  • A surprise review of a random Scottish steam locomotive in Train Simulator. This is the Caledonian Railway '600 class'; an 0-8-0 tender engine that first appeared in 1901. She was brought to TS by Caledonia Works, a third-party developer that's known for focusing on obscure steam locomotives that (in my opinion) looked unlikely to ever come to TS.

The 600 Class was one of those CR types built when John F McIntosh was their Chief Mechanical Engineer between 1895-1914. Originally built to serve The Lanarkshire Coalfields.

5:07, you could describe the wheel arrangement as if the arrangement of the Kaiser Wilhelm Der Grosse class funnels were inverted.

The wheel base is peculiar for two reasons, the rear spacing is to allow a big firebox, the front spacing is down to the design borrowing components shared with other CR locomotives. Standard sets of connecting rods and other bits to make things easier.
They also had 0-8-0 tanks with a similar uneven wheel spacing between the first and second axle though no weird spacing on the rear axle because the large fire box wasn't present.

Oh yes, I remember the Caledonian 0-8-0 tanks now (I think it was the 492 class). I stupidly forgot to feature the 492s in that line-up of 0-8-0s at the end.

@@TheTrainspotterFromTauranga all good, the other reason behind it is to get the front axle as far forward as possible to avoid the use of a leading wheel set to take the weight of the cylinder block without having a huge overhang up front. It's kinda like the designer did a riff on the fundimental ideas of a long boiler 0-6-0 but then also made the boiler just bigger in every way possible and chucked the extra axle on the back to deal with the weight of the fire box.
They also did see passenger use from time to time, think they even made it down to Carlisle a few times in that capacity if I remember right.

Love the Content I’ve been following the channel since I found your straight to the point not bought by DTG attitude to the reviews I’ve seen a few more content creators who you can tell just say nice things because they get given keys.
Your opinion is the one that decides wether I buy a TSW add on or not
I was wondering as an Old TS Classic Player (Only Have an Xbox X these days) (dying inside from the hundreds of pounds of unused content sitting in my steam account)
Would you be able to do a review of the Doncaster works add on as I remember it being pretty good (I like Shunting) and the unique rolling stock was a great add on and maybes get the word out there to the TSW Players as it’s a route I’d like to see added to TSW and obviously in your typical way let everyone know how u would improve on it For example maybes a mainline connection with trains coming in and dumping Rolling stock ready for refurbishment or Scrap.

Not sure about reviewing Doncaster Works; I've got a long list of things to check out as it is. But I'm not saying that it's a bad suggestion.
