  • Luke heads to Hixton, Wisconsin to visit a family farm of a different color. At Superior Fresh’s state of the art facility Luke gets a personal tour from President Gottsacker who introduces Luke to new methods of farming that produce high-quality organic greens and top-of-the-line atlantic salmon that are both economically and ecologically sound. Luke finishes the day by putting the salmon and greens to the test.

What an impressive farm. I lived up in Sconny 40 years. Moved to NM in 95 and then to mexico in 2006.. Coming home for good in spring. Wisconsin rocks regardless of those cold winters. Because of things like this.

My absolute favorite episode of Wisconsin Foodie yet! Great to highlight this type of operation, which is absolutely the future of agriculture!

I would like to hear what they are actually feeding these fish. Salmon are mainly piscivorous. No veg material will replace that

We live near Hixton, & I've worked at 3-4 different Greenhouses, so I was checking out Superior Fresh. I wouldn't really call it a "greenhouse", it's not like any operation that I've ever seen.

Love the salmon. I wish Superior Fresh would sell whole fish, so we can bake and broth them. Fillets are wasteful of much of the fish. That's not the SF way.

That’s an amazing operation! Please please please reach out to Tom Eggert in Madison, WI for a UW-Madison and the MREA Festival for field trips or creating some sort of course work.
The guys at Blue Honey Bio-fuels would also be super game for any involvement that made sense.
I don’t remember the name of the farm, but they fed the fish guts to pigs, and then finished them with a 3+ weeks on an orchard.
The fasting of the salmon was particularly fascinating

As soon as cannabis is legal, these folks are primed to capitalize on a more profitable cash crop.
