      @@shaunhoward6838 I'm saying it because she's shot 3 videos with motels for Kylie within last 5 years. She;s recycling the same ideas, trying to cover it up with cheap filters and her camera work is horrendous. Compare Joseph Kahh's, Christian Larson's or even Michel Gondry's technique to Sophie. I can't believe anyone really thinks they are on the same level. She's a very budget director that Kylie's choosing because she doesn't bother spending money on her career anymore.

  • @sputukgmail
    @sputukgmail 6 місяців тому +21

    😂 I knew this song and video well and I started laughing as soon as you started thinking it was “just” a one take. The look on your face when you first saw the loop with Kylie duplicated was priceless, but then when you started explaining it “you just…” 😂 I was thinking, oh yeah? You just huh? You don’t even know! Just wait….and that next moment when you realised…literally laughed out loud with your reaction as that was exactly what I think everyone who knows how to edit video was thinking.
    But here’s another thing..think about when this video was made and how much more primitive the video editing tools were back then. Those side bars are not an effect, the video was shot and made in 4:3 because it predated 16:9 being common. Seriously, the video edit tools back then were like trying to tie your shoes while wearing boxing gloves! We had an early offline video edit system at work and there were no live previews, you got a single thumbnail for what a clip contained, and you had precisely 2 layers - the video itself, and one layer you could overlay. To see what you had edited, you had to render the video which could take 20mins to an hour. Then you got to see if your choice of effect, or your trimming was frame perfect or not. No scrubbing, no live preview, no multiple layers of clips, no grouping things nothing we take for granted these days.
    Now, the system we had was maybe $20k at that time and the editors of this maybe had something 10x that or better and was probably up to things we didn’t get at our price for another 5 years, but still - it was another world and trust me, there was no “you just” ;)
    Anyhow, loved the reaction, and trip down memory lane remembering how I felt seeing it for the first time :)

    • @sputukgmail
      @sputukgmail 6 місяців тому +2

      By the way, I would love to see you react to more older videos which had ground breaking editing in them now I’ve seen this. Maybe something like A-ha with Take on Me, or Dire Straights with Money for Nothing, or ohhh, a good one because the effects looks so bad now but blew everyone’s minds at the time was Duran Duran with The Reflex - you’ll know the bit I mean when you see it. Or, Stevie Wonder with I just called (I forget what the video suit was that was used in that but every TV studio had one as soon as it came out as its ability to produce real time “3d” manipulation of 2 video feeds made everything else look prehistoric overnight.

      Bro it just kept having me guessing and I do this stuff🤣 I bet it was funny watching me think I had it figured out. Cuz I still dont🤣🤣🤣 but yeah, I'm aware of 4:3 vs 16:9...I thought I spoke on it being the old used ratio. But what I loved that u pointed out was....in the reaction I was saying, however they did it kudos to them cuz stuff like this takes a long time( and I was referring to time using today's robust processing editors) but if I think it would be hard today...like u said....think about doing back then with the more primative equiptment🤯🤦🏾‍♂️ ur so right....shout out to Michel Gondry👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 I reacted to another of his by Bjork...should be releasing this week sometime. One of my favorite videos. Still remarkable, after all of these years. I am sure every single movement was choreographed, but, Kylie has a way of making the difficult and staged seem effortless and natural. Ive been wondering how this was done for about 20 years and I think the camera was on a circular track that was timed so that it came back round to the chorus at the same part of the street. There are no 2nd 3rd or 4th 'takes' of Kylie that I can see, but its possible that the people in the background were filmed separately. I assumed that everyone just moved for each time around, but I'm not sure. Id love to see a BTS for this and so many of his videos.

    You should check out the Michel Gondry Director's Series DVD if you can find it. Gondry goes deep into making each of his videos and ideas. Yeah, you guessed it, the camera was on a computer-controlled crane so it moved exactly the same each rotation, so it' was really just a 1-take, where every extra moved to their new position each rotation, and then just layered all 4 rotations on top of each other (and the bonus 5th at the very end). There's not more cars because they only rolled through the first rotation.
    I would LOVE to see the unduplicated take, because the coordination and choreography is still insane

    The aspect ratio of this video is simply because it's old...it's from 2001...so it wasn't an artistic decision.

      It’s actually Michel Gondry, he pronounces it correctly. In French you pronounce it as he does in this video.
