NorCal BDR: The Movie (All Sections 1-9) - 4 x KTM 890 Adventure R's!!
Come along on a journey with me and my mates taking on the incredible NorCal BDR from June 27th through July 3rd of 2024. We completed all 9 Sections including all the Expert ones in 7 days. It was quite the journey that threw us a few curve balls but ultimately we conquered it and have the memories for a life time!

What a fun time we are having on this trip!! Once we got all the tires fixed up it was time for one of the last of the aggressive expert sections. Excellent trip up to this point with minor hiccups and we are seeing the end in sight!! We start Section 7 and all in one day do 180 miles (no fuel stops, the 890’s had enough gas!) including the Alt Harder off-shoot Little Valley. Hey man, how did you get the aux pox mounted to the side of the 890 like that? I've got the perun rails on my 890 and couldnt see a way to fit it. Thanks!
@@tmass91 Yo!! Excellent, you are well on your way with the Perun Rails!! I’m bought some simple ‘Lashing Straps’ from Amazon, maybe $10 for 4 of them. The AuxPox has some breaks in the main holding pocket that I just weaved them thru and it’s held on perfectly!!

@@eatcommies1375 still TBD!! Zero issues here but we use the Rotty Air Intake which is a massive step in the right direction!! Between all 4 of us, ‘22,’23’24’s we have had issues!!

Nice video. At 74 and knee replacement I don't do off road much. You did cover two of my favorite pieces of pavement, Monitor and Ebbetts Pass. I now ride a BMW S1000XR and you were about 20 mph down on my pace, you were 100% faster than my dirt pace now. One thing I did notice that I suffer from, only one side of your conversation with the other riders. I did 3 weeks in Europe in June/July. Noticed the conversation problem editing my videos. Do you know of any way to get the other persons conversations? I am using a dji action4. @@bikeama Thank you for watching!! Ebbetts was other-worldly, I can’t believe how much I enjoyed that morning!! So peaceful … your new bike is a weapon!!I know it, soooo hard to pipe in audio from the other riders. I hope that Bluetooth communicators get better and better so I can get their audio!! I have done a ton of research and not really found any good options :(

What a gorgeous bike! I have the 22 890R but have done most of the upgrades you have here. I also changed my wheel set from the stock version. I run the Motoz Tractionators and I’m able to do 70-75mph on the pavement with comfort! I also did the Rekluse clutch. I ride here in SoCal/Baja so there is a lot of technical rocks and sand. I love the Rekluse! The only downside to me is the cost. Some of the “flameouts” or stalls you had in Moab probably would have been a non issue with the Rekluse. It’s very helpful in technical terrain for me! I’m much older than you and need all the help I can get!! Haha! Thanks for posting, I’m really enjoying your content!
@@michaelflores7657 Super rad … sounds like a killer bike!! The 15 Tooth Sprocket from Dirt Tricks REALLY helped my flameouts, never happens anymore on the 890!!
I was at the Moab Dusty Lizard also….but I left the 890 at home and brought the 501. I think you did great and listening/watching Bradek was really helpful. He makes it look so easy! My 501 was the one at the TacoMoto display, I had just taken delivery of it there. I have the Rekluse clutch on both my 890 and 501…it really helps me, especially doing this type of riding! Not everyone likes the Rekluse but I love mine and will put them on every dirt bike I own. Excellent video, thanks so much for posting!

Thank you for the Radek comment, he’s incredible … one of the best Teachers/Riders, was so fun to get to ride with him! I didn’t do so hot on the big bike but oh well, survived the day!! The Rekluse has been really nice on my 500, allows me to focus on riding better in the technical stuff!!

Thank you for watching and commenting! We did hotels on this one. If planning to do all of the ALT Harder/Expert Sections & have at least 1 Mechanical issue they 7 days is do-able with Hotels. I think it'd add a lot more time to camp!!

When you cross the dam there was a store there at the Bear River reservoir they have hamburgers and some groceries

I was at the union flats camp ground on 49 a bunch of adventure bikes and dualsporters turning on to forest road 93. I was thinking that's probably part of the NorCal bdr and got all jealous.
Oh man that's awesome!! What an area to be able to ride in!! Our group was so fortunate to be able to ride the entire BDR with no bypasses. Hope they are able to keep the fires from spreading!!

We go by 5 of the Major rivers in Cali, There is many opportunities for trout fishing along this route as well. So much to see, the legs are about 125-140 miles in length. You can do more but you will miss many of the best spots along the way. several over 10000 ft climbs in the desert to cool off. id say 50/50 or 60/40 off/on

@@MaxBetMotors yes it is unbelievable out there.. We travel from Wollford hieghts, Lake Isabella and Sherman pass to Sonora pass. But we only use as little of those hiways as possible. We have in incredible route thru the forest. Please check it out. You will not be disappointed
@@MaxBetMotors we go by cherry lake, pine crest bardsley, bridgeport, twin lakes, side excursions to Leavitt lake, mono, Isabella. Kern river, kings river, San Joaquin river, the merced river, the Tuolumne river, Stanislaus river. Pine Flat, Shaver lake, Redinger. i can go on and on..
Great ride and great video ! Did the kove 450 had issues with the venting (gas boiling) during the ride ?
Thanks man!! So I don't remember the Kove having boiling gas, but my 500 sure did hahaha!! Happy Dave was not running a lot of fuel to keep the weight down so if it was boiling we never saw the effects of that....he LOVES that bike!!!

@@Itzik_Arazi He rode it stock for a while but he's a hardcore Rally racer so he's got LOTS of changes including full Showa Suspension being delivered today ... I don't think he's had to touch the venting!!

