I love the idea of always giving a smile. My son started middle school this year. He was telling me about his new favourite teacher. When I asked him what he liked about her he said she was always smiling. I loved that!
Now that made me smile. Love it! ((HUGS))
Thank you Mrs. May for taking your summer day off to pre-teach, teach , and reteach teachers. I’m grateful.
You are so very welcome. ((HUGS))
I stand at the door and greet them everyday because I want them to know that everyday is a new day....no matter what happened the day before.
Amen! The whole point.😉 ((HUGS))
Spot on right! As teachers we can never assume that the students will know.
Yes! I teach Kindergarten and have to explicitly teaching every little thing. I remember my first year, I didn’t model how to use the water fountain and they started scooping the water with their hand.
LOL
This is a great example. ((HUGS))
@steph108
I taught Kindergarten for 10 years and absolutely loved it. But boy oh boy I learned so much from them! I remember my first day of teaching Kindergarten I had them put their lunch boxes on a shelf in the classroom. Well a couple of them decided to just get out of their seat, walk to their lunchbox, open it up and start eating their lunch and snack!! So after school that day I went and bought a “snack” basket, emailed the parents and asked them to write their child’s name on the snack bag/container, and then I taught them how to place the snack in the basket in the morning and I made sure the lunchboxes were placed up high on another shelf.
Best of luck to you this school year
I agree with you "it is important to greet people with eye contact and a smile", what an important advice. Thanks🙏🙏❤
I’m so thankful I came across your videos!! These are blessing me!❤
Kudos to you Ms. May! You are absolutely right, as a teacher you have to TEACH GOOD BEHAVIOR AND RESPECT in your classroom (regardless of age). It just doesn't pop up out of thin air on its own. It has to be taught. As a SPED Teacher, I know repetition is the key, until kids get it. Having structure and great classroom management skills is just as essential as teaching the academic skills. If you have high expectations for your class, the children's progress will reflect it, if you have low expectations, then the children's progress will reflect it as well. It's not about race, class, or demographics, it's about caring as a human being first. Yes, this is God's work Ms. May.❤
Thank you so much for watching and for these amazing, kind words. ((HUGS))
@@OneFABTeacher Thank you for your kind words also. I believe we should encourage and support one another.😊
As a first year first grade teacher I am very grateful for your insights and advice on how to go about the first day/ week in a classroom. Of course , I have a wonderful and supportive team to help me to navigate through being efficient and streamline the establishment of the procedures etc. however, hearing it from yet another experienced and passioned educator is a huge bonus. Thank you and God bless you for your work.
Awwwww, I appreciate your sweet words. ((HUGS))
Miss May, I wish my principal would show this video on our opening PD day! We are required to stand at posts during arrival and some at our door. Since in kinder some of the rooms are right next to each other we try and receive all scholars entering. We refer to them as champions and PAX leaders and we know that we are their best hope for a successful day. We can also let each other know that so and so was crying as they entered the building or so and so kicked the locker as they came around the corner. However, some teachers are resentful that they have to greet the kiddos. I say It takes a village! Thanks again Miss May!
Maybe you can share the link to this video to him. Possibly give the suggestion that way. Thank you fro your sweet words. ((HUGS))
@@OneFABTeacher ok.. I think I will! I will let you know:)
So grateful for you sharing all rhis content. You are so sincere about having a passion for children.
Hello teacher and sister in Christ. I want to give an Amen to what you said about that we are doing God’s work, taken care of our little ones. Thank you so much I just found your channel today and I wanna tell you, you are so beautiful. Thank you so much fellow teacher from Central, Florida.
Hello sister in Christ. Thank you for your kind words. Sending you lots of ((HUGS))
You just radiate kindness Mrs May! Thank you for bringing your knowledge and care to us 🤍 I hope to become a great teacher like you!
Thank you so much and you are so welcome. You will be an AMAZING teacher! ((HUGS))
I'm just a few minutes in and I want to applaud you. As a teacher educator, the "training" that students need is what I emphasize, in every course and even implement in my college courses so that my students see it in action. When I taught, I called it "bootcamp" and we practiced routines and procedures for six weeks. My parents knew about it, too. My students were given the leeway to learn and apply their learning during that time and it never failed that by the end of that six weeks, they had everything down pat.
The morning tone is critical. I was always at the door as well (which is why I stayed late everyday to make sure my class was ready to receive students the next day.) Every principal that I had also expected us to be at the door. Finally, once my students entered the classroom, they happily began what I called "The Work Sequence". They prided themselves on flowing from one things to the next on their own. I had a bulletin board with each step outlined with words and pics. Oh, how I miss the little ones.💝
I can tell that you are so loving, so nuturing. Our children need that.
