    Or another option is... if you watch Craigslist, you can buy stuff used but in great condition. So far I have bought the following,
    $200 Dell 8700 XPS with i7 4770, 1TB HD, 8GB RAM, 460 watt power supply, Windows 8 that I upgraded for free to Windows 10.
    $100 MSI RX470 Gaming X 4GB.
    $20 8GB Corsair RAM (now I have 16GB system RAM).
    $100- Samsung EVO 850 500GB SSD.
    I have a very decent gaming system for a little over $400.

    • @soleskip
      @soleskip 7 років тому +30

      I've seen a few good deals on craigslist, but the majority are those with buyer's remorse and/or trying to get back every penny spent for a system that's 2-3 years old.

    • @Trainboy1EJR
      @Trainboy1EJR 7 років тому +4

      It's all about patience and frequent checks! Most stuff near me is either WAY too much or uselessly outdated. But I did find a 5 pack of graphics cards for $50 which turned out to be 2 $20 cards and 3 HDMI ports for $10, can't complain, as long as the R7 250 actually works... But my pc only has PCIE 1.0 so I can't test it :( lol, my Pentium D 840 cpu was bottle-necking my GT220 before it died, so the R7 wouldn't have made any difference to frame rates. But the GT640 works and that is what is in my pc now, it is so hilariously bottle necked that my pc uses 15 watts less than with the GT220! I'll be using the nvidia 8400 gs from that bundle if my gt640 dies, the integrated graphics on my pc max out at 1024x768, so the 8400 would still be a tremendously better experience, since it can do 1080p.

    • @JohnSmith-mk8hz
      @JohnSmith-mk8hz 7 років тому +1

      Yes patience and checking often is the key. Good deals go fast.
      Also I didn't really need the extra RAM and SSD so without those it only cost $300 but it's nice having them. Everything loads MUCH faster. For example in BF1, the game loads way faster and once it's loaded there is ZERO load times between maps.

    • @haxorinator8219
      @haxorinator8219 7 років тому +2

      I understand buying used it’s more cost efficient, but I call major BS on your prices.
      XPS 8700 goes for over $500 used. This isn’t a standard consumer desktop. XPS lines are premium desktops that cost near 1K new.
      RX 470s are over $200.
      There’s no way you got deals that good, sorry. I get your point, but you’ve skewed the truth a bit.

    • @JohnSmith-mk8hz
      @JohnSmith-mk8hz 7 років тому +5

      That's exactly what I paid. No BS. You just have to be patient and be willing to haggle on price. The good deals go fast so you have to watch close.
      I just recently got a Corsair K70 LUX mechanical keyboard for $65 in nearly new condition.
      I'm in the KC area, maybe I"m getting better deals than you get where you are. But I don't think that matters.
      Don't assume you can't find deals like this or won't put in the time and effort to do so. Don't be self defeating.
      So far the only new hardware I've bought is a Zowie FK2 mouse.

      It's not everywhere that the 570 was that cheap. When I had to choose a gpu about 2 years ago, the 560 and 1050 ti were the same price, with the 570 was way out of budget. Seems you like many forget about that.

    I'd like to see a second part of this video where higher end GPUs are swapped in the system (1050 Ti, RX 560, RX 570, maybe even 1060/580) - to see how these CPUs can perform on par with such a GPU for future upgrades. Now we already saw CPU bottlenecks with this kind of GPU, but with a better GPU settings could be pushed higher with possibly similar framerates. I'd also like to see an OC'ed R3 1200 in this comparison, as that to me is where the R3 lineup should show its value.
    Great video with high relevance for many new-to-PC users.

    • @JimmysTheBestCop
      @JimmysTheBestCop 7 років тому

      R3 1200 OC is double the price of the Pentium in a lot of places. I know I can get that pentium from my local Microcenters and its only $54 here whiles Jay's was $59. While the Ryzen 1200 is $110 at Microcenter.
      If you are only looking at it in terms of strictly gaming and FPS while also accounting for price-performance ratio the Pentium will win every time.
      Its only if you need any sort of multitasking or production type load that you would go Ryzen 1200 as its multicore benchmarks destroy the Pentium but in FPS even Oced if it gets you a couple more frames then the Pentium you paid double for it.

