    Hey a good tip when using the double side tape and is to pull a couple inches of the tape protector off each corner and have the tabs hanging out; line it up and step back to make sure it’s on straight. It’s much easier to adjust only having a small portion stuck. Once it’s all lined up then pull the tab and press down in those areas.

      This is what I do too. Leave tails of the backing until it's aligned, then pull the tails of the backing and it will settle right down where you have it.

    The bug deflector looks fantastic, and the pinstripes on the fenders too.
    A trick with 2 sided tape, just pull a very small tab off the backing, then once in place you pull the rest of the backing off. Same thing when applying stickers.

    Maybe sand it before you install it may be a better solution. Normally you only take off the film on a small amount of tape, get it aligned and then pull the rest of the film off the tape as you go along.

    So, when installing items with that double sided foam tape, you don't remove all of the backing. You start the backing and fold it out from under the part so you can line the part up. After it's lined up, you pull the backing off.

  • @revest100
    @revest100 Місяць тому

    That was the first mod to my SuperDuty! Key to installing is to only remove about 1 inch of tape from each section then place it on the hood, ensure it is where you want it then pull the tape off.
    I will agree it is very sharp and I have cut myself opening the hood! If I had known that I would have smoothed the edges down first.

  • @pat4091
    @pat4091 Місяць тому +2

    Yes that method is frustrating. I used another product that sets off the front for more deflection of bugs. What used to be a very firm product is now too flexible. Had to put some bumpers under the deflector as it was too flexible at speed and folded against the hood and corner pieces. I like the Ford version for looks. But I prefer a model that sits off the hood and throws bugs higher over the windshield.
    Keep the videos coming!!

    I think that deflector looks good on your paint color. Definitely a 2-person job, though. Maybe even 3 depending on how flexible that middle is.

    It looks good on the truck. The Ford engineers need to come up with a better installation process. After seeing this I would probably do a unique vinyl wrap design and have it done professionally. Of course at a much higher cost!

    I always add a bug shield to my trucks, they really help for bugs and rocks protection. I usually color match them to the truck to give it an OEM plus look. What people say about a tail on the tape is correct and makes things WAY easier. Maybe a second person in this case too. If it got cracked this idea might be a good redo.

  • @Camperfanatic01
    @Camperfanatic01 Місяць тому

    I bought one for my 24 too, for the same reason. My truck is black so it blends in and not noticeable. But I like it on your truck too. I install mine by placing it where I want it, putting masking tape the hood and a piece in the shield, marking a line on both pieces of tape when I get it where I want it, and then remove only about 2 inches of each section of the red tape and fold it so it stick out then place it where I line my mark up and slowly start removing the red parts of the tape from the middle out. (Hope that makes sense)

    I’ve done several of these. I don’t pull all the tape backing off at once. I think the instructions actually said that. It’s very hard to get lined up.
    That said, I think they look good, and do a really good job protecting the truck. The front of the Super Dutys in particular are susceptible to chips.

    Now you need the colored letters from TD Vinyl to accent the Super Duty on the bug deflector and the rear tailgate. Pick a color that matches the trailer or get a nice gray. Would look sharp. I got red for my 2022 F-350 to match the red on my Alliance Valor toy hauler. Still have to put them on the truck. Might have to find that release spray to clean the surfaces. I like the look of the deflector.

    I know when putting stickers on work trucks we’d use a mixture of dawn and water in a spray bottle and spray the surface we’re applying to. It gave us time to position stickers and then sqeegi the excess out from underneath it.

    I worked at Shelby American building the GT350s in 2011. There were a lot of body accessories that used 2 sided tape and adhesion promoter to help secure body accessories we would put on. You're right. That adhesion promoter is no joke. The trick I found was to peel just enough of the plastic backing back to be able to fold it over so there is a small piece sticking outside the edge on each section of tape. That is a little more forgiving and helps keep the accessory ever so slightly off the paint so the tape doesn't stick so quickly. Once you get it lined up, you can stick that small section of tape. Then, the small piece of plastic sticking out the side can be pulled, exposing the rest of that section of tape to the promoter. This is the only technique I've found that helps get it perfectly straight every time without the help of someone else.

    The only problem with that is it will trap junk under the plastic, moisture will also be trapped under, and it's a smoked color on a white background. You can probably see it the junk accumulate after some time. Personally, I would have gone for a wrap or PPF, and yes, the wrap and / or PPF will contour to the letters on the hood. I see lots of problems with that plastic guard that will damage the hood of the truck over time, especially with the adhesive tape on the paint.

We also use three people to put one of these on. Also if you want to take it off a good hair dryer or a decent three level heat gun will actually take it off pretty easily or you can use 100% alcohol and a very small plastic fried tool. Good luck I honestly don't like these things I'd rather put the clear guard over and spend the time to heat it up and push it into all the letters.

    I had the same problem, definitely a 2 man job. It does look great though!

    Not impressed. I think it cheapens the look of a very expensive truck. I prefer a clean look with no decals or plastic add ons.

    O9 F350 Superduty had the best look, Hands down. these designs now are not truck look friendly. Fugly and all makes and models look alike.

    I personally not a fan of it was my truck, but that is 100% personal taste. It looks good and most importantly, do you like it? Of you do it was 100% the right call.
    Now, I do have a use for the 2017 rear bumper.

    Would ceramic coating be better? Plus it should keep the whole truck cleaner and easier to clean

    Use painters tape you probably need two people to put it on.

    Not a fan at all, I’d rather rock chips than ruin the way it looks(no rust thankfully). I would do PPF instead especially since you’ll still deal with rock chips on the fenders, fender flares and bumper. For some contrast, I’d add the tuffskinz “super duty” vinyl inserts to the hood(in chrome or brushed) to break up the sea of white. The protective quality of this is great but I couldn’t bring myself to protect it at the cost of the looks(sorry to whoever buys my trucks after me)