Thank you so much for watching. I agree so much with the morning tone is critical. It truly is. ((HUGS))
Thank you for this reminder! I teach first grade as well. Many of our students coming into our classroom this upcoming school-year have never stepped a foot in a classroom due to virtual learning. We have to be patient and teach them our expectations and procedures! I LOVE THIS! ❤️
You are so welcome. Yes, we have to be patient. Eventually, they will get it. ((HUGS))
Wow I love this. So many kids do not speak to adults when they enter a room or respond to greetings. Powerful
Ms. May, I so agree with you!!! In my school it varies with the empathy and positivity... it is so sad.... I am so glad another educator is picking up on it.
Empathy and positivity has always been first in my teaching. It's so very important. Thank you for watching. ((HUGS))
@@OneFABTeacher Always Ms. May!!!
Greetings are so important! Thank you for this video!
Hello! Thank you for watching! ((Hugs))
Ms. May-you need to be a national speaker. Teachers would be lined up out the door to hear you speak
Awwww, thank you so much. You never know. 😉 ((Hugs))
I had no idea you were in Houston!! My principal just asked me to teach 1st grade next year. I've never taught 1st and I immediately looked you up. I'm a veteran teacher (25 plus years) and have taught everything except Kinder and 1st. I think I'm about to become a One Fab Teacher disciple!!! I'm in Houston, also! Sending you a huge thank you for all the content! I'm loving it!
Aww Miss May! I don’t even teach any more but I will always watch your videos because I just adore you! 🥰
Awwwwww, THANK YOU so much! ((HUGS))😘
I think your students are blessed to have you as their teacher. Thank you for sharing. I look forward to more of your videos!
Thank you so much. ((Hugs))
35 year teacher here, and I love your channel. I learn so much from you, fab girl!
Well this means a lot coming from a teacher of 35 years! I appreciate you and THANK YOU! ((HUGS))
@@OneFABTeacher We never stop learning, growing, sharing, and improving! God bless you with a great school year. Mine’s starting out really well. ❤️📚✏️🎶
Hello Mrs. May! I'm a new subscriber. This school year is my first time to teach Kindergarten. I just want to say that your videos are such a big help to me. I am learning a lot from you. You are awesome!
Thank you so much! Have a FABULOUS school year! ((HUGS))
Having just finished my 2nd year of teaching and my first year teaching 2nd grade, I am so grateful to have seen this video. I wish I had seen this last year. I know what it feels like having to teach something over and over deep into the school year and still feeling that my kids didn't get it. But you are absolutely right, I figured they would get it because I told them as opposed to showing them. This video has blessed my spirit and made me feel more optimistic about this upcoming year.
YAY! Have an amazing upcoming school year!!! Many ((HUGS))
Great video. Thanks for the tips. I'm an Instructional Aide for STEM but I have a whole classroom to myself and I see Pre-K through 5th every week.
Thank you for these reminders/tips. Lol I think I forgot how to teach in-person lol. In-service starts July 13th. I need to review and adjust my management model.
You got this! ((HUGS))
@@OneFABTeacher I just finished for the first 3 days of school. It all came back naturally! I remembered how to teach lol
Thank you so much. We have a tendency to forget to show some love and some empathy.
Yes, you are so right. ((HUGS))
Thank you so much for posting this and modeling it for us. I still have a year left of schooling to go before I become a teacher and the first day of school is something I've been stressing about. My student teaching takes place in the Spring so the students will already have the routines and procedures down by the time I get there. Getting an idea of what the first day will actually LOOK like helps my anxiety around that first day. I can't wait!
You are so welcome and I can tell you are so excited through your words. Just what this field needs, excited teachers. ((HUGS))
Thank you so much! We will do this tomorrow. It’s my third year teaching 2nd grade. You’ve been so helpful!
Yay! So glad to help. ((HUGS))
I thank TMH for sending me this channel. I just started working at a school last week as a first year teacher. I'm glad He sent me this video.
❤agree! Love it! I tell them to choose, coming in...fist, high five or hug.

I'm so happy I found your channel. 1st year teacher and I've been watching videos to get an idea on how to start my first weeks in the classroom. This is the 1st channel that goes straight for the information and does not waste half of my time talking about irrelevant things.
Wow! Thank you so very much!! Many ((Hugs))
Thank you for sharing this very crucial part of the day.
Yes I love this video! I’m super excited because I graduated in December and will be teaching this August. I’m a little nervous because it’ll be my first year but thrilled to finally have my own students and classroom. Your videos are so helpful so I’ll continue to look forward to them :)

Thanks Miss May!! So true!! Always assume they know NOTHING the first week!☀️😉
Yes!!!!! Many ((Hugs)) sweet friend!
Thank you, Mrs. May for this helpful reminder. Due to Covid, this year door greetings was non exist. As Teachers we need to set the tone and expectation of what we want to see. If we don't it is a whole big mess.
