Scruffy Plays Pikmin 4 - Episode 14

- Опубліковано 26 сер 2023
- Pikmin 4 is here! And I'm recording my playthrough so I can chronicle my thoughts and reactions as they happen!
I can't shake my curiosity about the game's 4th area, and it turns out it also features its share of caves-difficult ones with fascinating new gameplay mechanics to add! Between that, a night mission, and a Dandori challenge, I'm constantly on my feet this episode.
Music used at the dedication at the end is an excerpt from "Lament" composed by Malcolm Williamson, performed by the Northern Sinfonia. - Ігри
Each playthrough has a different code to the safe, meaning each person's treasure hoard will be a little bit different.
Each copy of pikmin 4 is personalized
Every copy of Pikmin 4 is personalized real?
Every copy of Pikmin 4 is definitely personalized
also certain castaways like Molly can have randomized features such as hair colour from the looks of it.
@@Goomba456 their colors change depending on what leafling color they were originally
Scruffy make sure you read Olimars’ mission logs in the map pause menu! There’s some story and lore stuff in there that you unlock at random, not just tutorial stuff
32:30 for Scruffy saying “no dogs allowed” in a funny voice
Thank you.
34:15 I like how you paused the game to process the fact that the game screen is what Colin and Shepard use to watch you.
I love how Oatchi takes Moss's presence personally.
On the note of talking to Castaways, you may have noticed that basically all the non-Rescue Corp NPCs were made using the Character Creator options.
Perhaps they'd have something to say to you if you used Puddle to become their Doppelganger...
For the record, the reason you can only bring red pikmin into the frozen inferno is because the entrance is on fire. It's similar to the engulfed castle, the entrance was underwater so you could only enter with blue pikmin. Even if you try, your not allowed to pick other types in these cases.
As for the boss of cave (Snowfake Fluttertail) you defeated it without using one of the fight mechanics. They give you two unlit bonfires to assist you in the fight. Not only are they in more continent locations to pick up fire starters from, having atleast one lit will warm up the room enough that pikmin won't shiver in the boss arena. The bonfires also act as distractions as the boss will occasionally ignore you and attempt to extinguish the bonfires allowing them to also act as a distractions.
It was embarrassingly easy even without that mechanic
I think this is a good example of one of the more lackluster parts of the boss/enemy designs in my opinion, that a good number of them have cool interactivity and dynamics with the environment that can get left by the wayside because engaging with the mechanics can optional.
Not that it's a bad thing really, as they serve primarily to help people that are more thorough with their play, but it's just seemed to me that throwing pikmin blindly at things works far more than it should for a game that bothered to build out so many more mechanics.
YOU CAN’T JUST CASUALLY MAKE A SNOOPY COME HOME REFERENCE OMG
Scruffy, if you want more unique flavor text like the oatchi leaf thing then change your character so that you're EXACTLY the same as one of the castaways, you get unique dialogue that way of them reacting to being your doppelgänger. You could for example do it with schnauz really easily with minor changes, and with all the others ones ofc if you're very dedicated.
that’s such an adorable detail wtf
if you look the same as Bernard he says something about "HIM" but he's just talking about another castaway that annoys him and not a waterwraith 2.0
funnily enough, one of the castaways i rescued looked EXACTLY like my character except she was green and had a different nose
@@NyxxyNightstarone of the castaways looks exactly like my character, just with the hair and spacesuit colors reversed
@@ashercd6487 no I think that one was santi. that's their name right
17:21 i love how scruffy shhhhs oatchi thats so lovely
the way scruffy utilizes thumbnails to give a glimpse of what the episode is like is so cool!! as soon as i saw that pinecone on fire i knew the episode would revolve around red pikmin in some sorta way😁
44:18 i just got flashbacks to groovy, that hurt to watch :') RIP to those poor piks
Hey Scruffy, this is the same comment as last episode, but I think it'd be good to keep an eye on Olimar's voyage log, there are some interesting entries that don't get shown to you directly, as well as some cuter light hearted ones as well! Good look with the playthrough, hope you enjoy the journey with the Oatster
omg thank you for pointing this out we hope they look at olimar's entries!! /gen /pos
Shepherd’s log is really interesting too
What does /gen mean? @@lil-guys-blep
/genuine, I think it's like /serious but like .. less intense
thanks@@funnyfella8198
Oatchi's gotten so many scruffy bones from training and you haven't fed him a single time! Please feed our proud boy. ❤
The Hero's Hideaway really brings me back to the days where I played Chibi-Robo for the first time. There genuinely is something neat about running around a house as something so small, having to come up with creative ways of climbing up things that are suddenly no longer optimized for your current scale. At least Chibi-Robo has some friendly, full-sized humans to help them around...
