You can buy the dye. It’s called Railroad Worm. Or something like that. But on its own, it’s almost invisible. Which is really weird. (And useless). I see it’s in Gunpowder Tea and Sunburst.
I'm so glad it was helpful to see it swatched! If you decide to pick the ink up, let me know how you like it with your pen. I do think both the pen and ink shades would work nicely together.
I agree, though the main reason the Endless Regalia didn't work for me is its absorbency. I am apparently just too slow between eye-droppering the ink and swirling it, so the Regalia just soaked up soooo much by the time I got to actually swatch the ink. A bummer, but it does a solid job as an everyday journal. Thanks so much for watching!
Love all the inks. 😍 The Saltmarsh and Ploughmans Pebble have a property that makes the color change depending on the light its in. The Sugar kelp does seem different. Pennsylvania Fieldstone was my first ink from them. You picked some fantastic colors.
The Sugar Kelp looked like Birmingham Gunpowder Tea, which is discontinued. I only had a tiny sample of it and I miss it, so I was practicing to make it myself. Now I could buy it if I want! Also love the Milton Tin, Armadillo and Ploughman’s Pebble, in your swatches.
Looking at swatches from MoutainofInk, it does look quite similar, so I'd definitely give it a try. It's grown on me quite a lot, and it dries down to a really great shade. Thanks so much for watching!!
This video made me subscribe, such beautiful colors! I have been looking for some muted colors and to find something different to use in my Astronomy/Telescope learning TRP journal and my other personal TRP journals for 2024. I stumbled across your channel and this was the first video I seen. Perfect palette with the muted tones. After watching this video twice, I just had to purchase a few of these inks. I purchased inks in Armadillo, Burlap, Saltmarsh, Ploughman's Pebble, Molten Tin, and I threw in the Eroded Bronze, and Chrysan Themum inks as well... Thank you this video, for swatching these inks. I can't wait receive them and use them in my journals...
I am so happy my video was helpful! I'm really loving the Birmingham inks I ordered, and I already have another cart full of colors I want to try next. They've really been marvelously well behaved for me. Of the ones you mentioned, I'm currently obsessed with Molten Tin, which I just inked my Traveler's Pen with. It's such a beautiful slate color. If you get the chance, let me know how you like the inks (especially Chrysanthemum, which is in my cart 😉) Thank you for watching!!
@@snarkywordsworth I liked Molten Tin as well, it was more purple in my EF TSWBI 700 Vac Mini... but I gravitate to those colors... Crysan Themum is a beautiful color it starts out with a gray shade and dries to a dusty pink with a gray outline (gorgeous!) it’s a favorite, but it was a bit dry in my Pilot Custom Heritage 92 F/M nib. I put a tiny bit of Dawn dish detergent in a vial and it worked better. I had the same reaction with Armadillo; its gray in my Lamy 2000 with a pink outline (I love it too), it’s been an everyday ink for me since I inked my 2000 up. Eroded Bronze is a flat blue with a purple and pink chromoshading... I was really happy with Burlap, it’s a light brown but readable. I love how Burlap dries with a darker brown outline in my writing. I’m currently using it in my TWSBI Mini Rose Gold/White with an nib... I have yet to write with Saltmarsh and Poughmans Pebble in a pen other than swatching it; but I will be getting it into a pen soon. The wait for the inks was a bit long but it was worth the wait for these colors and I will be ordering more in the future... I love these muted colors!
Birmingham inks have been really impressing me recently in reviews. They're actually right around the corner from where I live. I'm definitely gonna give some of their inks a try. Butcher's Broom and Twilight are a couple that really stand out to me. Maybe you'd like those too. Thanks for the presentation!
Those are both gorgeous shades! I really love the Butcher's Broom - I haven't seen it pop un in reviews too much, so that'll be a fun inksploration. I'll have to add them both to my list. I've got a cartful that I'm waffling on at the moment - I'm so indecisive - but one I'm pretty sure I want to try is Terracotta. Thanks so much for watching and subscribing!
It's also a really fantastic colors. I've been using it more and more as time goes by - just a really well-behaved and beautiful shade. Thanks for watching!!
Love Birmingham Pen Company! I am always so impressed by their packaging! They always get up to Alaska perfectly safe and I am always excited to get the nib shaped paper clip! Just found your channel recently and I really enjoyed your review of these inks. Thanks a lot!
I really was so pleased the moment I opened the package! It really was just like opening a present to myself, plus it's comforting to know how safely they'll package orders in the future, too. Thank you so much for watching my channel!
