Why Do Rabbits Thump Their Feet?

- Rabbits are some of the cutest animals that you can have as pets. They are very quiet creatures that have evolved to be extremely observant of their surroundings, so if you can’t see them, you probably wouldn’t notice a rabbit sitting between your feet. Rabbits usually don’t use sound to communicate with each other, with the exception of grunting or thumping every once in a while. Thumping is a curious rabbit behavior that is usually not well understood by people.

We were woken up at 5am from our rabbit thumping in his hutch. He continued thumping every 10 - 15 seconds. When I went out to investigate it became very clear why.
There was a hooded man in dark clothes snooping around the back gardens on our street.
I was so proud of our rabbit for warning us. 🙂
Rabbit went like "ayo there's something wrong in here"
Why do rabbits thump their feet?
Simple: because they grumpy
Lol ! Yeh mostly they let you know they not happy. Rabbitude
Like, why do cats sleep.
@@binkybunnysway943 😂😂😂 I ❤️that “Rabbitude”👍🏽🐰👍🏽
@@allimimi lol gota love a bit of rabbitude my bunny got lots of it but he's loving aswell
My rabbit thumps sometimes when he hears dogs barking in the neighborhood, so I just start to pet him to calm him down.
Waaoh, didn't know that, my rabbit does that then goes hiding under my bed

😂 he’s alerting other bunnies of danger
"Rabbits may stand on their hind feet like a prairie dog."
That's a meerkat. Also a good example.
They also thump when they're mad🐇💖
@@pokemall5136 I’m going to have to disagree my bunny grunts at me whenever I move his hay around
Yup my rabbit was mad cuz I cleaned his cage.,
@@br7418😂😂😂 he’s mad that you’re moving his hay. He prefers the original spot.
"When the teacher says the essay must be 5,000 words long."
They’re saying: danger, danger, run you fools!
the other rabbits:already gone and left him behind
That Prairie Dog sure looks a lot like a Meerkat :)
Ye, just shows how stupid these videos are.
My rabbit recently had 6 kits. She would feed them milk twice a day. After a few weeks when the kits started walking, playing around, being independent, she would still feed them milk. So she would thump her hind legs to call the kits to her for feeding.
Interesting! I haven't heard that one before but it makes sense. Thanks for the info.
mine thumps for food. He thumped one day as he didnt get access to our bedroom, and he kept thumping to wake me up for his breakfast. Once im out and food was on his plate, thumping was gone.
My bun sometimes thumps if he’s mad at me but for most part he’s been raised around dogs so has no fear. He has free range of both my house n cabin. As long as he gets his way he dosnt give a shit about anything
"as long he gets his own way he doesn't give a shit about anything"
I can completely relate. I'm the same 🤪
Who is this guy? The bunny whisperer? 😂😂😂
The shadows of us walking by in the middle of the night make her stand up tall and thump. She runs when we get closer. Then we sing to her and she comes back out a little less nervous.
The music’s so intense that I even thumped . . .
Ours is s domestic rabbit . Today is unusual thumping by him … he seems scared and not interested to play with us … just wants to be left alone but keeps thumping … so we decided to let him loose in house under our supervision until he feels comfortable to go back in his hutch …. He is way more sleepy whole day today so I think he is not feeling well like May be like under the weather ….
I would definitely say Your Bunny wasn't feeling well
My bunny thumps both her hind legs when she gets a treat . She also thumps both her hind legs first thing in the morning when she greets me. She thumps just one hind leg when she is displeased! No one else has ever there
My rabbit started to thump last week and he always thump after I let him play in the living room. Then he likes to nip me and my clothes. It hurts and I am not sure what he wants
Often times it's when they feel threatened.. Do you have any other pets or could he be getting nervous? It may also be a sign of him trying to show his dominance.
Our bun also nips at the most random times... Usually while being pet or asking for pets😩 she also thumps all the time now, when she's angry, scared, if we're making to much noise, when the wind is high, etc
In my experience my bunny does this when he wants more attention or play and he always nose bumps nose bumps then if I still don't pay attention he will thump or nip. A nip very different to a bite though but even nips hurt!
Is he neutered? That sounds like it could be hormonal.
@@JennaH07 u saying ur bunny is horny?
Why my rabbit thumps after receiving food she really likes?
I had taken a nap on the floor and my bunny woke me up by thumping the floor at my head. It was quite loud. His eyes were big so I just gave him some space. Not sure what caused this??
My rabbit thumps because he is territorial!
So adorable but very complex pet
Hi I have 4 rescued rabbits I keep them in a “little playboy Manson” lol and bring them inside also. They are all pretty tame but thump sometimes. We do have cats and can see through windows etc but don’t terrorise them. I feed them all necessary foods and even at the moment they aren’t really eating it weird cause they love their kale carrots bananas thyme parsley etc
I have 2 but never hear them thump until awhile ago when someone fowls were under their cage & the female started thumping but it didn't last for very long... It's unusual tho bcuz the fowls live in the yard & normally goes down by the cage...
You better believe I thump!
Pet Rabbits: “What makes your rabbits thump? 😄”
.......Affection
I just came from a bunny thumping vid and a comment suggested the owner to give it more affection.
I had a bunny some yrs ago & the guy I was seeing bought it from some breeders. Idk what it was like for him growing up but I know he was skittish. He'd always go hiding under the bed & I had to put food down there bc he'd always put himself in a position where I couldn't reach him. Then he'd thump & it'd just be like boy, idk what you want! I had him sitting on my chest 1 day & I really thought I was making progress. He peed and pooped on me but at least he gave me kisses. First time I ever realized how small their poops r
Male Rabbit thumps to communicate its urge to mate.
I heard my bunny thumping only one time when there was a cat outside the door
Mine was thumping his little feet and starring off in the distance at my wall
Because this beat is *BANGIN*

