- In June 2022 I ride my 2021 Harley Davidson Pan America from Southern California along the Alaska Highway and up to Deadhorse (Prudhoe Bay) Alaska.

I’ve got a’21 PAS. A really fun bike! I will be watching for your future episodes.
amazing trip, so fun to watch! thank you for filming. this is inspirational for others to do trips like this! i dream someday i can do it
Thanks Eric, it was a dream of mine for years before I was finally able to do it. Keep on dreaming, you will get there one day.
Wow! Look’s like you had a great trip. 😊
I just don’t think I could sleep on the ground, No wonder you couldn’t sleep. 😊
Thanks Nancy, it was a trip of a lifetime.
Amazing solo trip, what backup plans did you have in case of a mechanical breakdown in the middle of nowhere? Did you have to deal with flats? You were chased by a wolf, I wonder how bicyclists deal with that out there. Did you book your stays ahead of time or checked in as you arrived?
Thanks IronHorseGladiator. I took my "Inreach" (Spot) device so that I could text someone in case of a breakdown, even in areas where there was no cellular service. I didn't have any flats. I put brand new tires on right before I left and had a tubless repair kit and compressor on my bike. I did get chased by a wolf. It was probably the most exciting incident of the trip. I stopped another solo motorcyclist shortly after to warn him the wolf was about 5 miles down the road, but he didn't speak English and I never got my message across. I think he spoke Hebrew. Someone on a bicycle would never get away from the wolf. I think the wolf sightings are very rare, and bear spray would be your only hope. I was booking the hotels as I went, but from Whitehorse on, the hotels where just about all booked up, so I called ahead and booked all my hotels through Alaska and back through Canada.
Great video I live in gatineau Quebec what tires do you have on your bike
Lance: I put Dunlop, Trail Max Mission tires on the bike right before I left. I got 12,000 miles out of them and recently replaced them with the same tire. In my opinion, they are one of the best 50/50 tires you can get. They performed well in all conditions.
Thank you for the reply. I enjoyed the videos. I'm working today I'm a crane operator there's time to watch UA-cam 😂
Great video. I am thinking about buying a Pan Am. Did you run into any mechanical issues with the Pan Am? I am having a lot of approach/avoidance issues because I have seen a lot of comments on UA-cam and the Pan America Forums about bike not starting, error codes, bike going into limp home mode, heat shield falling off, electrical problems, hose that is too close to the motor melting, navigation app not working, etc.
Adam: It performed really well on the Alaska trip. However I just got back from riding about 500 miles down into Baja and it died on me in Ensenada, Mexico on the way home. I think the alternator went out and caused my battery to drain. It's in the shop now, but they won't get to it until next week. Also, had some chain stretching issues. So yeah, I'm starting to wonder if I should stick it out or look at something else. So far, I'm going to stick with it. It's such a fun bike to ride.
@@rso1411 Thanks. I am vacillating between another GS, or the new Triumph Tiger 1200 or the Pan Am. Luckily I have time to do my research and decide. Thanks again for the feedback. Great videos by the way. I felt like I was riding along with you.
Run run run from this dumpster fire POS of a bike! Dump it like a bag of hot nickels asap!
@@dmac5497 I have pretty much come to that conclusion. My local Harley Dealer currently has 3 used Pan Americans on their floor that were traded in with between 900 and 1,500 miles on them. They have had several other used ones that they have resold already. There has to be some good reason all these people are trading in their bikes with so few miles.
@@Blakefan2520 I think the engine is pretty much bullet proof. The problems that I have had could happen to any bike. I think the thing that bothers most people are the electronic issues with the bike. Many have been fixed with software updates. I've enjoyed this bike for than any other that I have owned, so I will probably stick with it.
Did you need to re-flash after installing the Dunlops? The Harley Knoby's require it.
Yes, that is why I had them installed at the Harley dealer.
Going up in June. Which tires did you use?
Pete: I put the Dunlop Trail Max Mission tires on right before I left. They are one of the best 50/50 tires out there. I got 12,000 miles out of the rear tire and just replaced it with the same. I am still running the front tire. They perform well on the road and dirt/gravel roads. I haven't really tested them in off road.
@@rso1411 Thanks. I’m leaving from FL so I want something that can do most of the trip. I know I will need a change before I get back.
Which fuel bladder did you use?
Jeff: I used the Giant Loop Armadillo Bag. It's a good bag and worked great. I was just a little worried about the way it swells in heat and altitude (which is probably normal).
Any hic ups with the bike ? details?

If you decide on another bike, get a second generation Yamaha Super Tenere ES. 40,000km valve services, cheap maintenance and bullet proof reliability. I know someone with 300,000 miles on theirs and no issues. I have 53,000km on my 2 year old Tenere and I can only ride 6 months of the year cause of snow. No issues and never breaks down. Not as fancy or powerful as some of the other Adventure bikes out there however, mine will outhandle and out perform all of them when their broken down in the shop and I'm still riding 😁.
Ride safe and I hope all goes well fixing your bike
@@highmilagerider1154 Thanks, I've actually been looking at the Super Tenere. It is the second most reliable bike, right behind the Honda. Plus, I think it is a good looking bike.
Quit watching at “vaccination records”
