I'm so amazed to your primitive skills. You start from the axe 🪓 that is made of stone with the handle of wood. Everything you are using now from tools to shelter to a gear and a powerd by water machine that is made from wood including nails and bricks and Everything in your farm are all made by you incredible effort you have very skillful. I witnessed all of that from the start of your vlog. I know you will show us more from upcoming videos that you will do. I can't wait to see more of your videos. Thank you. You are helping me to overcome my anxiety depression God bless you and your family.

@Primitive Skills: A little cooking oil, grease, or wax on the gears and the spinning friction surfaces where the shafts go through the frame, will make them turn smoother and easier.
When you separate enough seeds, you could also press out cotton seed oil from the seeds. Cotton seed oil can be used for cooking, lubrication, and/or lamp oil.
A simple oil lamp would be another good project for you. You now have cotton; cotton makes an excellent wick for oil lamps and candles.

Since you feed them in the same place of the pond, couldn’t you make some floating barriers to keep the leftover food from the fish in one small area? I enjoy watching you on your farm it is so peaceful

I think your bamboo raft works very well, perhaps just reinforcing it would be enough. And bamboo grows back much more quickly than trees, so building out of bamboo whenever you can is a better use of your resources.
Since raptors swoop down from above to hunt, your chicks could do with a roof. Perhaps weave a large bamboo enclosure for them, with walls, a door, and a roof with a very open weave to let in lots of air and light. But no floor. You could put it in different parts of your garden on different days, so your chicks can forage for seeds and bugs, and poop on your garden, but be protected from above. Another option is to keep the hen near you as you work, because I think the raptor will be too afraid of you to come close. But that won't help when you need to go to the forest, or home to edit and upload your videos.
Has your family given you any advice about what happened to your upland rice crop?

Perhaps to avoid the attack of winged predators you could make a fence all around the farmyard and build a roof over it. This way you would hide the chickens from birds of prey view (at least from above). Unfortunately, other predators could arrive, such as foxes or weasels, in which case the roof would be of little use. Only very resistant and tight-meshed cages could protect them.

Quite the carving skills you have to do those roller ends and have them actually work. Your cotton gin looks just like pics I saw from museums. The cotton then has to be combed and spun into yarn/thread. You will need a drop spindle or spinning wheel of some sort. From there you have many options to make clothing. Knitting is pretty straightforward and gives a nice stretchy material. Crochet makes a heavier, non stretch fabric. There are many simple weaving methods, as well. I enjoy the fiber arts.

And your place is in such good order, which inspires me to improve my own cluttered home. You've stored the wood so well, with the palm leaf roof to keep the rain off it.

Hey Duong!! I'm from Brazil, I follow your project for a long time and I love what you do, please don't stop!!
You've been asking us for tips and feedback, and here are some of the things I've got:
-Do you like mushrooms? Your region looks pretty humid, is it good for growing mushrooms on tree trunks? would you do it for us?
-I have noticed that you spend a lot of time with fish food and that part of it ends up floating in the lake. If the food is shredded, would these leftovers run out? With this in mind, it would be interesting for you to build a food crusher, just as you have a food crusher to make flour, you could make something to grind grass and leaves into smaller pieces for animals and fish, making you have less time spent on chopping them with the knife and less leftovers.
-An idea for fertilizers: create a compost bin with organic materials, so creating fertilizer for the plantation would be faster?
-Kitchen renovation project, make bamboo walls create a wind shelter in cold days?
-Use the area just in front of the house door, where there is this "hole" before the lake, could you create a small rice paddy in the water? just like you did a long time ago.
-Traps for predators, urgent!! At the same time, create a fenced-in chicken coop for all the chickens.

@Primitive Skills: Go down to the river, collect the living aquatic plants the fish normally eat, and transplant them to your pond. That way, your fish food will replenish itself. Living plants in your pond have additional benefits. Increased oxygen levels, lower excessive nutrients, lower algae content. and clearer water.

You should make some more garden tools. A long handled wooden rake and a long handled wooden pitchfork would be handy in the garden, cleaning up after cutting weeds and with collecting that debris off your fish pond.
You also need to create a composting area. You cut and prune a lot of plant material that can be composted and used back in your garden. I still would like to see you create some banana circles. You can use a lot of this debris in those.

