I knew a paratrooper who jumped on D-Day. Even in his old age, he would pull up his shirt and show the scar from the ack-ack that hit him in his side. He was always open to talking about D-Day, and when I asked him what he thought about it now, he described it as an utter "blood bath" and a "shit show." "They were waiting for us..." He said. This great American is no longer with us. I'll never forget him.
My father was part of this mission. He was a radio operator and he spent most of the invasion sitting in a cruiser listening to and relaying messages while depth charges went off all around the ship. Much later, after most of the fighting was over, he walked onto the beach with the rest of his unit trying not to step on the bodies of the fallen. It was a traumatic experience for him, but he would always beam with pride when he recounted meeting the general in person after Normandy was secured. Eisenhower shook his hand and thanked him for his service. For my dad, I believe that was the crowning moment of his life
God bless your dad for his service in this very important military mission- Operation Overlord. 🇺🇸
And it is 2024 and here we are….
And here we are never better said
My uncle was part of the operation. A few years ago, after my mother’s funeral, he was telling me and my friends about that day, and this message. We were like little kids listening to him describe that day. He was 18 that day
Thanks for sharing great speeches
Glad you enjoyed it
A great speech by a great man on the greatest day of the 20th century.
Without the upbeat music it sounds a whole lot more depressing
God those men are so young....
There is no reason for another world war there is no more Hitler that's why
Pushed into training, most young men will rise up. Training changes and inspires you. There will be heros among them as every generation.
@user-bd5md5cm2j I sure hope you are right
@@Dingus99268Hitler may be gone but i believe the evil won't stop just by that i believe there will be a world war 3 since there are many new modern dictators and im not hoping for it im just saying the evil won't stop just because of that friend.
(Apology if my grammar is wrong)
It's been 80 years since these heroes embarked upon one of the greatest crusades against evil and liberated western europe!
Coldest speech ever made
trueee
Eisenhower was my 9th cousin four times removed
same
And yet here we are dissapointing the ww2 veterans.
The soundtrack is unnecessary and horrible to listen to. Eisehower’s words alone should be enough. You should remove that awful music and reupload this speech.
