I'm 73, a retired marine and locomotive engineer/mechanic/machinist and have been messing with and rebuilding/restoring all types of vehicles as a hobby for most of my life. You're a very good teacher, you know what you're doing and have the gift of good common sense. Your abilities are a rare thing these days, and anyone watching your videos should be grateful that you take the time to do them! People criticizing your methods are simply showing their ignorance and inability to comprehend your reasoned approach to this type of project. They need to think before they comment. Keep up the interesting sessions, as I'm sure there are younger folks who could learn a lot from them- if they pay attention!

Entirely correct on the carb...we old timers got it immediately....small potatoes during a start-up...you gave your watchers a carb circuit lesson on the fly and they beat up on you....that's UA-cam I guess but you'd think they'd trust you by now....appreciate you bringing me along in the yard...

1951 Studebaker Champion was the first car I ever bought in 1962 at the age of 14. I paid $50 for it and drove it for years to Sun Valley skiing and trout fishing. God, I love the looks of these things and I've always dreamed of having another one. Thanks for a great story, you caused several flashbacks LOL...

  • @nickjervis8123

Carburetors are a huge topic. I have a 1954 Packard Patrician with a 4 barrel carb which is compound carb meaning that the front two barrels work off the throttle and the back two work off manifold pressure. I also have a 1940 Buick Super 8 with a 1941 compound carb set up which consists of two two barrel carbs the front one works off the throttle and the back one off manifold pressure.
Manifold pressure is the key to gas flow and anyone wanting to learn how to diagnose faults and understand them even on new vehicles needs to understand manifold pressure.
For instance on a modern intercooler engine the exhaust has a venturi to increase pressure and thus speed up the exhausting of the spent gases to the intercooler to drive the turbo.
Manifold pressure was crucial to piston engine aircraft design and the first Bendix pressure carbs fitted to the Merlin engine for the Spitfire and Mustang P51 meant they could match the DB fuel injection system.
You know the importance of these basic laws of physics amply illustated by the operation of your Studebaker carb.
You do not have to justify what should be taught in schools.
    All the best from
    Nick Jervis UK 🇬🇧

You have a minimalist aesthetic that is rare these days. Most people feel justified automatically buying parts to repair vehicles, and I include myself in that group. You consistently demonstrate the folly of that attitude; why waste money?

Your doing a good job with these revival videos! Don't worry about what people in the comments say, most of them have probably wasted plenty of money in their time by making stupid decisions. I say you made the right choice by waiting to dump more money into it till after you made sure the motor was good. If that motor was bad that 239 Y block would have been nice to drop in the Stude.

    • @jerrybrooks870

I'll have to agree with the first part of what you said. There are a lot of people out there who are ready to criticize when they don't have a clue of what they are talking about. However, putting a Ford engine in a Studebaker is a desecration. It's ok to put a Studebaker engine in a Ford to make it more reliable but never the other way around.

You, a good honest man. I can relate to your work because I grew up fixing my parents 50's, 60,s 70,s cars. Carbs, 6 volt systems, distributors with points and condensers, radio,s with vibrator tubes, vacuum wipers, generators, alcohol antifreeze. Them were the days. Any 12 year old kid could fix them. ( I know for a fact ). Always loved those bullet nose Studes. Basically non existent in Ohio now. Thanks for sharing. Great memories.

My Dad loved Studebaker's as a family car, he was a heavy equipment machinic and had Ford as a work truck. I thought that the Studebaker was not too cool as a kid in the late 50s. But I think that what he liked was the drive train, not the body. He died in 1962 but what I learned is that he always had a Studebaker for the off work times. Thank for the videos. Carl