We must set that tone. It’s so crucial and important. Our students vibe off their teachers. ((Hugs))
I just found your channel Ms. May and I love you! I’m going to be starting my student teaching next month and I’m so excited, but also overwhelmed. I love your style and the way you speak. you help me feel way more relaxed about teaching. thanks for being you ❤️❤️❤️

Thank you, Miss May!!
You are so welcome sunshine! ((Hugs))
Thank you for this essential and informative video. Procedures and routine will be highly needed this year because there are many students out there who have not set foot inside a physical classroom for almost two years. I enjoyed hearing about how you ask your students what they think that their job is for the year. Take care.
Thank you for watching. Have a blessed school year. ((Hugs))

Mrs May! You’re such an amazing teacher and person ❤️. I honestly admire you a lot, I’m getting ready to follow your methodology this year. I’m a kindergarten teacher, and I really feel what you said: I’m here for a purpose, and doing a God’s job, teaching kids 🙌🏻 ❤️
Thank you so much for your sweet words. God is the reason! That's what helps me keep going. Have a BLESSED and amazing school year! ((Hugs))
My dominant color is green... I am made up of no blue whatsoever. After green, I'm orange. So I'm focused only on academics, and at times can be wreckless and/or random. You're probably blue and gold. I really like your videos!
Thank you for watching. ((HUGS))
Thank you for this helpful video . I am teacher also and I need it.
Please I have one problem with my kids students that they talk to me without take permission or rise their hands. I tell them to rise their hands but they forget every time.
Model for them what your expectations are. Be very specific. Have them practice, practice, practice. ((Hugs))
Thank you for the bubble gum party today🎉❤
This was great advice..even for a high school teacher! Also, completely off topic, but could you share where you found your hoops? They are exactly what I've been looking for.
Thank you for watching. My hoops are from Target. ((Hugs))
I teach art in a middle school afterschool setting and it's going to be my first time back in person! Of course I have to modify for older kids but your videos are really a blessing! May God bless you because you're truly doing God's work! Thank you for your positive energy.
Thank you so much. I appreciate your words. Have a blessed school year! ((HUGS))😉
“That’s just. It fair….that’s just not fair” ❤️
((HUGS))
Your videos have helped me so much! I truly appreciate what you do here on UA-cam. Can you do more? I’d love to know what you expect them to do once they enter the classroom and how you teach that.
More to come! I PROMISE! Yes, I can do a video for that. Thank you for watching. ((HUGS))
This is such a great vlog!! Good classroom management is everything!!!! Without it, your class will not be successful!!
Amen ((HUGS))
Thank you so much for your video! The threshold is so important to starting your class off right! I have a question: How would you handle a student who just refuses to acknowledge you or even talk to you? Theres a longer story, but this child doesn't talk to any teacher really and if she does its only to use the restroom or if she keeps getting bothered. I talked to the parent and admin about it and there was no help at all. I'm honestly concerned about this child.
You're the best Mrs. May! I am going to use some of these tips for my greetings too.
AWESOME! Have a FABULOUS school year! ((HUGS))
It took me a whole month to get down my classroom management. I look forward to getting back into my own classroom eventually. I incorporated sign language that made my life easier because all of my students were ESL learners.
It takes work, but so worth it in the end. Have a blessed school year. ((Hugs))
Especially after coming back from the Covid season this video is so important! Thank you for sharing 😊
You are so welcome. ((HUGS))
Love this but also love your side table lamps 😍
Thank you!! 😊 They're from Target a few years ago. ((HUGS))
Thank you so much 🥰💖 god's work Have a wonderful day 💖
You are so welcome. ((HUGS))
Miss. May, I sure love you! Your videos are I helpful and I can tell that you love your kids. Thank you for sharing your wisdom with us!😘
Love you back!!! Thank you for your sweet words. ((Hugs))😘
Great advice for any level. I teach high school and still need to teach students my expectations. The first 10 days are so important.
Absolutely! ((HUGS))
This was SO helpful!! Thank you for your way of helping teachers...such a blessing! Would you be willing to do a "Top 10" (or 20? Lol) Procedures to go over that first week?!? That would be so helpful to new teachers.... thank you!!! I pray God will continue to bless us!
Just posted one for the top 10 for the first day of school. ((HUGS))
As always amazing advice and I agree completely. Pretty sore we are kindred teacher spirits! Lol this year I am planning on putting up a picture chart where kids can choose their greeting. I always am mindful but I’m a hugger and teach preschoolers but I want them to choose what they are comfortable with. Most of my students are huggers but some are not. I love the idea of lining them up to physically practice it each day the first week!
Awww, I couldn't agree more. I love the idea of a visual for them they can choose. I'm such a hugger! LOL Thank you so much for watching. ((HUGS))
Uaaau! You are the best inspiration for teachers. Love your videos! God bless you always.❤️
Wow, thank you! ((HUGS))
