This gave Kylie her first UK No1 single in 10 years and kickstarted her second imperial phase. At the time the video was iconic for those gold hotpants, and is one of Kylie's signature songs in her set lists ❤

Spinning Around was released in 2000 and brought her back in the spotlight in Europe and Australia. The vintage 70's look was picked up by many artist for "inspiration".....yet Kylie's album Lightyears was a celebration of that area with her favorite memories (like loveboat).

I love the whole vibe of Spinning Around!
I was working in London when the Light Years album was released in 2000 and Spinning Around was a career changer for Kylie, as she was finally viewed on par with Madonna in the UK. The success of the song and album also provided the push for Kylie to jump back into the US market with her 2001 Fever album, which peaked at #3 on the Billboard charts and produced 3 huge singles: Can’t Get You Out of My Head, In Your Eyes and Love at First Sight.
The production of the Spinning Around video is very slick, and you would never know that Kylie is barely 5 feet tall. The camera angles of her body on the bar and the dance floor, combined with Kylie’s infamous “very short” gold hot pants make her appear to have really long legs. Most people think she’s much taller than she actually is…

That was THE BIG comeback for Kylie. Her being back on making pop/ dance bangers... Of all ''comebacks'' for her , this was/ is the most important...

This song was wrote by Paula Abdul and Paula originally wrote the song for her fourth album, but Paula abandonning the project and this song was give for Kylie. Kylie just signed her new contract with her new record company, Parlophone (the same record company to Coldplay) and this album, ''Light Years'' was labeled to be her comback album after to not have a massive in the 90's like in the 80's. This song was the first single of this album and was her comeback single. In UK and Australia, this was her first n.1 single in many years and the album was her most selling album since her second album in 1989.
This album, ''Light Years'' was influenced by the disco and the next album, ''Fever'' continued this influenced of disco who she adopted for the ''Light Years'' album.

Yeah, this song was co-written by Paula Abdul for her own fourth album. But when that wasn't made the song went to Kylie, who completely made it her own.
In an interesting turn of events years later Paula recorded a Kyle reject, "I''m Just Here For the Music".

***Y2K KYLIE TRIVIA TIME!!**** ...move outta my way.....(0:41)....I gotta SPIN, again...
    - ....THIS, was when Kylie came back.....BIG....the 1st single from Kylie's 2000 "Light Years" Album, was the RIGHT Song, and the RIGHT time (the 00's) ....She returned to doing Dance-Pop Music, but with more attitude, meaning, SEXINESS.....and, those shorts.....
    - ...Oh, those SHORTS! (3:56)....a last minute costume change found at a thrift Store(!), Kylie's costumer fitted them for Kylie, and she was ALL OVER THE NEWS, because of them! ....Kylie was officially a WOMAN, and they had to RESPECT Her, and her Music.....
    - .....this tune was written by Paula Abdul(!!), and Kylie loved the lyrics, because they were EXACTLY what she was going through....the (UK) Public JUMPED, and gave her a #1 Pop hit, since "Tears On My Pillow".....(2:34) ...It's not a 'sample' but it's an interpretation, of the 1998 Dance classic "Music Sounds Better With You", by Stardust.....
    - ....Empress, this got Kylie back on track, BIG TIME......

2000 was a massive year for her after the indi phase. She closed the Sydney Olympics that year too and her On A Night tour was huge for her. Put her back at number 1 in the UK 🇬🇧 and Australia 🇦🇺 after her ‘indi’ phase with the Impossible Princess album (my least fave of her albums). It was fabulous to have our pop Kylie back
I agree big time on her lower register….I wish she’d use it more because it’s heaven to hear…but she just seems more comfortable using the higher register

Co-written by Paula Abdul. If I remember correctly the song brought Paula to the attention of Simon Cowell and she became an American Idol judge. A lot of people auditioned with it on Pop Idol, the original British version that he started

This was big "comeback" hit for Kylie although I don't think it made much of a dent in the States.
However I remember the song and video being played in all the gay clubs.
Partly because we gays are notorious for our love of gold hot pants 😂
Legend has it these were bought at a flea market for about 50 cents and they've since been in multiple museum exhibits.

