I do not understand why Artist and UA-camrs use heavy pressure and destroy the tooth of the paper instead of light layer with a crosshatch done in varying directions or small circles with Crayola Colored Pencils. The same people will revel in the endless light layers that are applied with expensive pencils. Inexpensive mineral spirits can be used with any pencils and gives the paper more tooth for additional layers. Crayola 120 set has fabulous colors and is well pigmented for the price. The joy comes from creating. Use a decent paper such as Canson XL mixed media or Neenah Bristol Vellum (can be purchased in bulk at Walmart for under$10) and light layers. Beautiful artwork can be created. Also the woodless Crayola Color Sticks (not Slick Stix) have a wonderful lay down , can be sharpened for detail work and make fast work of large areas such as backgrounds. I use them alongside my colored pencils. The 24 set of Color Sticks and a 50 set of Crayola colored pencils can be used to create unlimited fantastic artwork.