@@MaxBetMotors 2022, low mileage as the the TFT would completely cloud up so i waited for a replacement and never taken the bike out in poor weather. guess what, ktm hasnt replaced the TFT yet. new parallel twins are not built to last. i know i guy with a rally with cams failure at low mileage. the 890 would be an amazing bike with a honda or yamaha engine
@@Calbertone Man I hate to hear that ... in our group with have a '22, '23 & 2 x '24's ... the '22 has the twin air pre-filter on and no other issues besides that, the '23 had a coolant hose leak that Dan diagnosed and fixed himself, the '24's have had zero issues. The other 3 bikes beside the '22 have the Rottweiler Airbox's installed and have worked perfectly. Just got done with the NorCal BDR and the worst dust we've ever seen and all the bikes did great with those set ups!! We also have all done lithium ion batteries which have been amazing and fixed all kinds of normal niggles. Sadly, we have Honda's and other brands as well and they all seem to have their issues no matter how good they are!!
Get yourself an old crutch, cut off the bottom section suite to size required, just fit a end cap on the cut side. This is a very useful piece of kit to keep the wheel up together with the side stand when fixing tires. It stores the size of a tool roll and can be extended.

Great riding.. Those trails dont seem too knarly on film, but when your actually on a trail, it's completely different. I have an 800de and I rode some of the Mississippi tat this weekend. Didn't look bad on paper, but once I got on it whew...gonna need more that an 80/20 tire real soon. Yall be safe!

I'm leaving for the COBDR in a few weeks. I'm interested in the route you took to stay off the pavement to the start of the dirt at the south end. I'm on a Tenere 700 and my buddy will be on a KLR650. I'm pretty nervous about the high passes.
Dude!! Have the best trip!! So my friend has a UA-cam Channel - DansADV and he did a GREAT video of this exact trip of how to plan this entire thing, would love to point you to that to get incredible info!! All passes except Ophir are relatively easy, just keep good momentum and you will be fine even with luggage!! Happy riding man!!
Someone finally understands the Tech Pack! If you don't want the options, don't pay for them. It's been that way for decades on cars, where if you want A/C and Cruise Control you just pay more money and get them. Many if not most cars/trucks these days have all the options but are missing the buttons and software, yet no one complains. Entitled brats that want it, but don't want to pay for it. Or they want everyone to pay for it so they don't feel left out. Why isn't everyone complaining about the heated grips or TPS system that is also available and the software exists on every 890? Oh yeah, because you have to buy a part to make it work so that makes you feel better. LOL

1 … break in service, that’s it … been an AMAZING bike, top of the mountain!!

@@habibi750 Absolutely, they are AMAZING!!!! We have 4 of them in our group, 1 x ‘22 .. 1 x’23 .. 2 x’24 and no major issues!!
While living in SoCA I rode 750/1100cc sport bikes from Honda, Suzuki, and Yamaha, never had any issues with any of them. After moving to remote CO I only ride KTM. My 2017 KTM 1090R and 2023 KYM 350 EXC-F enable me to ride any off-road trail desired. But I would never consider buying any new 790/890/1290 with all the complex electronics. Now the new KTM enduros have a new computer mounted under the seat that completely controls everything. Similat to the reported 890 starting issues, I am sure we will be hearing about these problems on their new 2024 enduro models. Simplicity=reliability Complexity=unreliability. Choose what works best for you.

I was waiting for the last mile with the steep step downs near the end?? I was told the trail is 35 miles one way.
Ugh!! Caught me!!!!! Ran out of battery … was 58 miles total, 35 were a breeze and really fun … I start to get into the hard stuff but think there was maybe 2 tough parts left including what you are referring to!! I would NOT suggest riding N to S, that would be almost impossible!!

Lockhart is incredible! I gotta ride that someday. I ride a Kove, and it's Interesting to see an RFR and a Kove riding together. 🤙👍
Love that!! Those guys I was riding with do rallies and the RFR has even done Dakar!! So capable and very fun bikes … the Kove ate Lockhart up!! Hope you get to take yours there!!

Having had two Suzuki DL 1000/1050 Vstroms with over 140,000 miles on both of them, then switched to Kawasaki‘s Verys LT 1000 with 90,000 miles on it until it got ran over by a car… Three months ago I bought a KTM 890 Adventure Standard at the 400 mile mark the countershaft sprocket seal blew out, replaced by dealer under warranty. At the 700 mile mark, the bike shut off and would not restart until I got it towed home. Then it started all on its own again. Two days ago while riding, the TFT screen blanked out on me twice. I had to pull over on the side of the road both times recycle the key to get the TFT screen to come on. All the Japanese bikes I have owned were rock solid machines. My recent purchase of this KTM has really left me wondering if I chose wisely my style riding is long distance riding, and I’m wondering if this KTM is gonna leave me stranded on the road as it has already. It’s a shame we pay this kind of money for a premium motorcycle and it has all these issues. 🤔🤔🤔
Hate that for you!! I would highly suggest installing a Lithium Ion Battery, seems to cure a lot of the electronic ‘niggles’ we are dealing with!! Hate that the price for the best and most confident off road is issues like these 😅

@@jameslee5428 Love that …. It takes an army man!! My battery has dramatically got ride of ALL my warnings … I used the Antigravity 10 Version … ride on!!
I've added this to my watch list and will comment more once watched! I took a 22' KTM 890 Adventure and aggressively modified it for off-road performance then considered sharing my creation here as well. Excited to see what you've come up with!