She never have a huge success in US like in Europe or Australia, but have a couple of hits in US, like ''Locomotion'' (her highest single in US) and particulary ''Can't Get You Out of My Head'', her biggest single, worlwide including also (depist ''Locomation charted higher, ''Can't Get You Out of My Head'' was her biggest single). She didn't released any albums in the US after the second album and ''Fever'' was the first album to be released in US since her second album.

I’m a bit late to the party with my comments on this banger! This song really reintroduced me to Kylie. Being from the US I had really only known her from her 80s hits “Locomotion” and “Lucky in Love”. Even though this song was not big in the US i remember being introduced to this song by seeing the video and have loved all her music and been a big fan ever since! Would love to see her show in Vegas while she is doing her residency there! Fun reaction Empress!!!!😊

Hi, empress!, Happy new year!, Thank you for doing the reaction to Kylie's 'Spinning Around', a lot of us fan went crazy for this bop, i certainly did, went to the essential nightclub in manchester friday 9th june 2000, to see Kylie sing the song and others, was right at the front, and kylie was amazing singing in front of me, and the fans who travelled from around the world for that night, australia, spain, it was my first time seeing kylie , live, incredible, the host kept saying for fans to step back a few steps as we were getting crushed, the stage front was broken by the end of the night, the song sold 82k to debut at no.1 in the u.k, still have the andys records poster and promo vhs tape! many regards :)

For me, this song started my love affair with Kylie!
It's the start of the modern grown-up Kylie. Before this she had the 80s which I hated and still do. The 90s was generally better with high lights such as "Confide in me" and the album "Impossible princess" (still in my Top 3 of Kylie albums) but had some really loooooooow points as well. 90s white dance music was very stiff (in the wrong way) if you ask me. So, with "Spinning Around" and the album "Light years" in 2000 I totally fell for her, songs, singing, looks, everything... and she's been my top pop artist ever since to this day in early 2024.
Thank you for reacting to Kylie! You're doing a great job! 🙂👍

This was a pre-comeback comeback for Kylie seeing her top the charts 10 years after her last #1 - without this, her 2001 Fever era and Can’t Get You Out of My Head would never have happened. As a fan since 1987 I have to admit to loathing Spinning Around - don’t know what it is I just hate the sound of it.

I wasnt a fan of Spinning Around either. If you want to become a fan of it tho i think you should check out her performance of it on a show called Smash Hits from the year 2000. To me she really brings the vocals for it. This is from the album light years released in 2000. Its kylies comeback from her flop album Impossible Princess and right before the Mega Hit Fever. Kylie left Deconstruction and signed with Paralphone records. They all agreed they wanted to bring her back to pop. The whole album is disco pop and is suppose to give you a vacation feel like going to the beach having cocktails taking trips on cruises. The song was written by Paul Abual and the woman that replaced Paula on American Idol Kara something. Robbie Williams produced some songs too. The album was huge. Those gold shorts she wears in the video have their own legendary story now and a spot in a museum in Australia. The video made Kylie butt popular and the UK named it as a national treasure i kid you not. Its great all this worked out because kylie said she didnt know what she would do next if it didn't. She went as far as buying a house in L.A. and try acting there next. She auditioned for a role in a tv show and got it but turned it down because it interfered with recording. But just imagine Kylie in one of those late 90s early 2000s tv shows. Like on the WB lol.

It did what it needed to do and got Kylie back at the top of the UK charts. Is it a favourite of mine? Far from it. Spinning Around is actually more beloved among casual Kylie fans and the general public than actual stans...if that makes sense.

Even at the time I liked Kylie a lot, but I never liked this song at all, still today. Lyrics are just bland meh, melody bland meh, production, meh. I never got it! The song is a mystery!
