  • The Tubes self-titled debut album was released in June of 1975. Antenna TV spoke to Fee Waybill, lead-singer of The Tubes, about working with famed producer Al Kooper on their first album and spying on Frank Zappa as he recorded in the same studio. What's your favorite album of the 1970s?

    You can totally tell these guys were Zappa influenced. What a year to be witnessing Frank in the studio as well. That was his absolute peak. Love The Tubes. What a tight band, even today. And what a producer for you first album! Al Kooper is underrated as hell. They've been friends of my family for years. My dad used to hang out with them and their incredible drummer Prairie Prince whenever they'd come to Boston.

      Tubes (pre recording contract) sounded very much like early zappa. There are a couple of collections they've put together of their early stuff. (Dawn of the Tubes/Mondo Birthmark).