It is good to see you my friend, I wish you good health and good luck in your life. Some sort of fence would be good to protect the chick's until they grow older, but not restrictive in weeding around the pond or access to the pond for you. Are the chicks in danger from birds or snakes? You probably should clean the pond weekly of the uneaten vegetation.

I reccomens just weaving more of the bamboo or branches together and making a simple roof over the area. It will keep the hawks from reaching them easily. The Other option is to build more hiding spaces for them.

  • @dazedconfused5019
    @dazedconfused5019 Рік тому

I did read some of the comments also, and the chicken tractor comment stood out; among others. If you put the chicken coupe along with a surrounding fence the chicken poo will fertilizer the garden area. You will move the coupe and fence to another portion of the garden to fertilize another area; and keep going. This is normally done with tires and a tractor. You must think "Flintstone" since tires are not primitive. You can use a large bamboo tree's logs for 2 wheels that are the width of the left and right side of the coupe. Put smaller poles for dowels through a hole going through to the end of the log to turn the wheels. Mount the coupe on the dowels. Build the fence in parts so that you can attach and remove it when and where needed. Is one of your 9 chicks missing? Where are the rest of your chickens? I think the raft is better, it need maintenance. It has lasted so well sitting in water, it still looks good.

I'll say it again. You should make a fenced in area around the garden and a henhouse there, closer to your house and the kitchen. That will protect the chicks and help scare off the predators. The chickens will also work the soil in the garden and eat the weeds there. It means less work for you.
As for the cotton gin, there's 2 problems. 1, damp seeds as you know. 2. Your technique. Stretch the cotton out a bit when you start feeding it in to the gin and continue pulling it out a bit. That will help the rollers push the seeds out. If you're still having troubles, the space between your rollers may be too large, as the rollers should grab and pull the cotton fibers through.

To make roofing timber find and cut trees with straight grain (not twisted) and thinner sections should be easier to split off.. In the USA they seem to use pine trees and usually these ones for splitting have the bark removed first - cut the trunks into sections desired for the length of the "tiles"
Keep the young chicks nearer to the rooms and make their roost able to be secured at night and also with a place for the hens and roosters to keep an eye out for predators too (cats and rats etc)... Best wishes for you, your wife and delightful children. Peace Love and Light

A wooden boat for the pond would be a good idea, much more stable than the raft. You should also build a rake to make it easier to clean the pond. As for the chickens, you definitely won't be able to allow them to free range anymore. Building a roofed fence, as some other commentator suggested, would also be required. What happened to the other chickens that were babies when you first brought the hen to your farm?

    Oi Duong, bom dia!

@Primitive Skills: A series of loosely/open weave, square or rectangular panel/screens laid flat (horizontal to the ground) and raised on one-foot legs will provide raptor shelter for the chickens. It is what we do where I live. They are light weight and easily moved to different areas as needed. These "roofs" are open sided, and the chickens can come and go as they please. The panels simply provide overhead protection. When the chickens sense a predator, they run underneath these panels until the danger is gone.
Approximately 244cm x 122cm is a good size that is light weight and easy to move around.

Catch minnows and other fish that stay small and put them in your pond. They are awesome feeders for the fish and they will grow big leaving you more time for other chores.
When my hens have babies I keep them in an inclosure until they they get most of their adult feathers. The hawks are less likely to grab them.

Yes "yakisugi" is a good process to stabilize wood in water or in wet area. I thouk the same thing :)

Hi Duong, I think your rafts work really well, lots of space to collect the fish food debris. I think making a boat may be a waste of your time and effort. Perhaps work on some tools to manoeuvre the raft and collect the waste.

If you want to make a Wooden Boat, or protect your wooden machines (Manjolo, water wheel); there is a way to make a sealant from tree sap, by boiling it to condense the resin. Brush onto your wooden tools and machines to seal them against moisture/rot.

Merry Christmas, I am praying for a bountiful year for you and yours. Be careful, be safe, and stay happy. 💝💝💝💝 Just build a second raft on the old one this will give you more stability, I think. Cute baby chicks, congrats on their hatching. Nails with their points out on a board can be used like a comb to separate the seeds and comb the cotton as sheep herders do with wool, maybe. Hope this is a good suggestion.

Make a rectangular or square floating fish feeder from four bamboos. So that the remains of plants do not float in the lake.