Others have said it, but I'd recommend checking out the other tabs on the Tablet! The Journal and Voyage Log update over the course of your adventure, and both contain just more than tutorial bits. Every so often, Shepherd will provide some logs from her ancestors, and sometimes Olimar leaves a more personal note in between his usual remarks. (Like including what the plotline of Pikmin 2 *actually* was...)
I like the tiny details of enemies interacting with ice and fire. Like cannon beetle (when it's about to fire a shot it's "ice meter" goes down to zero).
I think in that case it’s just because you haven’t hit it in a while
if you want to keep your cursor locked on without it switching you can press zr once, pressing zr after that will lock your cursor on to a different nearby target. I’ve been really enjoying this series, so I hope this helps
these episodes always come out at the perfect time to calm my stress and remind me to relax and enjoy myself. i'm glad this game is so big because i'll definitely be sad when the journey is over!
even when the journey is over, you can always rewatch 🫂💞 we'll definitely be doing that! /nf /gentle
it took me around 40 or so hours and 65 in-game days to 100% this game so there's a lot more to go! i dont want any of this to end either!
there's a cave in this area that I'm sure scruffy will enjoy, mainly for a whole song that gets brought back like in the engulfed castle
Im keeping this vague so i wont spoil scruffy on it, but is it the cave with the “specific” bulborbs? If so i cant wait for them to hear it!
(spoiler)
bread
It was so funny to see the Scruffy run around from a bug whenever our Scruffy was controlling Oatchi during the night mission
I'm very curious to find out how the "no rewinds" philosophy will hold in a later cave 👀
theres even more secret dialogue with the NPCs at camp if you have the exact same appearance as them!
The same applies for if you talk to the npcs as oatchi without the player! And alot of it is honestly really adorable.
@@oceanfur__0415 Scruffy's alreadone done that both in previous episodes and in others.
@@jorgemtzb9359 No no not that cave, i know hes already done engulfed castle, i mean the breadbugs
@@oceanfur__0415Your reply has got nothing to do with the comment you replied to
you mentioned having difficulty with the locking on the cursor, if you press ZR to focus on one enemy and then press L or R, it cycles between all of the different objects in the area! great episode as always
Never seen someone totally skip the phase of the moth fight where it puts out the bonfires before
I've been really enjoying these videos. Is just nice to get unadulterated joy, even in a proxy form, to a piece of media. I mean I liked the game before but now I can appreciate aspects I just didn't notice at all.
Well at any rate I hope they figure out the treasures get a special collected form after all pieces are collated when viewed in the treasure log.
57:00 59:01 1:00:40 1:05:32 1:05:51 1:06:41 - don’t mind me, just keeping up my habit of timestamping yonny’s voice
(plus a bonus collin timestamp, because this line is especially cute - 1:02:32)
scruffy i can't tell you how therapeutic these episodes are to just listen to and have in the background. your voice is super comfy to just hangout with. I hope dipping your toes into the let's play genre maybe inspires you to play other Pikmin games (or whatever you want) on the channel in the future :3
pikmin that are not ice, winged and blue will stop following you when entering water so no need to throw pikmin to the side, sometimes
When The gold nuggets are not on gildamandwees back also disbands your pikmin when youre near it making them attack it.
