      Now any idea why only the passenger side four cylinders wre firing? My mechanic said its timing chain but by the time we lift it up to access and look might as well just put a new reman engine in...

    2001 Dakota had code P0551- followed these steps without any issues replacing the switch. Some oil came out. Now just have to reset the check engine light and I’m good. Thanks for the video 👍🏼

    Mad props my man. I got the check engine light with this code and found my sensor leaking as well. 02 Dakota 4.7l @ 114K. Not as bad as shown so maybe I caught it early. Anyway... yes fix - hit up RockAuto for a new sensor, removed the old one, plugged in shiny new one, used a turkey baster to remove the old fluid, put in ATF+4, cycled the pump a few times, checked fluid levels, cleared code and it didn’t come back. Thanks again. Excellent info for DYI repair!

    The bad sensor can actually force fluid through the wiring harness into the computer and body module causing electrical glitches. Mine had the interior lights flashing on and off and did ruin the body module. Luckily for me the computer was ok after it was cleaned out and dried. The sensors just seem to fail for no real reason. Last one I got was at A&A and it had a lifetime guarantee for $25. You will see fluid leaking from the wires at the top of the sensor and some spraying. Change it as quickly as you can before it causes serious damage.

    I changed the Switch and hose, but my truck keep saying Check gages, and the steering is hard until speed up, can be the pump?

    • @TonyTheTruckGuy
      @TonyTheTruckGuy  Рік тому

      Could definitely be the pump. Is anything reading out of the ordinary on your actual gauges?

  • @c0dyCarnage
    @c0dyCarnage 9 років тому +2

    hey great video, i just replaced mine and when i took the old one out is fluid supposed to leak out of the pressure line, im assuming so since it has to read the pressure in the line, sorry if thats a silly question, new to dodge coming from all imports, just picked up the truck to load my bikes to trails, thanks!

    • @TonyTheTruckGuy
      @TonyTheTruckGuy  9 років тому

      I can't recall if there was some sort of check valve in there to keep fluid out but yeah you'd think it would be an open passage to get an accurate pressure reading.

  • @littletoy01
    @littletoy01 10 років тому +2

    can you show a video on changing pressure hose .

    • @TonyTheTruckGuy
      @TonyTheTruckGuy  10 років тому

      We replaced that hose on this truck, unfortunately I did not record it. The job itself is not that difficult, however I found that turning the steering wheel all the way left then squeezing in the left fender worked best for me. I don't remember what size wrench the bottom fitting is but I think the fitting that goes into the pump is a 5/8". BE VERY CAREFUL when removing the pump end of the line, there is a tappet and a spring in there that will fall out and if you do not put them back in the proper order and orientation, the pump may not function properly.

    ive replace my sensor 3 times and fluid continues to come out of where the sensor plugs in!! do you know what could cause this?

    • @TonyTheTruckGuy
      @TonyTheTruckGuy  10 років тому

      Are you sure there isn't a pin hole leak in the line somewhere and it's squirting onto the sensor? It should not be coming out of the sensor itself, if so then you have gotten 3 bad sensors in a row, or for some reason the pressure is WAY higher than it should be, causing oil to push through the sensor.

    • @TonyTheTruckGuy

      Just any kind that says "power steering fluid" on the jug from any auto parts store, this truck does not use ATF for the power steering fluid, just good old clear power steering fluid.

    • @TonyTheTruckGuy
      @TonyTheTruckGuy  10 років тому

    Would this clear the p0551 code right away? Or would I Still have to run its full cycles for it to clear? Thank you

    • @TonyTheTruckGuy
      @TonyTheTruckGuy  6 років тому +1

      I can’t remember on this one but you generally have to clear the codes with a scanner for the light to go away. I would replace the pressure switch then if it doesn’t go away on it’s own, take it to an auto parts store and just rent their scanner to clear the cow if you don’t have a scanner.

    i have 03 dodge dakota v6. The sensor isnt in the same place on my power steering pump. Do you happen to know where it is?

    • @TonyTheTruckGuy
      @TonyTheTruckGuy  8 років тому

      Do you have the 3.7 or 3.9 motor? If you for sure have a code for this sensor it must be on the steering system somewhere, check on the pump, all the lines and the steering rack, should be the only sensor on the steering system.

    • @nicolasbaldwin2194
      @nicolasbaldwin2194 8 років тому +1

      I have the 3.9l v6. Yes i do have a code. It was weird though because it turnt on while i was doing 60 down a straight highway. I havent been having any steering issues or loss of power going around corners like it said issues could be with the sensor

    Sow what are the symptoms of a bad switch/sensor?

    • @TonyTheTruckGuy
      @TonyTheTruckGuy  6 років тому +2

      It will either throw a code or be leaking. I’m not sure why they even installed a pressure switch to be honest.

    Will this sensor being bad cause there to be no power steering?

    • @TonyTheTruckGuy
      @TonyTheTruckGuy  2 роки тому +1

      I don’t believe so. I think it literally just senses line pressure. If you have fluid and no power steering, your pump is probably bad.

    • @TonyTheTruckGuy
      @TonyTheTruckGuy  9 років тому

      Your check engine light will come on and throw a code, or power steering fluid could leak from the sensor.
