That turned out amazing always trust your instincts even when others may not agree with it don't know how many times I really didn't like my work but everyone else loved it well done sir.
I have never run a lathe before, but I think I would have cut the corners off before I started. Just a suggestion. You made a comment of maybe I will ruin it. You can never ruin it, just change from what you were expecting to a different treasure. Another suggestion. You should make some sort of jig to use with your router for the plate you screw on. That way you get a even surface for the plate. Remember these are suggestions from a lay person. Any way you look at it, it is a great looking piece.
Nice bowl, Jason. I think the finish was great. I know you can't unring a bell but apparently you can unturn wood (around 7:00). I also expected you to undrill a hole. Bill
Yep, somebody ought to invent 'smelavision' for all those aromatic woods. I'll bet John will be happy to get this. Thanks for the time to put this video up Jason.
When I seen that block spinning around, it scared me from pa, you must have nerves of steel. beautiful end results what a talent, Jason.................. btim sw pa
Jason, another interesting play on wood turning! There are SO MANY ways to finish that! Its too bad you don't have a chance to try other methods. But this 'turned' out beautiful. That material is so hard to find,... that kind of old growth lumber, (100+years old) thats been milled maybe 100+ years ago to repurpose into something else from our American History.
@@NorthwestSawyer You said you wanted to have a black type of finish. I was thinking, you might have used a handheld propane torch, charred the bowl while on the lathe, the resin would have been lighter after sanding, then put a finish coat over it.
Jason, that was exciting to watch, I was holding my breath that it would not explode like the osage orange. It looks beautiful. When I sent it to you you I never expected any thing in return, I just wanted to see what could be done with it, but I am thrilled you are gifting it to me. Thank you! How about some ancient Eel river Sycamore next? John
Jason, there are sanding discs called STERATED /NOFIL they will be blue or white in colour, designed to not clog with resinous timber ,paint or varnish.
@@NorthwestSawyer incomes as a kit you get a jar of the sanding paste then a jar of the wax it's good stuff and made here in the states by a fellow woodturner.

Thank you as always, Jeff!
I think it turned out nicely. It did bring some darker age look to it. Great work.
Thank you, Clyde!
Love what you did with angle of the bowl and the finish looks spectacular.
Thank you!
Nice one John .Give and thou shall receive
He’s been a long time viewer. Great guy!
looks really good-- I like the uneven top -- it adds a lot of character
Thank you! It’s definitely not original but certainly different 😉
I'm glad that you seem to really enjoy your turning. We do too. The results are great. Keep it up.
Thank you! It’s very satisfying. Any chunk of wood can become something interesting…
So very cool❣️❣️I loved watching the video ♥️
Thank you!
Thanks for the great bowling session, Jason. No exploding pieces of work is always good. Great video thumbs up.
Thank you, Craig! I’m going to use that in a video… bowling!!! Brilliant!😉

I was worried about cutting too much off with the offset wobble I was putting in it. It really turned pretty easily being a softer wood.
Beautiful figuring and a loverly bowl congratulations.
Thank you very much!
@NorthwestSawyer praise where its due
Great bowl. That old growth pine does hold some smell. The dark monocote worked fine. Well done.
Thank you, Doug!
Thank you for taking the time to manage the video's, God bless you & your family.
Kind regards are sent from Yorkshire.
Steven.
Thank you very much, Steven!
That came out great Jason.
Thank you, Barry!

I’m going to have to make these harder!😂
Beautiful piece of wood.
Thank you!
Another beauty!!! Gorgeous piece!
Thank you, Anthony! It made to its owner today😉

I think people would change the channel on this one!😂😂 it was some strong stuff.

Thank you! I’ve learned patience is key when starting on a bowl. 😉
Grrreeeeaaaaatttt Bowl Jason, well done 🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌
Thank you!!!
Good looking bowl!

I definitely need to add to my finish collection.

Great job. Love the color.

That looks great ❤

It’s my pleasure, John! I hope you have a spot for it. I’ll turn whatever you send😂

Awesome! I’ll definitely be looking for them.
As inexperienced as I am in wood turning I still think I would have started with a round piece of stock. However, it came out very well!
I wouldn’t have been able to get it truly round with the angled mount. At that point I figured it’s just as easy to turn it round.
Love it!!
Thank you!!
What was the smell? Anyway I like the bowl and the texture…rustic. Your getting better on the lathe
PINE!!! Really strong PINE😂😂😂
Not beating up your Rubio just saying I think Howard's feed and wax would of been perfect for this. But I am Impressed with the Rubio.
I definitely need to get some more finishes in my cabinet 😉
@NorthwestSawyer I don't remember if you used any polishing paste or wax but I can say Acks abrasive paste and wax is awesome. Give it a try!
@@williamdodds6104 I’m very interested in trying some. I almost bought some Yorkshire grit recently but my cart was already at $700😂

Can't imagine why you wouldn't knock off the corners first?!?
With the angled mounting, I was afraid of cutting too much off. Not being able to hard wood, it was easy to turn and didn’t take that long.
nice
Thank you!
I like it to
I can't find the bit where you finished the inside of the bowl. What did you use?
I didn’t use anything on the inside. I like the contrasting color between the inside and out.
I guess I didn't miss the finish on the inside. Thanks
if you got a pith in the bowl. it will crack
