Removing Rust via Electrolysis - Classic Mini

  • Removing rust via Electrolysis works well. As with most methods (Vinegar & most rust removers), Electrolysis does require a nice rub down of the part(s). Cleaning out the engine block of my classic mini is definitely a bit of a task, but well worth it. I want to know that I've done everything possible to clean my 1275 engine block. Reaching those deep cavities within the coolant areas is the hardest part, thus Electrolysis to help.. Lone Star Mini

      In truth, it's the WD40 sprayed on it that makes it look so clean and 'pretty' as the dry bare metal looks ugly. I think it's a job well done and I'm happy with it.

      Hey Now Brian, thank you. I am satisfied with the clean, but now I have to figure out how to keep it from rusting because it will be a year before I put it all back together.

    Randy, What a difference in the condition of the block from start to finish, With Evans waterless coolant in the system the rust will not come
    back as long as the stripped block is dry while it‘s stored. Cheers Dave

      Yep.. I will definitely being going with Evans.. it irritates me knowing how easy it is for rust to develop.

      well.. you guys can acid dip it which is what I would have done. Not having access to acid baths, I had to do it all myself. I am pleased with it though..

  • @denniswellard
    @denniswellard 3 роки тому +1

    Great idea Randy, why didn't you get it acid washed?

    • @LoneStarMini
      @LoneStarMini  3 роки тому

      Thanks Dennis, While we don't have the 'acid' baths (illegal) any longer here in the USA, the performance shops do have a chemical bath process. First, I wanted to try a couple methods (vinegar & electrolysis) for my own awareness, but I also knew I would have to scrub a little and I'm not confident any performance center would give the detail to my block as I would. With that said, I will have some machine work done to the engine (dry decking and possibly reworking the cylinder to 1380 if it needs it). At that time, I will allow them to put it through a chemical bath.. therefore my block with hopefully see proper cleaning. Hey.. my daughter is heading your direction for a study abroad program...
