I find these 70's shows much better than what we're offered today. Something special about the way they were filmed.

Most US series up until the 90s were shot on Cinema quality black and white or colour 35mm film. This is why classic series up to that time like The Outer Limits (1963), Rawhide, The Big Valley (1968), Dallas, Columbo (1970s), Star Trek (1960s) and many many others, like this series, can still look amazing today. Sadly quality deteriorated starting in the 90s when video tape was used instead. This accounts for the terrible picture quality of ALL the Star Trek spin-offs, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, The X Files, Xena Warrior Princess, Dr Quinn, The Outer Limits (1995), Twin Peaks, and many others, including the last one or two series of the wonderful Dallas, which then became unwatchable.

@@keithnaylor1981 Every decade has it's good quality films along with thousands of lesser quality and many dustbin (Trashcan) grade. There are some great quality films in this present era. But you have to find them among the myrride of low quality. But one thing is. You likly will not be finding the top grade on UA-cam.

They didn't have to worry about everyone getting their sissy feelings hurt. So they were able to make actual realistic movies and shows. I mean look at Archie Bunker, that sure as hell wouldn't be allowed on tv today! Good times!

Oh and a capri because that was his first car and he found one just like it. He always is getting old cars. He will sit all night long scanning Craigslist. Excellent episode! I love the nostalgia of the show and how the story so eerily transcends through time. I miss this type of storytelling. There wasn’t a need for blood, gore or explicit sex scenes… Just good old-fashioned storytelling acted-out via a great cast, a great set/location and a great soundtrack! The sound is so crucial. If only we could go back in time. It’s funny to think I wasn’t even born yet, not for several more years, when I watch these great old shows from the early 70’s! Life is strange. The biggest mistake of this series was giving Sebastian Cabot an Alias. He was such an enormous star in 1972, they could have had him introduce the episodes as himself and it would have landed a touch of class as it did with Boris Karloff on "Thriller" or Rod Serling on "Night Gallery". The whole Winston Essex thing is just silly Possibly one of Bill Castles ideas.

@BrooklynGirl. I realize that this is definitely an older series, but as this may be a 1st viewing for some, would you PLEASE, please be so kind as to put Spoiler Alert before you comment on the ending. I have seen it, but some haven't and may see the comments before they manage to enlarge the screen, thus obscuring the comment section. It only takes a sec to do. Thanking you in advance. Have a lovely evening!

Thank you! I watched the ending twice and thought it was odd. Why didn't he say "Sit down? No thanks, but they'll have plenty of seating where you're headed!" I half expected the twist ending to be that the sheriff and both of the caretakers were all ghosts or something we didn't see coming. Anyhow, thanks for clarifying what that ending was about.

Yes, and even with the grey wig and beard, you could see that he was very young - about thirty years younger than the age he was playing - and I thought his version of an older man's voice was not very good. Why not simply have got an older actor for the part?!?!

@@aintnobodyherebutuschicken1418 That's exactly what I said! Why didn't they hire an older actor instead of trying to (unsucessfully) age a ypung one?

I love this series, got to watch it when it was first run, I was between 6 and 7 years old, scared the crap out of me when I watched it with others but was even worse when watching by myself. The episode 'Half-A-Death' is my favorite of all. Still creepy and scary after all these years. Real glad it's out on DVD now. As soon as I saw the quality of these uploads I ordered the complete DVD set and now I'm just waitin' for it! Great show, every episode. The quality of the DVD set should be better than what we have here, but the uploads all look great too, apart from the black bars on either side. The DVDs obviously should fit the screen, original television aspect and all.

I'll have to watch this episode again and pay closer attention. Had the couple exhumed the corpses and reburied them in the cellar? Or had the graves outside been empty all along as part of a ruse? Why were the men murdered, and by whom? Did the old couple actually exist, even, or were they hallucinations on the heroine's part? Did the sheriff intend to arrest them at the end, if in fact they were real and he suspected that they were murderers?
