I am guessing you don't want this to come out unless dismantled? If you build it inside the two bump outs you carved around you should be able to slide it in and out when needed. Then, to get the width you want you build a couple of leaves that attach to the top the to make it wider where, what I suspect is a sleeping area, will be.
