SARRACENIA CARE CONDITIONS | PITCHER PLANT

  • Our plant was kept outdoors, alongside the other flowering plants. There was no need to feed it artificially because it was fed by insects on its own. Optimum temperature during the growing season is from + 25-35 C.
    Sarracenia has no need in fertilizing, because all the nutrients they’ll need will come from their own ability to trap pray within the pitchers. The plant can digest as many insects as they fit into each pitcher. If the plant is constantly kept indoors and does not have the opportunity to catch an insect, then it is necessary to feed it once a month from April to September. Digestion takes from two days to a month depending on the size of the insect.

      You can buy mix for carnivorous plants online (idk if they sell it in shops), or you can make a mix of about 3 parts peat moss to 1 part sand. If there aren't showing roots in the bottom of the pot you shouldn't put it in a bigger one.

      @xxpowwowbluexx 3 роки тому +1

      They go dormant in the Winter. They look dead, but they’re still alive and will come back in the Spring. Some of the Sarracenia species begin to die back as early as the Fall, as the temps get cooler, but they will begin growing new leaves when Spring comes around again.

    • @leafjaws6454
      @leafjaws6454 4 роки тому +1

      Sarracenia purpurea is the round and short speices of sarracenia. So you have sarracenia purpurea. S.purpurea has subspeices like S.purpurea purpurea and S.purpurea venosa. S.purpurea purpurea has a little more thiner pitchers and with smaller hoods than S.purpurea venosa. S.purpurea venosa has more round pitchers with bigger and more wavy hoods. It also has a lot of small hairs on the outer surface of the pitchers. S.purpurea purpurea is the hardiest speices of sarracenia. S.purpurea venosa is like the other speices. In my videos I have a S.purpurea venosa. If you want you can watch my videos to how S.purpurea venosa is like. I hope I helped you to identify your sarracenia.

    • @MPHampel86
      @MPHampel86 4 роки тому

      @Johno As long as you’re not in a super arid/desert climate, I wouldn’t worry about humidity. That’s more important for tropical carnivorous plants like Nepenthes. As long as Sarracenia are well watered it’s not very important.

      They do not need very much humidity at all. Most Sarracenia pitcher plants are native to full-sun environments where the temperature can be in the 90°s F or higher in the Summer with low humidity.