LET'S GOO. ANOTHER HOUR OF SCRUFFY
YEAH!!!
Always the best part of my day
Oh yes, remember that every castaway tends to have anywhere from 3-8 lines of dialogue! You can always get a lot of lore from them, it’s very fun.
This was already my favorite channel before, but watching you play Pikmin 4 is so wholesome!
I just know there's HAS to be some sort of twist sometime later, just like the last two games...
VERY excited to see what it is!
there's 2 "twists" i believe
spoilers (but not fully):
Louie acts like louie again
I'm drinking Honey, Lemon & Rooibos Tea while watching this episode.
I wonder what kinds of tea Scruffy likes (if he even likes tea).
Please comment your fav, I need some good recommendations.
And if you don't have a favourite tea then I have a little quest for you, discover your kind of tea.
(This is an optional quest that has no time limit.)
Vanilla comoro tea is my favorite! Though I'm also a sucker for anything lavender
Do at least i get raw materials for this ?
Maybe a bit of a common suggestion, but I can't go to bed without a masala chai with honey and milk in it.
@@Nedrac
Of course, how does 30 sound?
I love black tea with milk and (idk what it is called but it's kind of like milk but thick and sweet) I always drink it when I need smth comforting:) my childhood basically revolved around this haha
For the special dialogue from Kingsley, castaways typically have two responses if you talk to them as Oatchi, and I believe there are a couple of other characters that mention his leafy Pikmin tail
Something I had to train myself to remember during Dandori Challenges was the Signal to call inactive Pikmin to your location. It's so much better to do that than run all the way to the Beagle and risk accidentally Whistling Pikmin actively working on something.
Scruffy, I have no clue who you are, and I just met your channel today, but I'd literally trust you with my life.
What perfect timing! Thank you Scruffy for this meal💆
PIKMIN IS BACK ON THE MENU BOYS
no matter how much i talk shit on your skills in dandori, i still watch all your vids the second i find them
Everything is so clean. As of it was lived in not but days ago.
Probably something to do with the odd time distortions happening on PNF-404.
I would believe somebody if they told me humans made a lot of the organisms for different purposes. Not just pikmin. One or many of which are acting as a cleaner to maintain the households.
Lets not talk about purposed organism, i got enough of Rain world content today lmao
Summing up some hints folks have posted in case Scruffy wants them in one place! Folks, reply if I missed something or if you have something to add, lets make a handy thread :)
- When you collect a complete set of treasure, check back on it, some sets will be interactable or have something else fun going on for them!
- If you change your appearance to look EXACTLY like one of the castaways and then go talk to that castaway, you get unique dialog!
- Olimar's log as well as other logs hide extra lore that isn't tutorial related, it's worth it to read them even if off camera to see if it's of interest at all to you.
- Oatchi's rush can automatically pick Pikmin that happen to be close to a ledge, it's not something you get the chance to do that often, but still neat!
- A personal favorite of mine. When you next encounter a Candypop Bud and toss some pikmin in, use Oatchi's rush to bump into the bud just as the seeds are spit out, trust me you'll thank me later!
Scruffy actually accidentally did the last point already in the engulfed castle! Its why the purple pikmin cutscene happens before he plucks one, though i doubt scruffy realizes it.
I think the last two points about Oatchi's rush and plucking Pikmin are related! It probably has to do with plucking any Pikmin that are higher than the impact point, and it just so happens that hitting the candypop works just as well as any wall.
scruffy!!!! if you press A while oatchi is by your side oatchi will do a little dance
Your dedication at the very end had me both laughing and feeling really bad 😭
hell yeah more relaxing voice to listen to
Ahhh the notification for a new episode always makes my day
i've really been enjoying this playthrough so far !!!!!!!! it's always so pleasant and something i can look forward to amidst my busy schedule :]
also, i may just be repeating what others have already told you here, but i would really recommend reading through olimar's voyage log as you go on !!! i ignored it for a lot of my playthrough but really started looking around this time and ... theres some interesting stuff in there!!