    2 Questions: Why didn't you pick a B350 board to use AMDs overclocking Potential whilst using an overpriced H270 board, when you could've gone with a much cheaper H110M board? This makes the AMD system look worse due to its missed out potential and the Intel system more expensive!

      It would be a fun video. But in terms of FPS Intel when paired with an equal GPU will always beat out Ryzen no matter. There are benchmarks all over the place.
      However that is only in strict gaming terms of FPS. Not factoring multitasking, virtual machines, editing video, content creation, 3D apps or anything like that.
      Production Ryzen will always beat Intel especially at the price-performance ratio.
      It just comes down to what each person does with their rig. Only gaming, only production or mixed.

  • @RockinChaos

    @JayzTwoCents the stuttering in World Of Warcraft is a graphics card issue, not an AMD or Intel specific. To be specific, its something within Nvidias drivers. I had a similar issue with my GTX 1070 but if i swapped in a new drive with a fresh OS it would work. I ended up figuring out that it was a setting within Nvidias Control Panel that I had to tweak and ever since then I never had a stuttering issue. I suffered with that issue for months so trust me it is a pain to figure out. I can't remember the specific setting at this time but I will look back and try to find it.

    It's funny how many are crying, "why didn't you buy a board to OC the AMD chip, they could have beat the pentium then!!!"... I think most people here are forgetting that the average person looking for a budget gaming PC isn't going to be overclocking. I love AMD, I really do, it's a great chip even for gaming, but Intel will still pace just ahead of AMD chips in some price ranges. Just like how AMD Ryzen is just ahead Intel in other workloads in various price categories.

      I want to buy a Ryzen 5 1600,so I'm with AMD for this time, but you are right, while the Ryzen 3 1200 with a 4Ghz overclock smash the Pentium and even some i5, the normal people wants to play and not get into overclock (hell, I built a pc for a friend with a Aorus Gaming K5 and a Ryzen 5 1600 and I didn't overclock it because it's a unexplored territory for me).
      In fact, half of the people that haves a system like this pays a store or person to build it for them.

      Cody Pettigrew Not everyone who's legally disabled can work a full time & few jobs let someone work part time & afford a place to stay. You don't know what's wrong with that dude. If you'd ever been in that position yourself, you'd know that. Also, not everyone who's disabled is born with that disability. It's a bit different to lose ability than it is to grow up without. One of those involves a lifetime of learning how to cope with it.
      That aside, not everyone who's collecting disability doesn't work. One of the best coworkers I've ever had was disabled & collecting disability, but still worked as much as he could manage.
      Moreover, not everyone without a job is too lazy to get one. Disabilities keep you from working a lot of unskilled or low skill labor jobs and many people who become disabled don't have vocational training to get cushy office jobs at places that actually comply with the ADA(or whatever their country's equivalent is).

  • @mraltoid19

    Should have gone with a cheap B350 ( www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157763&cm_re=B350-_-13-157-763-_-Product) as opposed to the A320. You could have tested the OCing on the 1200 and 950.
    Personally, between the two, the AMD build gets my nod. The G4560 is on a dead-end socket(no CoffeeLake Support) with only quad-core CPUs as upgrades, where as the 950 can be upgraded to any Ryzen 4, 6 or 8 core CPUs currently available or the next gen Ryzen CPUs, which AMD has officially stated will be supported by currently available motherboards ( www.eteknix.com/amd-pinnacle-ridge-feature-8-zen-2-cpu-cores/ ).
    So, considering upgrade path, and overclockablility (with the $60 B350 board I linked) the 950 should be a no-brainer compared to the G4560. I'm not AMD bias, I'm typing this on my i7 6700k machine, it's just that if I were in the market now, Intel really has nothing to offer, especially since CoffeeLake is not supported on current motherboards, despite using the same socket.

