This is the best song on the movie. They're all pretty good but with the choir with the background vocals it really adds so much to it, and the high note at the end of the song.

“Without evil there can be no good, so it must be good to be evil sometimes” Such a profound and touching line. It’s incredible that such an emotionally moving song is sung by the devil. And of course, it’s musically amazing as well. That gospel choir elevates the already amazing arrangement to the next level.
I'm starting to believe this whole song is actually about the abuse Satan wants to escape from Suddam Hussein. "Without evil there can be no good, so it must be good to be evil sometimes" makes it seem like he's trying to justify how Suddam treats him. And his desire to escape Hell, his own home and Dominion, to the surface, just so he can escape how Suddam makes him feel. Suddam actually isn't it any of his plans when he's experiencing the Joy's of Earth.
It's actually the other way around--if good is a fabric, evil is a hole in it. Indeed, Trey Parker is a genius in depicting how good the devil is at twisting things and making it seem legit.

We can even say that he accepts himself and his situation as it all is, as you can understand from the phrase from his song "Without evil there could be no good, so it must be good to be evil sometimes" that here he considers himself evil, he admits that he is evil and is not ashamed of it. He is no stranger to goodness, no, he just forgot and really does not really know what it is and how to get and feel it. He wants true friendship, he wants true love and a normal place to exist, but as he believes after all, there is no better or other way In order to get everything that he wants and everything he dreams of, it is actually to take it all away from those who live above him, and He is even more malicious because they enjoy life while he sits in the fiery abyss. And he hates Christ, because he sees in him what he could have been if he had not become proud and wanted to be like his father, and for this he would not have staged a rebellion, would not have started a war in heaven, and most importantly, would not have corrupted the first people out of resentment against him. And he believed that the destruction of the Lord's new favorites would satisfy him and bring him closer to the dream of a better life. But God forgave him a long time ago, knew and believed that sooner or later he would be able to change, become the same and return to him, which he did, at first he simply established a relationship with the Father, and then when he saved the main characters from ManBearPig, that is, consider that he overcame his Pride, the sin that in fact led him to the fall, he didn't stand aside and just look from afar, and he made up his mind, and defended them, he learned to love truly, if he had not loved and not made friends with boys, then it is unlikely that he would have begun to save them, and they were unlikely to be able to show him the right path, and in fact, sacrificing his own life, he finally became what he once was, the same great angel of God, who brings light and dreams, and who has found his own dream, to live UP THERE.

I went to see The Book of Mormon about 5 years ago for my birthday. And during the intermission, the entire line for the men’s restroom started singing this song. Best bathroom break I’ve ever had
I was quite young when this came out and my mom wouldn't have it if I watched it. My brother once watched this and I happened to be in the room, so for years and years I've had this specific song stuck in my head with no clue where it was from.
You know it's funny. when I was younger this was one of my most hated songs in this film. Now it's become possibly the opposite, it holds much more of a burden now than my childish views could see. Kinda emotional really just thinking about it. c;
This movie just appeared on Netflix in the past fees days. I watched it again after a long time. And this done was moving, and I completely agree, I never understood the depth of the song until I got older.
What is amazing about this movie is that past the beautiful songs, past the brave social commentary, it is also an entertaining movie with an incredibly emotional ending.
Yes. It's pretty much not even a joke at this point, he's a fully fleshed out character with development and everything, who just happens to run Hell lol
Straight White Cis Male Oppressive Shitlord Lots of similarities since Ariel, Quasimodo, and Satan want a chance to live with people. And the name of the songs; Part of your world, Out there, and Up there. To me there are only 3 differences. 1 Two are Disney 2 One is sung by a girl 3 The Disney ones don't have the devil
I know this movie is supposed to be funny, but, I have to say I absolutely loved the songs in it. I am a semi professional song writer and this song in particular just blew me away. I'm jealous.
Chills. Everytime. I can't watch the movie without getting chills and goosebumps every time someone sings because the songs and choreography are just so good!
I just saw the 25th year anniversary sing-along in theaters with my friends, we all sung Satans High note together, and everyone in the theater was laughing at us and fist bumping us at the end of the movie! This is still my favorite song out of the movie. I love them all ofc but this one just hits. I love when he hits that high note too lol
That falsetto at the end is angelic ❤
Satan's falsetto voice is actually done by Michael McDonald, and it's crazy how well his voice blends with Trey's
This song really has no business being this good
Well, now you're finally Up There, Satan. R.I.P.
1:24 THAT “UP THERE, UP WHERE THE SKIES ARE OCEAN BLUE” SLAPS SO HARD AND I JUST CAME BACK TO THIS MOVIE AFTER YEARS
pretty sure its a copy of little mermaid but i like it from the nostalgia parody
Unironically the best song in the whole movie, yeah the songs with loads of swearing are funny but this is genuinely so good
It's like a standard movie musical power ballad, but the context makes it absolutely brilliant.
I can listen to this song over and over and over... never tired of it !
trey parker’s singing is amazing..
That wasnt trey parker singing
@@hiitsmorgan5431 who it
@@hiitsmorgan5431 yes it is, only the high note isn’t trey
@@jonathanielpringlemaniii michel mcdonald
@@mattyoung4990Only the high part. Trey sung the actual song.
I think this is actually really beautiful the voice and everything
“IF ONLY I COULD LIVE UP THHHHEEEERRRRRREEEEEEEEE!!!! (Chorus comes in)”
Love that part
Well yeah, that's the only part that is sung by an actual professional singer(Michael McDonald from Steely Dan)
@@Praisethesunson either way still an excellent part
1:28 I don’t know why I love that rise so much
R.I.P Satan

