for them to care about Africa’s political stability…

Rumor has it that there has been, once, somewhere, a Muslim country which has managed to function as a democracy...