32:27 - was that a reference to Snoopy Come Home with the exact cadence of the "NO DOGS ALLOWED"?
The fire starters can destroy all ice hazards, like ice walls, ice on frosty bulborb, and other ice hazards
These videos bring me joy in a very dull and boring phase in my life. Thank you for deciding to record your time with this game.
Downloaded this hour long video for my road trip
joining the masses to tell you to check through the mission logs!! there's story / lore stuff that the game doesn't show you during gameplay like the info ones!!
the pikmin will not forget scruffy, who would not time travel a few minutes to save 100 of their kind
I believe the in game camera is supposed to be the Survey Drone, which you're looking through the whole game, which is how Colin and the rest can see the feed
I've always wanted a 3rd person game to do that, it's such a neat idea. It always would make me think of how the scope on the sniper rifle in halo is actually a camera, and when you use it in the game the scope you see is just a heads up display showing the camera feed on the inside of your visor
That ice moth boss is rather pretty to me. I especially like how it has its own musical intro before the actual boss music starts.
RIP to the red boys O7
Taking out moss at the begining of every day is the most dandori way.
I love these videos!
It is great that you chose to explore Hero's Hideaway in this episode! It is one of my favorite areas, and its music is my favorite by far.
I like how some of his voices are just Patrick Warburton
still no idle counter 😔
scruffy 🤝 ignoring the cheapest upgrades
EDIT: this is just a joke, Scruffy, play however you want! we're just along for the ride. :)
@@noahsabadish3812 Not only cheap, but useful. Unlike the tons of oatchi HP ups (you get dozens of free scrummy bones)
It’s easy to think it’s useless but with how Scruffy can get mixed up it would be a great way to keep him on-track
I like how when Scruffy encounters a glitch, bug, or exploit he doesn't mention it.
13:08 it's one of those paper ball toys that you crumple up and it inflates itself when you throw it from hand to hand!
I looked it up and it's called a kamifusen paper balloon :) i remember seeing a cool video about how it works, it was from vsauce or numberphile or someone like that
39:53 - Scruffy just did something I didn't know you could do??? And I already 100% the game!
Awh heck yeah these are always great to watch
When you view the completed series of the train track or action figure, you get what it looks when it’s put together (like a train going around a train track)
The Treasure Guage + allows you to see completely buried treasures on the map, but also spoils the names of all the treasure series.
has anyone noticed that the way Oatchi throws pikmin is somewhat underhand? i dunno i just thought it was funny
a neat thing to know about glow pikmin, is that they grow from leaves to flowers over time, but using the glowmob resets them back to leaves as a way to balance it (its still not balanced, glowmin are probably the best in the game, even more than purples)
oh, and another cool feature regarding firestarters is that you can use them to destroy ice walls really quickly
Hey Scruffy, no worries about the ice blocks, you can easily rush it with Oatchi, even with Pikmin on his back and Ice Pikmin cannot melt, they can only die 2 seconds faster when on fire then other Pikmin.
Oh, and frozen Pikmin won't die, it's more of a stun hazard.
The paper balloon slowly floating over before dropping looks so unintentional but it seems like it also goes in that direction with the same descent so I guess not
40:40 sometimes simplicity is the most beautiful thing
dont you just love it that the cave first looks like engulfed castle and only reds can be used to enter it?
one of my favorite little details is how when you check a leafling’s ID, it plays a sped up version of their motif
Tip for moss: PikPik carrots distract her for a good amount of time. It’s good if you don’t want to harm moss or if you don’t want her stealing yours Pikmin.