Great video. Cleared all my doubts.
Rabbits are one of the most successful animals of their species? That statement makes no sense.
Bunnies are so delicate
I know this will sound crazy, but my bunny sounds like she is trying to talk, and loud she gets mad if I wake up late she always scolding me and then thumps her feet, ok I took her to get fix, now who do you know that wake up from major surgery and get mad at the doctor and nurses, I ask is she ok, and the doctor said she seen to be ok, cause she got mad at everybody
My rabbit is an attention seeker, he thumps when we ignore him
She doesn't like to be picked up.
My bunny thumped his feet for the first time today. I think it was because my guinea pigs were making a lot of noise.
But my pet bunny when I gave her a tunnel where she can play she thumps and then she starts playing all day with it
Polo
Because they want to be petted
They thump when they are angry
We have two cats and two dogs it’s probably why my rabbit scared
So! You produce a video about "Why Do Rabbits Thump Their Feet?" YET NEVER ONCE SHOW A RABBIT ACTUALLY THUMPING. You only talk about it. SERIOUSLY?! That was 5 minutes I'll never get back!
Rabbits 🐇 🐰 have lovely 😻 🥰 ☺️ fur. Most rabbits 🐇 🐰 don’t like 👍 ❤️ being picked up ⬆️ 🆙 🔝. Most rabbits 🐰 🐇 and bunnies 🐰 are coloured black ⬛️ , brown 🟫 , grey ⬜️ , orange 🟧 and finally white ⚪️. Rabbits 🐇 🐰 have been eaten by snakes 🐍 in the past is because the snakes 🐍 are preying for food 🍱 🥘 🍲. Rabbits 🐰 🐇 are as sweet 🍬 as cats 🐈⬛ 🐈 🐱. Rabbits 🐇 🐰 can 👌 feel angry 😤 😡 😠. Dogs 🐕 🐶 chase after rabbits 🐇 🐰. 👍
Maybe the rabbit thumps because the wire floor in cages hurts their feet. Or they are angry at being picked up. This video did not help me in understanding more about thumping. Just made me angry at the treatment of the rabbits and now I am thumping. Try House Rabbit Society for better answers.
They thump to talk to you.
That's what my girl does
I agree my female rabbit just started doing that when I let her stretch her legs out I don’t think she was upset I think she was was just new to her environment tbh
Fun fact: they can screech very loudly when in pain
Thats not fun
@@kapibarra134 I support you.
The music is intense. Lol. Makes me want to thump too.
I searched this video because my bunny stomp so loud. I think she's jealous 😂.
I have two rabbits, 1 male and 1 female. They were separated since after they turned 3 months. Now they are about 10 months and we tried to mix them together but the male rabbit started thomping and the female started to look scared and made unfamiliar sound. So i separated them again. Please advise. Thank you.
Keep trying. It's common for rabbits to be aggressive, thump, Chase, and hump to establish who's going to be dominant. Only once this is established can they then begin to bond. Don't let them hurt each other. If it goes too far or too long seperate them by placing a dust pan between them and try again a few minutes later. Also, introduce them somewhere unfamiliar. Rabbits are territorial. So they must be introduced in neutral territory that neither bun has claimed.
@@triciasteadmon1505 thank you so much! I will try
I had the same problem after I had them fix, but she would get so mad at him, so I took apart the cage I had and made a fence straight the middle and put a baby gate right across the front one rabbit on each side, so they can interact thru wirer without a problem, now it is hard to believe, he would put his head under her chin or her head under his chin, and that is the only way they sleep
@@francisgill1929 thanks for sharing this! Glad to know that your rabbits love each other now. Hehe. I also want to share that i let my rabbit lose for a couple of minutes one day and she got pregnant without us knowing so we were shookt when we saw her giving birth to 9 rabbits.. haha that was fast!!!
Are they neutered
My rabbits thump when I try to clip their nails. I’m scared to do it but I have to because they have really long nails.
So if anyone had any advice please help me. This is my first time having bunnies and I feel like I’m neglecting them
Take them to a groomer if you can afford it.
If you insist on doing it yourself, get in touch with a professional or forum that has other bunny owners and get some advice there. UA-cam isn't a great place to get specific info because there's so much bull shit you have to filter out.
@@StandTallTx hey thanks a lot for the advice.I will use it

Deffo thump for many reasons. Sometimes my bun thumps before he had a seizure as he is epileptic. Other times he thinks just cos he can then licks me after lol
Awwww, how do you deal with the epilepsy? Is bun on medication for this?
My rabbit doesn't thump. My rabbit doesn't feel happiness or sadness. Wanna know why? It never existed in the 1st place. I am just trying to answer your question. This video shows that the channel "Pet Rabbits" is underrated.
Overproduced music. And there's really no need for the captions when the speaker's voice is so clear.
