@Aleksa Sarmeš oh believe me it still gets used quite a bit on the farm just about every other day except in the winter but even still I have a snow blower on the back so it gets used all year around for just about everything there’s actually quite a few in my area if you know where to look you could pick one up for A couple thousand in running condition sometimes even cheaper than that

I still have my great great grandpas model A. He bought it brand new in 1953. It was a styled 6 speed 52 model. No water pump. Thermo dynamic cooling. The original 12v alternator still work if you believe that.
My favorite to drive was the wide front J. D. 720 gas model , what power ! Memories ! My uncle used to use the cigarette lighter on the tractor to light his cigarettes !
My grandpa had both an A and B model. My dad had a 1950's M and later an AR too. Great tractors (especially for us kids to learn how to drive one). Not to mention the numerous 110's, 112's, 214's, and and I think even a 300 lawn tractors that he collected (some for parts). They're still around, and several still running.
I have farmed with John Deere tractors my whole career ( 52 years ) I have owned a couple of other brands and have learned I better stick with John Deere.
By far the best. It all started in 1958 when my dad bought a brand new John Deere 620 and we still have it in the family today. Later, we bought a 1968 4020 and after one major engine overhaul we are still using it today. Most recently we bought a John Deere 4056R. With the luck we’ve had with their durability and longevity I see no other reason to buy a different brand.
My Grandpa bought a 1520 brand new in 72.. 40 years later I found out why he never sold that little tractor. It still gets out and works with the big boys. It’s duties only consist of Hay production now but don’t ever count it out of any job. The tractor has been overhauled 4 times.. the first 2 were because of back then he mixed his own antifreeze with spring water.. pitted out the sleeves.. the other two times were due to broken rings. The tractor probably has 40k hours.
John Deere was a Transylvanian engineer who invented agricultural machinery, then went to America and built his first tractor. Now a very famous brand and I am proud of it. Így székely szemmel!
John Deere was born in Vermont and ended up moving out to Illinois. His plow was revolutionary because of it’s polished steel design, which was considered “self cleaning” because the polished steel didn’t allow the dirt to stick like on the cast iron plows used at that time. Cast iron plows had to be cleaned/scraped off constantly in order to perform correctly. John Deere died years before Deere and Co. built their first tractor.
You didn't mention the new developments where your equipment has a relatively minor failure but it take two weeks for the field circus to show up to tell the ECU it's ok to run now, while your crop rots in the field.
My step dad just hopped of and said pick me up on the next round. 1oohp bailing on a side hill. 2wd. Age 8 years old.. One day I got taken out of primary school to do rotodiscing.. Wish I was still driving..
I bought my very first own tractor a couple years ago, she's an 1941 styled John Deere model A. And in the future I plan to make her look and be like as she came out of the factory. when John Deere made their tractors, built to last for many years to come. and she may not be in the best of conditions, but she's had a good working life. and I don't think I'll be letting go of her anytime soon, because I know that I can get quite a bit more work out of her yet on the farm and when tractor pulling.
Dont forget in the late ‘70s when Kenzi Mfg invalidated JD patents on Maximerge row units and several other patents they claimed but were copying from other people. JD got beat in court and wanted out of court because Kenzi had them by the nuggets. Great story.
Central Iowa. Late 1930's. My dad was in a one room school house and saw his dad's new 1937 or 1938 unstyled B going by heading to his house. $800 and traded a horse. Dad said he was worthless the rest of the day till he got home. Dad also owned a D. It was loud. No muffler, would blow smoke rings once you dropped the plow. Grandpa had an A, the B, and a 50 when he retired from farming. Dad and his brother took the farm on while working jobs as mechanics.
Brian Dufty What?? Never seen a rich farmer. They live on a crop loan which pays living expenses and buys equipment. They pay it back or try to when crops come in. Most are broke and badly in today’s market.
Bullshit, have you seen how much work a new combine takes? Your working on it at least once a week during harvest season the 2 cylinders you rarley have to work on them
@@RyanForst He means the tractor as a whole not just the engine or two months. You see john deere tractors from the 1940's lasting all the way to now in 2019.
"power steering really makes a difference" i mean, sure, john deere's power steering has always been really nice, light and smooth to use, but if only they knew what a pain it will be to set those in the future when no one knows how to do it, I finally got the power steering in my 630 figured out, works great now, but my dads 70 diesel still B lines it hard left when you start it
So at the end there is a 250.000 USD machine, which is less resilient than ever before? I doubt there has been already a better ratio between capital invested and returns in framing history.
I was at a tractor show and they had this little Ford going up against a 4480 or some tractor of that sort anyway so the John Deere had less horse power and torque and still won

I would have thought that the take over of Lanz would have been mentioned because they ware one of the bigger German tractor makers but struggled after WW2 due to them still using the're 1 cylinder 2 tackt eninge's.
