      Stringplay hello, I've heard from some people that rolling the finger on the violin is not correct vibrato is that true? I've heard that you need to bend and flatten your finger for correct vibrato, however this rolling one is much easier.

    • @cchristinechenn
      @cchristinechenn 7 років тому +3

      Rida Muneer The rolling is a wrist vibrato, the other is arm vibrato. Wrist vibrato is much easier

    I've been playing the violin for a decade or so now and despite a degree in music (classical guitar) vibrato on the violin has always been the proverbial albatross around my neck so to speak. It doesn't come naturally to me despite the advanced level on the guitar, which helped me with the violin in many other areas. Thank you so much for your video as after only a few weeks of practicing your steps each day I've really noticed some profound improvements and can only guess that in a few months I may be able to employ 'vibrato' in my playing of pieces and not just as an exercise, improving though I am. Your help in this area is a real Godsend and I'll be forever grateful to you for your video and your time. Thank you.

I also wanna say thank you for making this video, it really helps me a lot of the past week of doing this and I am getting better bit by bit so thank you so much for this!! ❤️

    I was despairing of ever learning vibrato until I watched this video. keeping the thumb stationary and sort of pinching the violin between thumb and finger with the waving motion really helped me out.

    My teacher, came up with a invention to practice with. Get a Film Container. Remember those little black plastic tube things you put a roll of film in from a camera? Get one of those, and put a couple coins in it and put the lid on. Hold the container like you holding your instrument. Wave to yourself and make the coins pop each end of the tube. You can do this anytime doing anything. Watch tv and pop the coins. You are teaching your wrist muscle memory as you watch tv :) That little invention taught MANY MANY students the basic motion needed. It also forced you to perform that motion with exaggerated "force" as you pop the coins because the force needed to use vibrato is way less than the force needed to pop those coins. When you apply the finger/string part, your wrist already has a strong motion and the right muscle memory, it actually made the finger/string part almost a no brainer :) She didn't even explain the whole finger on the string part, she just said get a film case and do that, thats your homework :)

    The problem I've discovered is that my elbow was not placed properly under the violin. I had it sticking out a little to the left. I now place it under the violin and a little to the right. I read that information in the book entitled, "A Tune A Day." It was not a vibrato lesson in book one, but it was a lesson about how to properly hold the violin. Get that elbow under the violin and to the right. Look at this professor's elbow. That was a big part of my problem. Good luck.

    Adorable Brilliant Creative Down-to-earth Elegant Funny Great ...Huneven...I could go on to z and start over but I leave room for other awed students of whom there shall be millions (Khan Academy for starters!). You are the best!!!! I gave up violin looong ago because there were no teachers where I lived and couldn't get across this vibrato thing by myself so I smashed my violin and gave up but I never stopped dreaming. Thank God for you. I will make it this time.