39:55 wait. oatchie ramming into that plucked all 5 pikmin at once? whoa
More like it woke them before they hit the ground
Ice pikmin are unaffected by Fire Starters or warm air. I've never seen someone not light the bonfires next to the boss, that's the longest I've seen that boss survive.
Wow, thats fairly impressive , even at x2 speed your voice still sounds normal and so are your exploration prowess .
Wow, I'm genuinely astonished that you cleared Frozen Inferno without using any of the ice pikmin!
That was certainly quite a hefty episode
Thank you for not rewinding:)
12:50 Well, that ball went flying! 42:10 But both words mean good!
39:52
WHAT THE CRAP WAS THAT?! New speedrun tech?
Not new, but yes suitable for speedruns
Y'know throwing that fire pinecone on the pretzle might just work as a strat to burn obstacles in the way without having to follow the treasure around, some meta dandori
I remember hearing that “no dogs allowed” song from somewhere.
I just forget.
17:20 is absolutely adorable
Question, Scruffy: In the Rescue Command Post, there are Pellet Posies about. Are you able to take them to the Onion with Oatchi? If you can, what happens?
I'd assume that you can pull pikmin out of the onion and use that directly, considering we never see him go near the onion he hasn't noticed it either.
@R41N80WSCR4TCH Hopefully he notices and gives it a try!
@@airmanon7213 absolutely! I wonder if he'll try after the red pikmin he lost this episode, although we're still waiting on more winged pikmin lol
It will give you Pikmin of a type that you have the least of amongst the onion colors you’ve collected
to add on to what shuckle said, any pikmin that doesn’t have an onion will give the rewards to the lowest pikmin color (one that does has an onion)
Moss has magic teleporting powers. She can access any part of the floor of the house, even if it's impossible for your captain or Oatchi to get to.
On a serious note, I really should spend some time watching how Moss gets to kitchen on a future playthrough. Moss magically appearing in the kitchen caused my first sunset death in the game and it frustrates me so much.
32:33 puzzle snack my beloved……..
if you ever do; in an episode; talk to all the castaways as oatchi - i believe there are two lines of dialogue for each of them with oatchi. maybe a couple have more (like kingsly with the leaf tail) but from what i remember there was two different ones thats repeat
i only noticed after playing pikmin 3 deluxe but the lock on in this game works the same as it did there - the auto lock on doesnt but when you press i think zr itll let you switch between nearby targets which is helpful for when the auto lock on feels like its got "stuck'
man that freezecake owned; poor 34 pikmin
i cant wait for the heros hideaway night missions; the higher difficulty level ones are fun
Don't forget the idler's alert! It's very useful in dandori chaluenges and battles.
I’d be cool if there was a boss rush mode in this game, akin to Kirby’s true arena mode.
You take up to like 50 pikmin of your choosing in with you and try to make it to the end without losing them all.
After every boss you have a chance to replenish some of your losses and Candypop Buds will be supplied in the resting area and before type specific bosses.
Francois also has special leaf oatchi dialogue!
Also scruffy, I think you can flower your pikmin during the dandori challenge to make them faster thus more efficient
Hey Scruffy! Loving the playthrough so far. Silly question, but us composers must know: where can I listen to the full piece "Lament" you play at the end of each episode? It sounds gorgeous, I am just unable to find it anywhere! Thanks for your help!
YIPPPEE PIKMIN TIME!! 🥳🎉
Fun fact, you can distract moss with a pikpik carrot for a good few minutes without harming her! Maybe try that if you don't want to fight her
Also scruffy it's not that the cursor doens't like to switch between targets, is that you can do it manually with zr. Though autolock can definitely be really iffy at times
Shear Fleas are nasty. They will kill pikmin incredible fast. Not like Dead Leaf creatures, but similar to searwigs
49:24 I think you were supposed to light those fire totems to make your fighting easier, same goes with the jelly fire totem
I wonder where Moss takes the pikmin she kidnaps O:
The vault, at sundown