Ok, so I just ordered Jupiter Vortex Twinkle and it is strikingly similar to Sugar Kelp. Exactly what you described when you clean it the water turns the color of antifreeze. The deep green sheen is gorgeous, but I will say that the Twinkle formula is a little high maintenance. Beautiful picks!
I am so sorry to have missed your comment! Sugar Kelp has really been growing on me, and I think your Jupiter Vortex Twinkle sound pretty fascinating. Thanks so much for watching!
Great ink selections. Thank you for showing how they look on Tomoe River paper. I’d love to purchase more inks from BPC (I currently have only one), but they’ve got too many beautiful inks! I can’t decide. 😩
I hear you! I have a BPC wishlist that's getting a little out of hand at this point, and people keep recommending even more colors so it gets longer and longer. 😅🤣
It's definitely grown on me as I got to see it fully dry down. It's still much more neon-leaning than I was expecting but an interesting color that I could see myself using sometimes. Thank you for watching!
I like the regalis in the note block for jotting things down. I haven't used it as a notebook yet. Tomoe River is odd. I like it in my Hobonichi for riting but they show colours very differently. I'm more partial to heaver paper for swatching, but I swwatch on the 3 sorts of paper I use just so I know.
I've switched to using the regalia for just basic journaling, and I'm really enjoying the paper that way. It really shows off some of the ink characteristics so well, and I love how my pages end up looking. Sadly, I think the pace at which I swatch inks is definitely a little too slow for the regalia paper, just because it has a tendency to absorb the ink much faster (which is why I think I had a bit of a feathering issue with some of the inks when I used it). I've always really enjoyed TR, so I'm not surprised that I ended up switching back so quickly, but I definitely understand how it's not the best writing experience for someone who prefers a heavier paper. Thank you so much for watching!!
Have you swatched BPC Sugar Kelp as yet. I like it very much but I am still looking for a dupe of Krishna's Cassia Flora. Thank you! Please let know! Lisa ❤
The swatch in this video is the only one I've done for Sugar Kelp so far. Did you need something in particular with that ink? I'm happy to help however I can.
@@snarkywordsworthYes, I think I love it, but it does seem to vary pretty dramatically in its coloring. Perhaps different batches. I just think I need to go ahead and spring for a bottle sometime soon. It will be gorgeous for Autumn! Thank you dear! L
@@snarkywordsworth I'm trying to find a dupe for the currently discontinued Krishna Cassia Flora. The BRCo website shows a swatch that looks pretty close to Cassia Flora. Then there's your swatch, which I also love that doesn't look at all like Cassia Flora at all. I'm a little obsessed I guess. I think I have asked Liane about my conumdrum. Pretty sure I haven't heard back from her. Or, it could have been Dandelion Diaries or Seemownay. I don't remember. Any thoughts on a great dupe for Krishna's Cassia Flora? Thanks so much! Lisa
Would you be able to tell me the tool you use to make the circle? And what pen are you using? I am new to Birmingham pen Co and love their ink colors!!
To make my swatch circles, I just use an old, blank sealing wax head. I like the control the handle offers, plus I already had it and wasn't really using it for anything else anymore. 😅 You can find them all over the internet, but I'm pretty sure I got mine at Michaels years ago. And I just recently started using the Kakimori dip pen, but I'm really loving it and all the variation in line thickness it offers. Hope this helps, and thank you so much for watching!!
Genius to use a wax seal! I have a few of the blank ones so that's a good option. I use a round acrylic block but also recently found dotting tools at Michaels to try. It's nice to have a few options and different samples. I love that Burlap colour!!!@@snarkywordsworth
@@StampedAF I'd been trying out a ton of different ways to spread the ink in swatches, but I wasn't really enamored with any of them until I remembered by seal blank. Just thinking as I watch you swatch - I am wondering if you did the lines first, maybe the nib wouldn't drop so much ink on first letter of the colour name. I had this problem in my swatches as well with the nib flooding the first letter.
That is such a good idea! I've been enjoying the Kakimori nib, which is pretty new to me (I've only had it for a couple months), but the blobbing really has been kind of frustrating. Another YTber had suggested sliding the nib around the rim of the bottle a few times before using it, but as you can see...it didn't really work for me. 😅I'll try and give your suggestion a shot the next go around.
All the swatches looked MUCH better on TR paper, imo! Glad you ended up swatching them on that paper too :)
Thank you for watching! Any yeah, I'm definitely happy to have switched back to a TR notebook for swatching purposes.
Many of their colors turn the water bright neon green. It must be one of the dyes that they use. Often this shows up on saturated colors.
That is so interesting! I'll definitely be buying more from them, so I'll be excited to see which ones also go the neon route. 😄 Thanks for watching!
