Rest in peace the announcers: Dick Enberg and Steve "Snapper" Jones. The memories those 2 gave me announcing NBA games, as a die hard Knicks fan in the 1990s as a kid are great. And the Portland Trailblazers who have died: Cliff Robinson, Jerome Kersey and Kevin Duckworth. Who would have thought that Magic Johnson who was diagnosed with a DEADLY incurable HIV virus in 1991 would outlive them all and become a super successful businessman worth 1.2 BILLION dollars. The guy is truly Magic)

This lakers team was badass. Grizzled vets in Scott and Worthy plus some young guns led by a savvy and guile magic johnson.
To me, magic taking this team to the finals was one of his finest accomplishments considering the age and injuries + new coach that he dealt with.

RIP Steve Jones, Kersey, Duckworth, Cliff Rob l, chick Hearn others. Can't believe it's been 30 plus years

It's crazy to think this was Portland's best team, where everyone was at the peak of their prime and they were never able to put it together to win at least one title. Goes to show how short of a window a good team has to win and why its so important to take advantage of it while they have it. One game can change everything.

They were just missing a interior scorer in the halfcourt from 90-92.
Clyde as their offensive leader had a shaky jumper and limited go to moves 1 on 1. Terry Porters jumper blew hot and cold. Once the pace of games slowed Portland really struggled to score in the halfcourt.

Imagine this team with a better shooter than doncic, a Doncic with 52%fg, 45% from 3p.,90%ft..and a Jokic way better in defense, with 3-4 blocks a game, before injuries way way better athlete, a man who destroyed D. In between there 90 and 92 NBA finals appearances, was this 91 Blazers team, that was probably there best team during that 3 year stretch. They had the best record in the entire league in a time where Michael Jordan was arguably at his absolute peak, and the Bulls would obviously go on to become 1st time NBA champions.
The Blazers were a very good team with a great player in Clyde Drexler as there #1 guy, but they weren't quite good enough to overcome a 3 year stretch where they lost in the finals to prime Isiah and the vintage bad boy Pistons, Magic Johnson in the last year of his prime and the somewhat under dog Lakers and obviously prime if not peak MJ and the defending champion Bulls.

1st) during that era a career didn't last as long. modern medicine had not advanced so much ( the mid 90s is when teams heavily invested in sports medicine) and thus Magic was not as tuned up as you would expect
2nd) during the 80s NBA players traveled commercial which over many years took a heavy toll on their bodies