      Andrew Behrend Actually while never doing an expilicitly budget build (except for that old G3258 build), Linus for the most part gives fairly reasonable advice when it comes to budget builds, in fact he's one of the people who I first heard recommending 400W PSUs when back then, I thought 550 should be minimum, and saying that stock coolers are perfectly fine even for a mild overclock, of course he tarnished any credibility he had with that BeQuiet sponosered 1000$ build but still he's not as bad as people make him out to be.

    used i5 3570k (overclock as far as it'll go) - $50
    used rx 580 4 gb (the 8 gb ones are all ex-miners) - $100
    new jingsha 1155 mobo (this will be the limiting factor for your overclocking, so don't worry about a fancy cooler) - $60
    2x8gb DDR3 1600 - $65
    128gb SSD - $25
    2x500gb refurbished Seagate drives (go raid 0) - $30
    Seasonic M12II - $60
    HEC HX300 - $30
    sketchy ebay windows key - $20
    $440 plus tax and maybe shipping, give or take for normal price fluctuations. you could save $20 by using linux or just not activating windows (or pirating it I guess) and if you don't need a whole terabyte you could save $15 there, though hard drive speeds will take a hit since you'll lose raid capabilities. If you reuse an old case and power supply that's another $90 off, for a grand total of $305, and still a better system than either of these.

    IMO, the Pentium build is nowhere near worth it. With Coffee Lake coming up, the B250 and Z270 chipsets are dead. They won't support the new CPUs, and B250 doesn't even allow overclocking. While with Ryzen, for the same price as a *locked* B250 mobo you can get an *unlocked* B350 mobo with the Ryzen 1200, you can overclock it AND you get a great upgrade path for the future, since AM4 will be supported at least until 2020.

    • @clansome
      @clansome 7 років тому

      Point is, with the (relative) lack of progress from Intel due to the lack of competition from AMD (and don't get me started on why) the life span of the CPU, if not the chipset, has been extended to 7 years at least. If either company wants me to buy a NEW processor/motherboard/memory they have to give me a pretty compelling reason, and at the moment neither are. I would never recommend buying SandyBridge in 2017 but I have no reason to replace mine yet. However I realise that am digressing from the point of the video, sorry.

      @DiamondPugs 7 років тому +6

      With the Athlon an A320 it makes even less sense. The Athlon is unlocked and can overclocked sometimes as high as 5GHz.
      The price of a B350 and an A320 is almost nothing. At best 10 dollars, but in most cases they are around the same price.

      The Athlon would need decent cooling to reach a good overclock though, like the rest of the Bulldozer line of CPU's it'll run hotter.
      For the price of an Athlon and good cooler you're getting close to the R3 1200. Has anyone actually tested the stock fan against the Wraith?
      The Athlon and A320 board does make sense as a bare-bones budget build though, for somebody who wants more than what the APU can offer.

      You're right, come to think of it, its not a 'K' CPU. So we have a situation similar to Intel with non-K chips being overclockable on Z-series boards.
      That's really weird coming from AMD, but then some boards specify supporting only 65w TDP on Athlons. AM4 may not be designed to handle higher watt CPU's. Not low and mid-range boards anyway.

    Great video, but the Ryzen 3 chip was completely handicapped by NOT using a B350 board to leverage Ryzen's capabilities. Just changing out the chip didn't help and the B350 board would have cost LESS. As I've said before, I'm a "Fanboy" to nothing, but the Ryzen system would have been cheaper and won the competition, hands down!!

    • @JimmysTheBestCop

      On a GPU 1050 even OC all the chips will basically score the same. Check out Hardware Unboxed and Tech Yes City videos where they benchmark like 40 games.
      Even OC Ryzen 1200 on a GTX 1060 only beats the Pentium by a handful of frames. Only when they swap a GTX 1080 in there does Ryzen 1200 completely pull away from the Pentium often by 1 or 2 dozen frames.
      But who would be looking at a GTX 1080 when they are shopping for either a Pentium G4560 or a ryzen 3 1200. And it most places the R3 1200 still costs double then the G4560.
      So GTX 1060 or less price performance king is the G4560.

