You should start an "indie month" wherein you react to the individual albums of Sonu Nigam, Shaan, Lucky Ali, and groups like Bombay Vikings, Bombay Rockers, Sanam. This is what revolutionized pop music in the 2000s.
Ab ke Saawan has a great sentimental value for 90s kids.. Its THE Rain song for us. Also, Shubha Mudgal, a classical veteran, doing a quasi-rock song about rains totally knocked our boots off!!! Not to mention the amazing video by Pradeep Sarkar, who made films like Parineeta and Mardaani.
It was even surprising for us when the song came out because the singer Shubha Muggal is a renowned Classical singer so we never expected her to sing such a peppy high tempo song.... 90s pop songs were a rage. It's heartbreaking to see the kind of songs produced these days.
@@tinatuna7620 its simple earlier these artist used to get money to make a video, which was on TV daya and night. Now there is no money... so they upload the content on youtube... which does not give the same image as TV used to give.
Oh I am so happy you reacted to this! SHubha Mudgal is a very very accomplished and respected classical singer. She has also sang some more songs, some melancholy and sad too. I love her "Man ke Manjeere" and "Jheel" from her album "Man ke Manjeere". "Man ke Manjeere" is another powerful song. She has also sung a very powerful rendition of Vande Mataram, you should really listen to that. You should also listen to some of her pure classical, she is magic.
In a tropical country like India, after scorching deadly summers; monsoon is the most awaited things by common people, farmers, etc. (since we are naturally agrarian country, monsoon has deep meaning to us, for crop production due to which we have many harvest festivals as well). So its a sigh of peace, relief and tranquility, especially the divine smell of soil from the first rain of monsoon is just 😍😌. Thus the importance of rain in our lives.
The Singer is a trained and regularly performing Hindustani Classical Trained singer and her name is Ms. Shubha Mudgal and she is amazing and this is her one and only foray into pop music.
Its sad to see that literally no one mentioned the music composer who composed this brilliant album. Shantanu Moitra is a heavily heavily underrated music composer with one of the best songs in existence. Parineeta, 3 Idiots and PK are some of his famous albums but people rarely know about him.
In Indian literature, particularly in Sanskrit and Hindi, "Rasa" (or simply ras) refers to the emotional essence or aesthetic pleasure derived from a work of art. There are nine recognized types of Rasa, known as the "Navarasa": 1. Shringar (शृंगार): Love, beauty, and sensuality 2. Hasya (हास्य): Humor, laughter, and comedy 3. Karuna (करुणा): Compassion, pity, and tragedy 4. Raudra (रौद्र): Anger, fury, and horror 5. Veer (वीर): Courage, heroism, and valor 6. Bhayanak (भयानक): Fear, anxiety, and terror 7. Bibhatsa (बीभत्स): Disgust, aversion, and repulsion 8. Adbhut (अद्भुत): Wonder, astonishment, and awe 9. Shant (शांत): Peace, tranquility, and serenity These Rasas are used to evoke emotions in the audience and create a deeper connection with the artwork. They are often used in various forms of Indian art, literature, music, and dance. This song is unique because it is breaking the concept mentioned above. This song should be an example of Shringar ras but it is definitely presented in the form of Veer ras.
This was such a break from the norm for a monsoon song and for Shubha Mudgal too, cause she broke the mould of a classical singer and successfully made entry into indie pop / rock genre! A rare feat for a classical based singer! Glad you enjoyed it!
The timber of her voice...and the riffs that she has taken, you need to have learned ears to catch the nuances of it!! Bought back some childhood memories!!
For reference, What you like about Kaushiki Chakroborty (classical vocalist). Shubha Mudgal Ji has been doing the same from the late 70's, 80's and 90's. Honoured with Padma Shri (High Civilian Award) and has a very high status as a classical singer and musician.
She's a great classical singer... her songs in Ajay Dewgun n Aishwarya Rai starrer classical film Raincoat... are beautiful... but lyrics make a lot of sense and one needs to know the refrences.
Oh man, this one's from my childhood. The video quality hasn't aged well, but other than that, the song sounded just as good today as it was back in the 90s. What a fabulous song. I'm glad you guys liked it!

The 90s had the best independent Hindi music ever!! So many pop stars and bands... Now its just Bollywood... Sad
Exactly....
there are still plenty of independent artists. for some reason they are just not as popular.

now u shud definetly watch "rangeelo maaro dholna"
The Singer is a trained and regularly performing Hindustani Classical Trained singer and her name is Ms. Shubha Mudgal and she is amazing and this is her one and only foray into pop music.
It was sung by the same lady who was acting - Subha Mudgil, a well known classical singer.
She is a master of Hindustani Classical AND she can really project her voice from the chest. I cut the music aside and was keenly following her voice.
I'M FROM Pakistan, listening to it with a little drizzle outside.
This song is an emotion.
You should listen to more indiepop songs from 90s. Best songs ever. Sonu Nigam. Adnan Sami, Anamika, Anaida. Sunita Rao.
