Indeed. Scott Stevens, Doug Gilmour, Scott Niedermayer, Dave Andreychuk, Martin Brodeur (who I actually got to meet by the way). That team WAS loaded and stacked with a bunch of great studs and Hall of Famers.
Lidstrom finished 2nd in the Norris voting to Rob Blake even though he had far better defensive numbers and led all D-men in points. Could easily have 9 or 10 if the voters weren’t so weird in the late 90ds
He was European and he finished his career with approximately half the head trauma Blake would(grit smh). These were legitimate factors with the voters during the 90s. Not sure when exactly it changed but I dont recall it being much of a factor at all a decade later when the Wings were back to play Crosby.
Awood, as always, thank you so very much for these videos. They are keeping my spirits high during all this covid nonsense and are definitely a welcomed distraction. I get so excited when I see the new vid notification and have some hockey to look forward to watching. Keep up the great work, my dood- it's greatly appreciated.
Man i hated NJ. Brodeur was admittedly great but Ozzy plain hulked out at the end of this one. And dang, that 2nd Lidstrom goal was like a clinic from the moment he retrieved the puck. Great game thanks a million awood.
He wasnt known as a fighter and no he didnt fight all the tough guys. he cheap shot all the tough guys from behind while they werent looking and when he did fight he got the snot beat out of him just like in this fight with McCarty. He was known for throwing big hits and again most of them were super dirty. Hes more of a "pest" or "agitator" who also just happened to be huge
When I see D-Mac in the thumbnail, I click instantly
12 HOF playing in this game. That Devils roster was loaded with big names too
Let's not forget Shanahan began his career as a Devil. He once played with the Marauder of Motor City, Claude Lemieux.

The quality of this video is pretty amazing actually
Doug Brown scoring on one knee, His signature shot!

He was probably too European for the Norris back then.
They didn't want a European passing up Orr!

Darren McCarty The Enforcer
#LGRW
(RIP GOAT Mr Hockey and Budd Lynch)
Doug Brown was the consumate role player. He'd sit out a few games, and seemed to always score when he was put back in. Had some big goals as a Wing.
Back when hockey was awesome.
The Red Wings were still entertaining, the rest of the league was not at this point.
Before the salary CAP in 2009!
The good old days when the players played with intensity, heart, and passion. Watching what bettman has done to the NHL is extremely sad.
The NHL like every other sport got corrupted by $$$$$ and got way too political,
14:26 - New Jersey hat thrown on the ice for Doug Brown! haha
man got the same feeling when i was watching this game in real time! thanks awood for posting these games! 🤗👍
I Love These. Thanks for posting!!
DOUGIE!! What a Boston beauty
Get video, great memories. Love it! Keep them coming dude!
This was a random game in December but it felt like a playoff game. Man have times changed in the NHL.
Holy hell what a game
Bud lynch goodie a bunch of fights great win for the boys . Gotta love Mickey Redmond
what a game, all around
I believe Detroit should have retired #14. Shanny spent about 10 great years, 3 Stanley Cups. Without him, i don't believe we win back to back cups.
I am not sure I agree, but I definitely do not disagree.
3:08 'Bad to the Bone' playing while McCarty and Shanny fought NJ seemed so perfect.

Lidstrom with the bullets. Never gets old
Doug Brown played so well with the Russians, he once skated in warm ups with the name Brownov on his sweater...
Jesus Gordies got some mitts for hands
4:08; A little "Look Sharp March" from Mickey Redmond.
Doug Brown with a hat-trick!!! :-)
Off Brodeur no less!
what a great game! thx woody
Please take me back to that time.
hearing Bud Lynch's voice.... get me some tissues
What a game
I think this was the only hat trick Doug Brown ever got in his career. Well, he definitely had one to remember, and against his former team as well!
Off course stevens isnt a fighter. He was just king of the cheap shots
Где Фетисов и Федоров ?
Oliwa didn't want any of that smoke
Lapointe. "I can bench over 400 pounds" Also Lapointe. "I only fight lesser middleweights and non fighters."
JLA crowds > LCA crowds... by far!
2 wagons
Osgood got hit by Murphy at the end.
Whats with Red wingg fans always coming and going during play?
“Steven’s, who’s not known as a fighter “. What? He was one of the toughest guys of his era! Fought all the tough guys. Garbage comment.
Stevens lost every fight he fought.

If not for Brodeur this game would have been 10-4
Odelein was worthless
