It's telling how you have a good portion of white space around your sketches. I don't know if that is sort of indicative of how you do your life too. It's clean and open. My sketchbooks are erratic ha! But I don't think of my life as erratic. I skip pages, some are crowded, some have a few lines, ha! Anyway thanks for your video, I dig your style. I became aware of you after getting interested in Terryl Whitlatch. I teach window painting on you tube and I consider myself somewhat of a character designer although I am always learning. I have been sketching a lot lately...so nice as an activity in itself, it's akin to meditation.
One of the most interresting sketchbook I've seen because it has a different approach, you can tell it has a purpose : put down ideas. Not only random pretty drawings. I feel motivated to start mine. Thx Bobby.
The drawing with the little bear getting it's heart stolen by the frog made me feel so sad! Can't get that poor little bear out of my mind. When you flipped to the next page, I got the idea of an owl taking the stolen heart from the frog and giving it back to the little bear. Your sketches look amazing even the ones you said you didn't like that much I thought they were very nice.
I love how your art features those cute littles creatures, but at the same time, if you take a closer look it gets darker, scarier and a kind of disturbing sometimes. The contrast is beautiful and it makes it interesting and captivating. Great sketchbook!
Thanks for the tour, I always love seeing sketchbooks ! Your rough sketches have such a beautiful line quality. It's also interesting how small but yet very detailed most of these drawings are. I would love to see more traditional art from you for sure !
This was really great!!! The lil creature w his heart being taken.... ahh.... Y Y . I feel empathy for them, haha. It is super cool to get to see inside your sketchbook! I also think about mothers and how awesome they are. My husband was one of five children, and one time his mother was telling me about how she was just constantly tired when they were little. I felt so honored to have been part of the conversation and felt really in awe of mothers, haha.
Really nice work, thanks for reminding us again that even professionals struggle sometimes with pictures they don't like. I was never interested in drawing animals but you somehow changed my mind, the possibility you have with all the different kinds of animals are just fantastic, doing this with humans would be way different.
Jaw dropping Awesome !! This is my first time seeing anything from you and I am subscribing today ! Loved this tour and look forward to catching up with more of your posted videos .. : )
OMG I did not expect the story about the kindest creature, I came for warm fuzzy feeling and leave with my soul destroyed :D Anyways thank you for this awesome tour, I love all those hidden stories and would love to see more of them! Amazing :)
I find the allure of Bobby Chiu's work is how cute yet oddly disturbing his work is. They say good art should disturb the undisturbed and comfort the discomforted so Id say Chiu is doing an amazing job!
Really interesting to see a REAL sketchbook-so many are editored versions are not helpful. It gives people such unrealistic expectations of themselves+cripples them to really use a sketchbook effectively. Thanks Bobby.
Great tutorial! I love seeing your drawings you should make a book on how to improve your art skills so that will help me make my drawings look more unique
This sketchbook is incredible. You can tell each drawing was brimming with ideas and made with love. Meanwhile, my sketchbook is filled with ugly, ill-formed boxes and heads that have been through a meat grinder :') But of course, one step at a time! I am only on Day 1! I hope in a few years, my sketchbook can be half as beautiful
Whoa, mmkay bobby wasn't it like a week ago you mentioned being envious of an artist having every sketch in their book look awesooommmmeee!? ... welp that's your sketch book too! Great stuff man.
Robert Bateman sketchbooks are the best. The paper weight and roughness are perfect. Even the spine coil is great, just plug it with an eraser and you can keep your pencils in it.
So many stories in one sketchbook. Amazing! Loved the bear which hypnotises and makes the frogs his followers. Reminded me of cult followings that happen these days.
I love your drawings. There was an old edition of 'Wind in the Willows' that had a fantastic artist and when they made a new edition a new artist was used whose work was in a newer 'simplified' style that was far inferior. If someone ever makes a new edition I would hope that you would do it. Your drawings have tons of character and humor.
The position on the page matters, too. Those who put drawings on the left side are looking to the past and to a nurturing presence, while the right side is the future and a need to communicate. Drawings that are at the bottom of the page often mean insecurity or feelings of inadequacy. When drawing figures, the size matters. Those who are larger are the more dominant personalities, while those without arms are non-aggressive. Those with exaggerated hands might mean someone who is aggressive, while tiny feet might mean a child is feeling unstable or off balance. By the type of you drawings techniques and size< I think you are perhaps feeling unstable and shy and you are often thinking in the past, Bobby! I just deducted from your drawings, that doesn't mean that is all true! But it is odd that you draw 1,2 tiny images on a single page in a sketchbook!
Hm, never heard of them! I'll have a look. Now that I think about it though ever since I moved here I kinda just splurged on giant moleskins in order to guilt myself into drawing more (doesn't work...)
It was ok at first. I thought should I speed this to 2 (I usually do on sketchbooks I hate rants during sketchbooks and the forever flips) but I Kept it normal for a min to see if this is gonna be one of those annoying ones. Btw I really beyond appreciate the added photo on the side so you can really see it. Which all sketchbook uploaders would do this tho personally I cant cuz idk how. I really like the stories and explanations of you drawings ( congrats ur the first) and by 6:02 you got me commenting and subscribing. I like the pic its good great line work everything is up to par but when you explained it I just feel in love with it. Anyway. Thanks for sharing.
Your sketch book is super clean and organized... Mine looks like WW3 happened inside of it, but I'm so close to finishing it finally (first sketch book to finish ever)
?!? Why only use one side of the paper? You're only using half the sketchbook. Plus, you're working in pencil so there isn't any marker to bleed through
It's understandable, as drawings behind the page will rub against drawings on the opposite page, resulting in drawings on both sides to have unpleasant smudges... but I continue to draw on both sides anyways! It seems to be more of a problem with the ringed sketchbooks. The hardbound books don't smudge as readily. But I notice that if I use two large rubber bands (or hairbands) on my sketchbook, one going across and the other going down, it tends to keep the pages from smudging. But smudging is inevitable, the best solution is to have a thin piece of paper between each page.
There's no wrong way to use a sketchbook. Everyone is different. I guess the key is to find a way that gets you to draw, draw, draw. I've seen some really great artist who sketch on one page, then skip a couple blank ones, then sketch again. Then there are those who try to fit as many into one page.
The "abuse of kindness" sketch was really good. It was like he didn't even know he was being abused.
It was really good but itbwas sad
it made me so sad!!
Me too! Man, stuff like that really hits me...
It made me sad too
I can even smell the inspiration from across the screen.
These are absolutely gorgeous. So strong storytelling in each little sketch and thumbnail. Thank you so much for sharing your sketchbook.
thanks Elli
Hope you can show us more of your sketchbooks!!!😃Nice video!
thanks Gimic! I have a ton more sketchbooks

