The glass canon premise to balance him on paper with less health has never actually worked in the past and it doesn't work now. I wouldn't even be mad at Akuma if they didn't give him a wholly stupid teleport command grab along with his giant toolkit. New game, same Akuma BS.

No it's not. He was way stronger in SF4.
SF4 speed is on a whole other level compared to SF6, so coupled with a light character Akuma was in that game, it made him even quicker to do anything and harder to react to.
Here he feels heavy, lost invincibility on his teleport, lost his demon flip grab, I don't like his air fireball and the slower pace of SF6 makes you able to react to anything he does.
Later, when people figure out his damage combo routes, he could be good, but right now, he's mid at best.
In the hands of a good player any character is good. Manon is trash, I'll never win a round vs Idom no matter which character I play.
Just from that footage fighting average players I saw nothing as threatning as Ken for example while also having only 9000 health.
I tried him in training mode and saw nothing special about him granted I'm not a shoto player so I can't compare to other shotos. (I play Manon and Ed mainly)
I was hyped to try him out, maybe too much, but after that training session, I was really disappointed. I thought of SF4 Akuma too because of the focus attack system and it didn't feel the same at all.
In SF5 Akuma was a real threat.

Hey Smug, what kind of controller are you using for SF6? I use Sony dualsense and it's so incredible bad to play with as sometimes the bluetooth connection get lost in middle of combos and stuff. Really love street fighter but it's unplayable at times because of this. And yeah.. Akuma looks sick..

i mean ryu was able to do abigail types of damage as well. So seeing akuma, a literal glass canon, get that damage aint that suprising. i wonder how you would react to the fact that akuma has meaty overhead setups that leave him only minus 2 on perfect parry. or air Fireball setups that leaves you at around 9+ on perfect parry
you can combo raging demon from a combo did a 5600 dmg combo with it 3100 from combo and rest of dmg from raging demon.

I hopped on ranked with my main, Gief, and was pleasantly grateful that he received big damage buffs even if Capcom didn't give him essential things like a cross-up lariat. That said, my first couple matches were against Akumas and I fared well while exhaling that maybe, just maybe, he isn't dumb busted like every other past precedent. All seemed well. He's strong but not stupid strong, I thought.
My 9-game streak was broken by another Akuma, I still got the 2-1, but I had to dip from the game entirely after going against another three Akumas in a row as these players seemingly figured out his teleport command grab is absolutely stupid. Goddamn did I get tilted ngl. I'm sure it's a move that we'll learn to duck and punish but as of now, it's a genuine problem.
I figured that Akuma will take the throne up top of the roster, likely behind or alongside Luke, as he's a hype one that sells season passes to the masses. Still, this character did not need more dumb tools in his plus-sized kit like that teleport grab. His normals, DR, and everything else are already super solid, plus it's Akuma, so I made the loudest, "Oh helllllll no" when I played an Akuma who did teleports back and forth as if to taunt me before landing that command grab from one. He's already equipped with so many other moves with decent damage so long story short: Akuma is out, he's super popular, and he's pretty busted like usual.

Akuma is not broken. Every new released character is getting called "broken" by different content creators, often exaggerating the abilities. Best example was A.K.I. when later after her release people calmed down to the realization that A.K.I. is mediocore if at all. Give it time and people will figure Akuma out too.
Aki is actually pretty decent does well in tournaments

Akuma has been consistently really good in fighters even as a guest char lol. He was indeed broken when he was just a playable boss character in the old days though.
