Enjoyed the video, though I disagree with heat bulbs/CHE not needing to be on a thermostat. Especially, with most people not understanding wattage, making sure that the heated area doesn't exceed a threshold is a good and safe precaution.
Great point! It never hurts to have back ups in place, but I don't know that I have ever seen someone actually control temps that way. With on/off bulbs that emit light, it would not really work. With dimmable bulbs or heat emitters, you would need an oversize heat source, which is dangerous unless you get the probe placement perfect, and it never moves.

Good idea! I would want to tour a facility that is successful doing that- you need to get the temps exactly perfect, food size exactly perfect, and not mix species in a collection like that.

I was using bulbs (red & white) and python moved to hot and cool side perfectly . Changed to heat pad and CHe, and she hasn’t gone to hot side in 2weeks. Normal behavior or not happy, I don’t know. She eats great I can say that. Cool side is 78 with good humidity. Hot side is 85, hide temp is 88, substrate temp on hot side is 85-89. Humidity is spot on. Any thoughts or am I over thinking it?
Lamps that provide heat should always be on a thermostat: even if the wattage gives correct temperatures, if the room overheats for any reason, then the enclosure will also overheat. Lamps which emit heat should be controlled by a dimming thermostat; the latter type is also suitable for the other types of heating, and respond very rapidly, giving good control. For vivariums, a heat lamp, either a standard filament or a halogen, gives out beneficial infra red A and B.
