  • This video shows how to replace the main headlight light bulb for a 2008 Toyota Solara with an HID D4S 35W light bulb.
The process takes about 15 minutes to install and saves a significant amount of money versus the prices charged by dealers and auto repair shops.
    Enjoy!

OMG THANK YOU!! I saw another video that suggested you remove the entire assembly. I was about to give up and take to my mechanic. You are a life saver!

Great video, thank you so much! I did the passenger side first, because there is more room to see everything and get familiar with the parts, especially that metal clip, so I could do it by feel on the driver's side. Next I tackled the driver's side. For me, I had to take out the battery first and that gave me a lot more room to work. Now the new bulbs are working great and I saved hundreds thanks to you! Toyota dealer in St Louis told me, "yeah, that'll be $300 for the bulbs alone, plus there'll be labor on top of that because we'll have to take off the bumper." The old bulbs I pulled out were the exact same Phillips bulbs I just bought on amazon for $100. I understand a dealer needing to make some reasonable profit, but that seems like too much, plus you don't have to take off the bumper for heaven's sake.

    Good Day,
Got my Solara last January. Was going to replace my OEM headlight with LED's and I have a 2008 Toyota Solara Convertible. What I noticed was that I have the H11 bulbs for the main lights not the D4S as you indicate here. Tried to see if there was a cross conversion and could not find one.
Anyone know why there are two different bulbs in the same year car? I could see if they were different years but being they are both 2008's I was just a bit curious.
Anyway, this helped me change both the main and high beam bulbs to LED's with only a few scrapes and cuts. Even in the garage they look a whole lot better. Thank you for the video.
    Mark😁

Than[ks for the video. I have a 2007 Toyota Solara convertible and my problem was the passenger side low beam HID bulb. I changed the bulb in about 20 minutes and the only "trouble" I had was I had to use a small mirror to put the clip back in place. The bulb was the same as in the video. The dealer wanted $275, the local repair shop wanted $200 and I did the job for $55 as I bought the same bulb from Amazon. Thanks again.

Thank you! I have a 2008 Solara Convertible. It was so easy to change the bulb following your instructions. Also my car came with the same light bulb you posted in the video.

You are a lifesaver! Thank you for posting this very helpful video. I heard this wasn't an easy job, but I will attempt it on my 2005 Solara after watching this.

I had to change our dim headlight on our 2007 Solara 7/1/2022, it was a lot easier to take the whole head light out to change it than to try to put it in from the back.

Thank you. I purchased a 2004 6 months ago. Even though Ford cars obviously are not as good as Toyota at least I could replace my bulbs so easy front and back. This has no room. I also watched how to replace the whole assembly. The bumper is in the way, stupied

My 2005 wasn't like this. It uses h11 bulbs though. They were super easy and took me just a few minutes.

My clips are so tight and with the parts in the way in the engine compartment I can't get the bulb out...any tips? It's so frustrating because I am mechanically inclined!

Just wondering why you didn't remove the battery? But I do appreciate this video.

I appreciate the fact that you took the time to create and post this video. However - I think it's a little short in one aspect. The video fails to show or even emphasize how difficult it is to actually remove or replace it with that fusebox in the way. I got as far as removing the outer cap, but then found it impossible to grab the bulb holder enough to unscrew it. Without ever getting the old bulb out, and after much panic, I managed to get it back together. I went to a body shop and they wanted $150 labor to change the bulb on the fuse box side. That tells you how difficult it is. If the fusebox is removed (or loosened enough to move it slightly) would it be much easier? Is it difficult or unwise to move the fusebox? Thx

I replaced the RH bulb on my 2008 solara sle convertible. But I could not take off the electric connector on the LH bulb cover. The connector is pointing down. Any advice how I can get to the locking clip to lift it up? A hooked tip tool help?

I have a 2008 Avalon and it has an issue with one of the headlights turning off intermittently. If you flick the lights off and then back on, it comes back on without issue. Temperature, time of day, bumps, nothing I have found to be a factor. I have researched that others have had the same issue. Any ideas? Does the Avalon have an igniter that can be replaced?

Josh H - It may be a bad lightbulb or a bad connection.

I had the same problem. Dealer said this is a sign the headlights are going out - said they don't go out, and stay out, light a bulb in your house.

    • @joet4806
      @joet4806 2 роки тому

@@rwnethercot is the issue resolved? the Drivers side bulb flicks off, then I turn off the lights, then turn them back on and both lights come on.
      Can't figure it out.

I have a 2008 Solara convertible. My high beams will not come on. Inside the dash I can see the blue light comes on when I turn on the high beams but it does not come on. I was driving on a not very bright street at night and the main light was not really helpful. Can you tell me what I need to do? I checked the relay and all the fuses and they work fine. How can both high beams not work? ty

You can use a multimeter to check whether current reaches the bulb. If so, then it would suggest that you need to replace the bulbs. If not, it suggests a problem elsewhere.