DAMN YOU MANBEARPIG!!
Can we please take a moment and really think about how talented as a musician Trey Parker is? He's got an amazing voice
You know it's funny. when I was younger this was one of my most hated songs in this film. Now it's become possibly the opposite, it holds much more of a burden now than my childish views could see. Kinda emotional really just thinking about it. c;
I share your feelings. i was wondering if anyone else feels sad when hearing this song..
I always liked the song, but I like ur insight on it tho.
This movie just appeared on Netflix in the past fees days. I watched it again after a long time. And this done was moving, and I completely agree, I never understood the depth of the song until I got older.
Nearly 20 years later and this song still cheers me up.
Ok but why is the message of this song so pure and touching???? It's honestly beautiful 😢😅
This is like if Beast was the main character of The Little Mermaid.
I kinda want to see South Park version of Paradise lost as a musical preferably
Redem10 This song is a evident reference to Milton
Redem10 silver or lead.
What is amazing about this movie is that past the beautiful songs, past the brave social commentary, it is also an entertaining movie with an incredibly emotional ending.
The whole “devil is actually nice” joke was perfected by the South Park crew
Yes. It's pretty much not even a joke at this point, he's a fully fleshed out character with development and everything, who just happens to run Hell lol
Did anyone notice the reference to the Little Mermaid with the end part?
XD
AmethystEyes97 No and even to be honest I haven't seen the Littler Mermaid in a long time, so what is the reference?
where he is reaching to the surface, she does the same pose in the song "Apart of Your World".
AmethystEyes The whole number's a parody of Part of Your World, as well as Out There, from The Hunchback of Notre Dame.
Straight White Cis Male Oppressive Shitlord Lots of similarities since Ariel, Quasimodo, and Satan want a chance to live with people. And the name of the songs; Part of your world, Out there, and Up there. To me there are only 3 differences.
1 Two are Disney
2 One is sung by a girl
3 The Disney ones don't have the devil
The entire song is a reference to part of that world from The Little Mermaid
I know this movie is supposed to be funny, but, I have to say I absolutely loved the songs in it. I am a semi professional song writer and this song in particular just blew me away. I'm jealous.
RIP Satan. Actually a great South Park character.
I love how the only South Park song without swearing is sung by satan himself. I love this show so much!!!!
Chills.
It was the greatest day of my life and I will never forget about this and unforgettable memory of 2024 is upon us! ❤️❤️❤️
Same me and my friend went to we barely sung along to every song because of how hard we were laughing
@@Ajollyfinelad lol
Well what I've learned from this is Trey Parker is a really good singer.
ok that high note/chord change actually gives me chills lol
This is so absurd and good... Top notch production for a "parody" piece. Also, enjoying the key changes I hadn't paid attention to before...
For no reason at all this song came into my head this morning. I havent seen this movie in 19 years but I still smashed out the lyrics first time. Its weird what the mind stores for later use.
This whole musical is filled with classics. I'd say 7 of the 10 top South Park songs are in this movie.
I cried in this part cause it was amazing 1:43
This is the one that should've been nominated for an Oscar
Fr. 1:26
0:32 these are Oscar worthy
That "up-there-up-where" progression is an absolute masterpiece of songwriting.
*What is evil anyway*
*Is there reason to the rhyme*
*Without evil there could be no good so it must be good to be evil sometimes*
This honestly is something I think people should ponder before judging things as objective.
