JIMMY'S TAKE: Jim Donovan believes Cleveland Browns want a new domed stadium, likely in Brook Park

  • Twenty-four hours after Dee and Jimmy Haslam laid out a plan that had two proposals for a new stadium or a renovated stadium for the Cleveland Browns, it's clear they're saying, "It's time to play hardball."
What do they really want? If the Browns have their choice (and in the end, let's face it, it will be their choice), a new domed stadium is their pick. The Haslams' temperature of their remarks yesterday about the stadium issue seems to be, "Well, we could throw a billion dollars at Browns Stadium. We could give it a facelift." But it really doesn't come near what they really desire.
They want new. They want a multi-function venue - yes, a football palace, but so much more.
They want a facility that can be booked year-round. They want Browns playoff games, they want Taylor Swift to choose Cleveland for a stop on tour, they want the Final Four.
They want it all, and listening to them yesterday, I got the feeling they were saying downtown Cleveland just can't give that to them. It appears, in their view, the city instead should move to focus on developing the lakefront, and then fans should drive out to Brook Park on Sunday afternoons to and watch the Browns play.

The BP Location makes a ton of sense from a business perspective. They just need figure out a way to not impact airport traffic during events. The fact that the Browns are willing to invest $2.5B in the development is putting their money where their mouth is.

Gate receipts and media dollars control football for the worse. I'm 90. I watched the original Cleveland Rams defeat the Washington Redskins 15-14 in zero temperature, in 1945. I didn't need a dome to make it the greatest game I have ever watched. Winning made it warm enough.

99% of the time, I am old school. However, on this it is time to think 21st Century. The benefits of an indoor facility to all of Northeastern Ohio far outweigh any benefits from updating the current stadium. Outside of football, the events and opportunities it would bring the area would be tremendous. Build the dome!

Looking at US Bank's event schedule this offseason, they have a Monster Jam in Feb and a few concerts in the spring/summer. That's it, and probably the extent of what could be expected during an average year. Sure you might land a Final 4 once every 20-30 years, and maybe a Superbowl, but that would be 1 and done if it happens at all. It's easy to say if we build it they will come, but there's a bidding process involved for each event and lots of more appealing options especially when it comes to winter events.

I can handle a new stadium, about the only thing that would make me stop rooting for the Browns is if they put a logo on the helmet or change colors, because then they would cease being the Cleveland Browns. I hope they don't start using cheerleaders, because not having cheerleaders has made the Browns unique since 1946.

@StevenC32, So, you're cool if the Haslams move the "Cleveland" BROWNS to Brookpark. Yet, you draw the line as a fan if or when they ever decide to change their brown & orange colors, am I hearing you correctly? That's the deciding factor of the BROWNS identity? Not the fact if they decide to leave the city of "Cleveland" which they're named after? 🤔 WTF-OVER! Although I do agree the team wouldn't be the same if they ever changed team colors to anything other than brown & orange. It's more reprehensible on principle alone for Jimmy & Dee to ever think of moving the BROWNS out of the city of Cleveland to Brookpark. IDGAS if Brookpark is a hop, skip & a jump suburb city on the outside of Cleveland or not. How can they be called the "CLEVELAND BROWNS" if they're not playing football in the city of Cleveland my friend? Not to mention if they do build a new dome stadium in Brookpark it's still gonna be a bigger distraction for the teams & fans at the games whether the dome is open or closed every other minute. All the flights constantly coming in & taking off out of the airport is going to cause controversy & conflict by teams if not start a problem with the NFL. Building a stadium in that Brookpark location is going to be a debacle with all the low flying airplanes coming overhead the stadium at games or any other function they decide to use it for. Just saying... GO-DAWGS! 🤘😜🤘

There is no such thing of homefield advantage because of cold ranny snowy frezzing weather both teams have to play in those bad elements. Home field advantage come from how many home fans you can pack in your stadium . And there noisemakers make it difficult for the other offense to get there play off right. It didnt help us with cold weather when the domed team the saints beat us 2 yrs ago in December friged temp at our stadium they beat us at our own game running the ball. We cant blame DW4 For the loss he ran for 1 td and passed for 1 td. We had 2 tds dropped by our best recviers Coop and the Chief in that icey cold weather. Looks like we forgot how to play in the cold . Run the dame ball . The Saints did. And there always passing in there dome. It didnt help us at home in 1981 division rd playoffs vs the raiders. We missed our field goals they made theres. Thats why the red right 80 was our mistake. We should have kicked the field goal. The raiders were thowing there footballs next to the heaters. Where was the home field advantage there. And what about the AFC championship game vs denver another cold frigged day . The drive. Denver also plays in there home stadium that is cold. Im a fan since 1962. And have been a season ticket holder in old municipal 1979 to 1981. And the new stadium from 08 to 2023. Its time for the dome. What worked in the past dosnt work at the present time. Besides all the good teams in the AFC that make the playoffs play in there stadiums in the cold so if they come to Cleveland they can deal with what we deal with and might do a better job of it. KC BUFFALO CINCINNATI PITTSBURG BALTIMORE NEWENGLAND NYJ DENVER when they become good again. So build a dome pack it and let that crowd noise in a compressed venue be the X factor. Both teams are at equal playing ground no excuse for bad weather. Let the crowd be the deciding factor. Go JH get that dome. Go Browns.......🟧🟫⬜️🟫🟧

Its time to get off that lake front its been a bad omen since 1965. Its time domed stadium. Or retractable stadium dog bowl shaped with a heaping retractable dome that looks like brown and orange and white chunks of dog food heaping out of the the bowl. Or a industrial looking venue shaped like a big dog house with a see threw sky roof thats solor powered. Brookpark is a good place . They would still be called the Cleveland Browns......🟧🟫⬜️🟫🟧
