They only need love and tenderness! That is all they need to survive these wonderful darlings❣️Fortunately they get lots of it from you in your beautiful 'haven' of a farm! You are absolutely admirable!
Especially since he was bred for it and comes from a long line of horses who were as well! You can tell he's in his element. He sure has learned it all very quickly, hasn't he? Another sign that he's happy and feeling good about doing it, right? 😀
Oliver is so smart and obedient. What a magnificent sweetheart! I love his big, beautiful feathered feet. He has come a long way from that half dead, defeated wretch that you rescued. You can't help but love this wonderful guy. His story would make a great book and movie. ❤️😍❤️
Hello Homestead Horsemanship family. The colts and fills look great, and are all so gentle. Oliver's training is really progressing well, he is very quick picking things up! I'm impressed with that cross-footed turn. JR, I'd suggest some WD40 for your cart, it's very squeeky😊.
He did so well. Way to go Oliver. JR, if it's not constructive criticism it's just people looking for attention or trying to make others miserable. Not anything important. The foals and Oliver are doing amazing and your family should be proud of all they've done. Thank You for sharing it with us.
What a great visit to the homestead! The foals have gotten so big! They're all so sweet and look great. I'm delighted that Magnolia has come around! She's conquered her fear and can enjoy her life with you now. Poor Winnie. I know her former owners meant no harm, but she must have suffered. She needs to heal mentally as well as physically. I'm hope she understands soon that she's really safe now. And Oliver! What a good boy! He does behave like a pro, even pulling 2 people for the first time. He picked up his feet so nicely, he showed off his new shoes! The ride in the cart was fun -- although it would be good if those screechy wheels got greased before the next time.😉
Have to add another entry here I'm overjoyed to get to see Oliver and pulling JR and Becca behind him and as Oliver was going at a quicker pace or trot, I imagined what it would be like in snow maybe yall in a bit larger sled, and how wonderful that would be be 🥰. So happy to see him doing natural things that other Clydesdales do. In my mind Oliver is the Lead of All the Budweiser Clydsdales pullung their big ole wagon!! He is such an inspiration story for us All❣️❣️❣️❣️❣️❣️❣️
@@shawnabeach1732 yes, a beauty who pulled at the heartstrings when they rescued her and her momma from auction. They were so scared I thought magnolia might carry her trauma forever. So good to see her sudden release of that burden. ❤️
I have never owned a horse, but I love watching this channel. I have always loved draft horses. They are so gentle and beautiful. Several years ago, I went to Mackinaw Island where everything is done with horse drawn vehicles. Motorized vehicles are banned from the island. The heavy work was done mostly by teams of Belgians, while the passenger carriages were pulled by horses that were cross bred with a draft horse. We took a ride in a carriage and the driver told me that every morning when she went to the barn to get her team, they would get so excited once they saw her get the harness out. It was obvious they loved to work and when they saw another team out on the road, they would try to pick up their speed to get ahead of the other team. She would have to hold them back. The horses in a team were always the same two for each team and the driver told me that they would graze next to one another when out in the pasture too.
Oliver is one lucky horse...you guys are just amazing and I applaud you for all your love and patience in taking care of so many animals on your property.
Rebecca has a natural hand for horses, some have the gift, most don’t! For her age she’s amazing with the older and the foals! Oliver is taking to that harness like a duck to water!
Don’t worry about those who don’t know that horses need to have jobs or they get bored… and bored is dangerous for everyone!! You’re doing a wonderful job with him. Even if I can’t follow your gee/haw substitutes! 😂
You asked about Oliver's britching strap. It's fine where it is. If you want more confirmation of this, watch Horse Drawn Promotions with Barry Hook. He shows on every video the hind end of every horse he's driving, be that in a pair or single. And you will see that your britching strap is exactly where it needs to be, JR. I hope this information helps you out. Your friend, the Retired Paramedic and Horse Trainer in Ontario, Canada, Jenn 💖 🇨🇦
@vernaedwards7263 It's an old cart that just needs to be greased and oiled up. That's all. It's perfectly fine for what JR wants Oliver to do. Especially as JR is still training him at this point. Best Regards and many blessings for a good week ahead of you. From a Retired Paramedic and Horse Trainer in Ontario, Canada, Jenn 💖 🇨🇦
@@GriffinKiddos I can't agree more!! I've watched every single video at least once, and a few of them more than once, and I learn so much from every video he puts out. My thoughts too. Certainly don’t want to bring it up higher! Check that it’s not too tight. He needs to be able to move his legs back without it rubbing on him too much. Hard to see with the movement of the vehicle though. Our rule of thumb was a hand in between whilst standing still.
GR8 job with all your horses!!! LOVE seeing Oliver's adventures! Never mind the arm chair quarter backs out there JR, they have NO CLUE what farm life and farm working is all about! Tell em not to choke on their food while complaining about farmers! You're doing FANTASTIC!!!
I wasn't able to watch live, but really enjoyed your video today! The foals are so sweet and clever. I'm glad Magnolia has warmed up to her people - she's such a pretty thing! Thanks for the cart ride with Oliver! I felt like I was actually riding with you! It's been a real treat to be with you on a Sunday afternoon! Howdy from rural Maine!
I think Oliver is so good and willing to learn is because he absolutely knows you saved him from a terrible life, I realise I'm humanising him but I truly believe it, I think he'd do anything JR asked him to do because he trusts you. 🐎🐴🐎
I agree with you. I have a dog that I saved and I have never had any animal that loves me and shows it like her . Even my vet commented that " she sure loves you" 🤠

Love this - so great, sweetest foals! feels like I’m right there with you. Oliver’s amazing, especially on that last turn around, even I could see he did an outstanding maneuver. His leg crossovers were incredible, I was holding my breath while watching him do this ‘ballet’ move in his new shoes with no hesitation. He owns this new job, blessings to all - great training JR!
Great job with all the horses and so nice to see Oliver doing so well with the cart. Don’t worry about the negative comments….. looks like Oliver enjoys his rides 🥰
JR..you were asking about the breeching. It needs to be up a little higher, so the horse doesn’t get sores on the back legs below the hamstring muscle group while striding. I always used the crupper as well, because it keeps the sursingle from sliding forward along with the spider/aka back & hip strap/ trace carrier. It is an individual choice though. Working horses with Jim youtube channel has some lesson videos that show correct position and tightness for breeching on a working draft horse that protects from chafing issues. Great job with training Oliver. 28:51

You said that some people were not happy about Oliver being trained to work a little. To me it is much more stimulating and enriches an animals life and experience to learn new things and have a role. Do they think a collie who just eats and sits in front of a fire all day and gets overweight has the best life...definately not. You can see the enjoyment and purpose they have when working with sheep. So long as an animal is not overworked I feel its a good thing. The best life is surely a bit of work and play, as well as good owners ❤❤❤