    Thanks for taking the time and the hard earned money to put this video together. I don't know if you included the cost of a monitor so unless you already have a display you can tack on at least another 100.00+ for that. I don't know who would want to use a dual core CPU on a desktop anymore other than just not being able to afford anything else. I didn't do the drag out bidding war on ebay to get the lowest prices on all the parts I bought but I built my PC with an intel i7 3.4 quad-core on a Dell 7010 motherboard for 235.00 (whole PC with win7 pro 8gb of RAM and a 500gb HDD-now just my storage drive), with an nvidia gtx geforce 960 gpu for 100.00, new samsung 250gb SSD for 90.00, overpaid to support a local pc shop owner who helped my with some questions for an 8gb DDR3 stick of ram for 75.00, a pc case and power supply from another local pc shop for about 85.00, 24 inch HD t.v. for 120.00 ish, keyboard for 11.00. And I had a mouse on hand. overall it was about 726.00
    It boots and loads software quickly, and the only games I have are Resident Evil 7, (which was why I invested in the nvidia 960) and Bioshock Infinite. It runs RE7 fantastically, only slows here and there for a second or two when I'm running on a few occasions, but it never does it for some ridiculously long time or very frequently that it becomes annoying. And that is with the settings maxed except for one feature that the card doesn't support. I haven't played anything online and I'm not a big gamer so I may never really end up doing that unless my brother get's me to join him on something in the future.

    not a fan of Ryzen after dumping my 1700 following some performance issues. That said, I would give this to the Ryzen R3 1200 build. The socket is supported going forward and you have a ton of room for growth. A small upgrade on the motherboard at purchase could let you OC a bit. Even the stock air cooler can manage alright with Ryzen. AMD really has the budget end covered extremely well.

    • @seanjohnson8344
      @seanjohnson8344 7 років тому

      1700 @3.8-3.9The performance issues were a combination of the Motherboard manufacturer's and the new platform. Memory compatability was terrible, I had cold boot issues, turning my system on was a 10 minute process of rebooting over and over. The asus crosshair vi hero was a bad pick from my end. I've only ever had issues with ASUS and customer support was brainless. Combine this with ASUS being unwilling to cross ship for RMA in the hopes that that might fix some of the issues and I gave up. I have a whole thread about it on LTT forums under giving up on Ryzen. I now have a 7700k with an ASROCK Gaming K6 and it's buttery smooth as my daily driver. The performance jump in world of warcraft and every day use was tremendous.

    • @gunitakon
      @gunitakon 7 років тому

      sean johnson damn... That's really upsetting. My plan was to get a CROSSHAIR VI as well with a 1700X.
      I honestly want to get a Ryzen based on specs and price, like no doubt. But then when I read these stories, it makes me really uncertain. And I don't know what to do. I need the build to last 5 years and if the CPU is just gonna break down on me, that's super bad

    • @seanjohnson8344
      @seanjohnson8344 7 років тому

      look at asrock imo, chip is still a good value. unless you want high fps on poorly optimised games like wow. Ryzen 1700 @ 3.8 on 1440p @144hz got me about 120FPS in towns and sub 40 in heavy raid situations. The 7700k (at stock) with same GX settings 155 in towns and nothing less than 60 in any raid situation. OC @ 5Ghz it's just silly FPS.

    • @gunitakon
      @gunitakon 7 років тому

      sean johnson well the thing is, if I end up not going for the Ryzen, I'll be waiting for Coffee Lake because I could really use the more cores, it's just that I'm afraid of the Ryzen breaking down. I wouldn't mind getting lower FPS in raids for example, (although I will admit 40 is pretty bad), because I also do GFX and software development, and I know those would benefit from higher cores, and with general multi tasking. But then again, there's no point to it if the CPU is going to stop working or fail miserably in less than 5 years.
