  • Daniel Ling is a Business, Economics and Social Policy triple major with a minor in Sociology from Pearland, Texas, located just 20 minutes away from Rice University. His journey at Rice has been shaped by the university's culture, which emphasizes community, support, and collaboration.
Daniel's passion lies at the intersection of business and sustainability, particularly in the energy transition. Through the business program at Rice, he has been able to explore this interest deeply, supported by an exceptional faculty that's always willing to help students succeed. This supportive environment has enabled him to pursue unique opportunities, such as his involvement with the Rice New Energy Fund (RNEF). As the nation's first student-managed investment fund focused exclusively on the energy transition, the fund allows Daniel and his peers to research and invest in promising companies in the energy sector, combining financial modeling and qualitative research to make impactful decisions.
Beyond his academic and extracurricular pursuits, Daniel has discovered a lucrative passion in the world of sneaker reselling. What started as a hobby in high school and a way to earn some extra cash during the pandemic has blossomed into a significant business venture. By 2022, Daniel took his sneaker business seriously, achieving half a million in revenue in his first serious year and reaching a milestone of $2 million in revenue the following year. This venture has not only been financially rewarding but has also allowed him to become known in the sneaker world and connect with a network of like-minded individuals.
Reflecting on his journey, Daniel acknowledges that his experiences at Rice have opened him up to a diversity of experiences and people he might not have encountered otherwise. The university has instilled in him a valuable attitude towards life, one that he believes will continue to shape his future endeavors long after he leaves Rice.
