The carb "issue" was actually a fuel tank issue. It wasn't venting and was pressurising the fuel system enough to push out one of the carbs!
noooby100 that a common issue with these bikes. Just bought an 87' Cagiva 650 and the carbs need balancing. How did you figure out it was your tank?