Love the little knight trying to kick dinosaur butt. Such an awesome little concept, crying out for a painting ;)
I love how your art features those cute littles creatures, but at the same time, if you take a closer look it gets darker, scarier and a kind of disturbing sometimes. The contrast is beautiful and it makes it interesting and captivating. Great sketchbook!
It is very Made in Abyss.
You have the cutest sketchbook ever, I had so much fun watching it 😭💕💕💕
Glad you liked it!! 😄~ Ashley
9:12 when you drew another bird while having a flipthrough 😂 that passion
So much fun. I love peaking in to other artist's minds. Thanks so much.
ohhhh bobby of course it will be so good to see another sketchbook, and if you have old old sketchbook will be very nice to see it!
hmmm... an old old one... I'll think about that.
Oh my god i am so in love with your style. the characters you create are so adorable.
Thanks for the tour, I always love seeing sketchbooks ! Your rough sketches have such a beautiful line quality. It's also interesting how small but yet very detailed most of these drawings are. I would love to see more traditional art from you for sure !

One of the better sketchbooks I’ve seen. I was surprised by how deep the thought was for these sketches.
Really nice work, thanks for reminding us again that even professionals struggle sometimes with pictures they don't like. I was never interested in drawing animals but you somehow changed my mind, the possibility you have with all the different kinds of animals are just fantastic, doing this with humans would be way different.
I loove your style!!! I always go towards that sketchy but clean ink style, i just love that so much

I find the allure of Bobby Chiu's work is how cute yet oddly disturbing his work is. They say good art should disturb the undisturbed and comfort the discomforted so Id say Chiu is doing an amazing job!
Beautiful work :) It's so interesting to hear your stories behind the ideas. Thanks for sharing.
You are master at drawing the frog, great work! lol!
thanks. Frogs are fun
Oh damn, your sketchbook says so much about you, Bobby.
really? ok cool :)
Thank you for sharing this. I like the way that you draw with story.
So beautiful! almost every sketch is a concept, I wonder what the inside out world would look like in your head :)
All these sketches could turn into some many different children's books or short stories imo, amazing!
Really interesting to see a REAL sketchbook-so many are editored versions are not helpful. It gives people such unrealistic expectations of themselves+cripples them to really use a sketchbook effectively. Thanks Bobby.
This was really interesting to see, I hope we'll see some more sometime! Bobby is such a fantastic artist!

Hm, never heard of them! I'll have a look. Now that I think about it though ever since I moved here I kinda just splurged on giant moleskins in order to guilt myself into drawing more (doesn't work...)
Mesmerizing

@@BobbyChiu just wanna say that your friends plant soooo cuteeee 🤣 i cant take it 😢💙

Robert Bateman was one of the many wildlife artists I admired and studied back in the 90's in HS days.
Relaxing video
I have a weird bittersweet feeling after watching this... it's so beautiful and cute, but the stories are so creepy 😂💕✨
I caught myself feeling really bad for the cute doggy creature... love the drawing btw
In love with 13:10
Thumps up!
Me:when did you finish all these drawing??
Bobby Chiu:I don't know
Haaaa haa ha
Your sketch book is super clean and organized...
Mine looks like WW3 happened inside of it, but I'm so close to finishing it finally (first sketch book to finish ever)
I saw it really well !!! ^^
Ohh, you draw tiny too! Everyone keeps telling me to draw big. Now I can tell them, "BOBBY CHIU DRAWS SMALL TOO."
Relaxing video :)
Love your humor haha

Just in case I want to take out any of those pages to paint or what not... I don't want drawings on both sides
and it's cleaner that way... less smudging

Great drawings. 😀🖒
how do you get the eyes so dark?
