    Our response to KTM’s demo mode is an interesting look into how much we value physical objects over intellectual property. We would have no problem paying the additional $800 if it included some kind of hardware install, but the fact that it’s simply a software change makes it feel not as “real” and therefore not as valuable to us. This is probably also why people who would never steal a physical object from a store would have no problem stealing a movie or a song online.

      Very good point!! I agree, I view the technology as requiring a lot of research, design and marketing so my brain sees it as paying for different things. I also feel like the cost of the hardware is almost nothing it’s much heavier leaning on all the tech side for what you get!! Great conversation though and loving hearing peoples perspectives!! The song/movie comparison is 💯

    KTM reliability - agree 100% with your comments. Unfortunately the internet perception matters, and where it affects owners is in resale.

      Very true!! I think because it’s such a popular brand and most people want their bikes it’s a lot more known by everyone over say a brand like Aprilia that has a bad wrap as well on the Tuareg 660 but because they’re so much smaller maybe the conversation is quieter?? Good food for thought!!

    KTM should not have said anything about the demo mode. The dealer could have mentioned to a potential buyer :" hey we can give you a demo mode if you want." and i believe alot of ppl would have been ok with it. IMO they should make quickshifter, MSR and cruise control standart and just offer the rally mode.

    Having had two Suzuki DL 1000/1050 Vstroms with over 140,000 miles on both of them, then switched to Kawasaki‘s Verys LT 1000 with 90,000 miles on it until it got ran over by a car… Three months ago I bought a KTM 890 Adventure Standard at the 400 mile mark the countershaft sprocket seal blew out, replaced by dealer under warranty. At the 700 mile mark, the bike shut off and would not restart until I got it towed home. Then it started all on its own again. Two days ago while riding, the TFT screen blanked out on me twice. I had to pull over on the side of the road both times recycle the key to get the TFT screen to come on. All the Japanese bikes I have owned were rock solid machines. My recent purchase of this KTM has really left me wondering if I chose wisely my style riding is long distance riding, and I’m wondering if this KTM is gonna leave me stranded on the road as it has already. It’s a shame we pay this kind of money for a premium motorcycle and it has all these issues. 🤔🤔🤔

    Great review on KTM! I’m on my first one, 2023, 390 adventure. I’ve been riding for 57 years., and I’ve had many different bikes. As you stated, they all have their quirks and issues.
    A lot of flack out there on 390. I really like mine., I’ve only got about 4000 miles on it, And for the money, it’s fantastic! The only complaints I have, and everybody who owns one has it seems, is the odd flame out. I think the metal used for the hardware is, I’ll say pretty soft… but overall, a great little bike, handles great. I see people complain about its off-road prowess, And if you push it on a single track, it’s shortcomings come to for. But it’s not what the bike is really designed for, it’s for newer riders, or old buzzards like me, who don’t wanna fight the weight anymore…

    I agree with the additional fee for software features. And most things are just pure software things. Its not like other OEM that include all hardware but disable them if you dont pay for it. Like heated seats in BMW. I would be against this if they sell you the extra hardware like heated seats or the Radar (1290 SAS) and have them disabled.
    The tech-pack on KTM is mostly just software. And if you dont need them you can safe the money.

      Love to hear your thoughts, thank you for the comment!! I could be way off but I feel like the cost of the hardware is soooo small and so I view it more as paying for a Motorcycle, the ‘physical’ item and then paying for the ‘app’ or ‘technology’ like I would an app on my phone or something. Both the physical & technological require research, design, building and selling. I’m at least glad I get a choice over them just charging me that much more!!

    While living in SoCA I rode 750/1100cc sport bikes from Honda, Suzuki, and Yamaha, never had any issues with any of them. After moving to remote CO I only ride KTM. My 2017 KTM 1090R and 2023 KYM 350 EXC-F enable me to ride any off-road trail desired. But I would never consider buying any new 790/890/1290 with all the complex electronics. Now the new KTM enduros have a new computer mounted under the seat that completely controls everything. Similat to the reported 890 starting issues, I am sure we will be hearing about these problems on their new 2024 enduro models. Simplicity=reliability Complexity=unreliability. Choose what works best for you.

    I think a lot of issues are hit and miss. I work in assembly in the auto industry. There are days when you have someone filling in for another employee, and they have problems while doing the job. There are people training on new jobs and they forget to do something in the job process. Quality does not catch everything. Most of the time, everything is done right. There is a warranty for those reasons. I also don't believe that there is anything that you race and push to the limits without problems. Some people will push these bikes to the max, and that results in things failing. Then there are people who just ride the bike and do light trails. So some will have 0 issues, and some people will have all kinds of things go wrong, and if there is one thing i know about racing, things tend to go wrong at some point!

      If it comes with the bike everyone HAS to pay for it if they want it or not. Despite the perception Software and R&D does cost Money. Of cause most things dont seem like much but it adds up and I much rather have the choice to get extra software that have it forced on me. It like if they charge everyone for golden license plate holder even tho you dont need it, it just "might" look cool to some.

    All bikes do have issues. Not all manufacturers/dealers have the same attitude about warranty claims. I disagree about the bait and switch demo mode. KTM could include all of the features and price it accordingly. After 1200 miles, you can have the dealer shut off the features that you don't want for a credit on KTM accessories or service. This is about deceptive pricing.

    I can deal with the little things like immobiliser issues ect, however the camshaft chewing itself up after 8500miles is completely unacceptable. It would be less of a burn if ktm would recall or at least pay for the fix under goodwill. But for me it has cost me £3.8k to rebuild the motor. Only for me to have to hope that it does not happen again. I cannot afford to pay for the entire cost of this bike every 20.000 miles.

    • @MaxBetMotors
      @MaxBetMotors  2 місяці тому +1

      So sorry you've had to deal with that, sucks more than most people realize!! When the engine blew up on the Desert X even with them covering it but not having a bike for a few months is bad. I'm speaking more to the smaller niggles that don't effect much but people get so wound up about. Sadly all bikes have issues and big ones can really suck!!

  • @rileyallcorn9782
    @rileyallcorn9782 3 місяці тому

    The problem with the tech pack is that you're already paying for the features. The quick shifter, for example is already installed. You are having to pay for a second time to use it. They would not spend the money on the hardware and not factor it into the price. So you're just paying 800 for the rights to use the software

    • @MaxBetMotors
      @MaxBetMotors  3 місяці тому +1

      Yah, I think it'd just be a higher cost all around then ... the hardware aspect I would think it's super cheap - I'm not sure what it cost them to create the technology for the tech pack? Thanks for the comment!! I enjoy seeing everyone's prospective!!

  • @justmyself1000

    The whole software features behind a paywall is bloodsucking. All because Tesla, GM or whoever does it....still doesn't make it okay for a couple of lines of software code. We need to get away from the false thinking that it's okay for one to do something because another does something. It's still not okay, and one should have higher expectations. That's all it is on the KTMs. I can't stand that Tesla uses this business model and one of the biggest reasons I don't drive one right now. (Notice I said, "Don't drive one" instead of saying "Don't own one." Because with a Tesla....one doesn't really own it. It only encourages hackers. This should NOT be acceptable. And if one wants to erroneously compare something like GM or other manufacturer having their own driving systems....well their systems are heavily proprietary and just plain stink. I had a vehicle in which one could not upgrade the crappy stereo because car features were built in to the stereo. If one wanted better audio with more features and wanting to upgrade to aftermarket stereo....then one would have to spend ridiculous amount of monies to accomplish this by having the oem stereo plus an aftermarket....and using it would be awkward. None of this should be acceptable for the amount of monies already spent. The price one pays for motorcycles now should be the price of a car. And to kind of get off-topic...I wish KTM would focus more on fulfilling backorder parts instead of finding ways to bloodsuck.

    • @MaxBetMotors

      Fascinating stuff for sure!! This whole new world of this much tech is leading to so many of the things you are eluding to with the cars and such ... I don't claim to know the time/cost associated with what the tech pack created but I do like not having to pay for things I don't use, that's where my frustration has come from with a lot of companies!! Thanks for watching 👊🏻

    you have a point the bikes are top of the tree on performance, and accept a few niggles are possible, also something you did not touch on perhaps a higher proportion of owners "use" their bikes harder, another one could be the owners are younger and more media savvy and speak more about issues. As a older rider I have ridden many bikes KTM's included and all have been exciting and characterfull machines the enduro singles very reliable, their ADV's not. I am sorry to disagree the odd clock misting up or clutch slave cylinder failing even with that history continueing for over a decade is one thing, but rocker arms, camshafts etc and KTM shrugging their shoulders whilst giving peeps £2500 bills after 2 seasons worth of riding, nah, not acceptable. used and some say abused a GS 12 around wet Welsh trails aswell as lots of road work for over 150 thousand miles yeh bits wore out but not in 16,000 miles. Had a 1190 did less than 2K the instruments went down £1200 , guy up the road 890 clocks misted chopped it in for a Norden it wont start with the bars on full lock! I have a 2023 890 Adv R and have had countless issues electronically, ABS failing mid ride, bike cutting out and the cold start single cylinder issues, which are still unresolved because KTM just says it’s fine, no worries… and it’s still in warranty because it’s just over a year old and just hit 17000km.
      4 ABS failures, 1 immobiliser replacement, turn signals sweat and don’t drain then fail has been replaced a full set twice and the front 3 times more plus recently a brake sensor under the tank failed and I had no rear brake light for two months while waiting for the replacement.

    Someone finally understands the Tech Pack! If you don't want the options, don't pay for them. It's been that way for decades on cars, where if you want A/C and Cruise Control you just pay more money and get them. Many if not most cars/trucks these days have all the options but are missing the buttons and software, yet no one complains. Entitled brats that want it, but don't want to pay for it. Or they want everyone to pay for it so they don't feel left out. Why isn't everyone complaining about the heated grips or TPS system that is also available and the software exists on every 890? Oh yeah, because you have to buy a part to make it work so that makes you feel better. LOL
