In one small scene in the beginning of Dragon Ball Z, Gohan broke the rules of dragon ball. It is this moment that set the stage for his character moving forward. This includes many of Gohan's fights on planet Namek, against Cell and the androids and even in the buu saga. Most recently, Gohan continues to break the rules against Max Cell. Qaaman explains this anime and manga related video about Gohan today.

@@QaamansLand I would say the biggest reason is Gohan’s potential. Gohan’s potential is greater than Goku’s was as a kid and Gohan’s potential is what allowed him to help take down Raditz while be untrained.

I would love to see a clip where when gohan as a kid gets his potential unlocked, after everyone leaves, maybe someone comes in to talk to the namek and he says something like "the boys potential was limitless, I merely gave him some of my ki and told him his potential was unlocked, in all my years I have never felt a lifeform with no depths to their potential, the future of that child is most intriguing" or something like "I could not find an end to his potential, it took all my power to unlock as much as I could, but it would appear the childs potential is limitless, a power I have never seen!"

I thought that raditz and Vegeta didn't really encounter any zen Kai boost scenarios, considering the fact that they "were" already considered elite warriors, and we're never pinned in a situation that would have resulted in neer death. He might have a lot of fighting experience, but no zen Kai. Vegeta didn't even know it existed.

lol i kinda feel bad that no matter what they do, it will never make me be a gohan fan. it honestly sucks because gohan has been involved in a lot of moments, i want to be a fan but nothing is sticking to the wall for me. i will say the only time i have been a fan of gohan is the beginning of the buu saga when he was a peter parker basically and being the friendly neighborhood great saiyan, i was so invested in that but sad it was short lived.

Honestly I think Gohan's best childhood feet was him knocking garlic Jr Into the Dead Zone when his father and Piccolo were starting to fight after they thought they garlic Jr was defeated before he came back and opened up the portal to the Dead zone. I believe that the Dead Zone movie took place before Raditz appeared and the first episodes of Dragon Ball Z

I didn’t intentionally watch DBZ at the time but I basically acted like an anime character. I rushed at this bigger kid and knocked him down, aggressively shoved others kids at recess. Violence and being an unintentional asshole (I was brutally honest as a kid) meant I eventually got banned from going on field trips and then my mom got into an argument with the principal, police got involved and suddenly I was transferring schools in like the last 2 months of kindergarten. Basically I was stupid and didn’t realize I was a bully lol. Ironically I became a super nice and innocent kid like Gohan in first grade.

It’s not too hard to believe, given the Gary Stu like power up he got in the Buu saga, the precedent was set for him to simply receive power ups without much struggle or effort. Doesn’t change the fact that it still feels cheap, and Gohan Beast feels cheap as fuck.

I'd say it's more Goku that broke Dragon Ball. With the constant ridiculous power ups he was given, by poor story telling, you in turn have to give every other character it's own ridiculous power up. Gets pretty boring having the same character do everything.
What about Goten and Trunks?
Vegeta and Nappa have a conversation on their way to earth where they state that saiyan/human hybrids will be stronger than pure blooded saiyans and they say that they're going to breed a bunch of Super Saiyans... this was the first mention of Super saiyans in the series

Actually I saw Dragon Ball first I did not see the entire thing because whatever reason they took it off the channel I was watching it on about halfway through no right after the King Piccolo Saga I didn't even get to see Piccolo Junior in the next Ark so yeah I did see Original Dragon Ball first figured he was just one of those magic creatures at first after all the president was a dog there was a Wolfman who preferred his human form and master roshi hypnotized him to think that was the Moon it was all pretty funny

Qaaman what if Gohan had died during the Frieza saga instead of Krillian and Gohan would have gotten a Zenkai boost would that made a difference later on? Is that why Goku apart from training a lot over the years has gotten a lot of zenkai boosts from dying?

Not much would change, Gohan would get blown up instead of Krillin, Goku goes SSJ and things play out the same.
Gohan wouldn't get a Zenkai boost, because thats not how Zenkai boosts work, you have to recover from great injury, Dying wouldn't grant a Zenkai boost because you actually died.
Now there's the possiblity that Dying by Frieza's hand could change Gohan's mindset? either make him more determined to get stronger so he doesn't die again, or even make him more reluctant to fight at all.
It would be a real curveball if they let gohan just lose himself in his latest powerup. I know they wont, but man gohan would be one hell of an enemy. A power crazed chaotic neutral beast gohan. He'd be like kid buu with intelligence.

Their capacity for level of growth should be far beyond what has at that age. But they continue to go back to the "Gohan's Potential" well and pull out anything they can think of no matter how much he CONSISTENTLY slacks off and/or no matter how much sense it doesn't make
@@QaamansLand Goten and Trunks just haven't been pushed to their limits with a traumatic enough experience to trigger their emotional hidden power... Future Trunks finally did it against Goku Black when he achieved Super Saiyan Rage... I think all the Hybrids can theoretically tap into and use their own form of Super Saiyan Rage, its essentially what Beast Gohan is when you really think about it
That's weird because the vast majority of the time he doesn't use this emotion even tho he himself and everyone he cares about and his planet are about to die. It's literally only ever for plot convenience that Gohan gets stronger

I’m just glad they took inspiration from Dragonball AF in his most recent form. Gohan is def the best hybrid with the best potential bc of intelligence and emotional mindset.
TBH DBSSH is cannon to the manga, so you're not wrong for using manga feats. In fact I'd add his rage boost that made him UI omen level or higher in the Moro arc.

he's probably a lot stronger than he shows himself to be in GT since he only uses Super Saiyan 1 and not his Ultimate form or Super Saiyan 2.

the future Gohan no matter how many times he fought the Android still ended up dead even though he's technically should have been stronger than the Androids with the zenkai boost to your seat over the it didn't dragon Ball officially makes it look like kid Gohan has more potential than future Gohan when Future gohan on train a lot more it had more fights even though technically he didn't know super Saiyan 2 existed or it actually didn't exist in his timeline and he later on future trunks could have easily revive Gohan if he would have just went to namek since he could have got the information from King Kai in the past the that coordinates and not to mention a timeline where Future trunks dies and then another timeline when he kills cell in the end which created another alternate timeline who cell didn't exist in the the past that is actually one ware goku lives .
So Gohan did lose his arm when trunks came within the fight Androids it's technically he lost his arm protecting him which he probably wouldn't have lost his arm without doing that
Gohan is a genetic oddity he’s literally a mix race child who somehow expresses recessive traits even though absolutely no one in his mothers line ever had said recessive trait (tail). So I like to think about it as gohan being the biologically perfect mix of positive genetics from both races. While the others hybrids are are close but just not right. Kinda like broly is also a genetic freak of nature just rather than just internal species genetics prompting similar results. I dint think gohan is quite 50/50 human sayajin he’s probably the optimal mix of hybridization (just lacking the psychological warrior aspect’s ) akdo of gohan is anything like goku then future gohan lacking food and resources are definitely dragging down his full output of power he was surprised by the relatively small amount of food. Which would make goku almost unable to fight at all
What about Goten and Trunks?
@@QaamansLand goten and trunks I like to think have similar potential however they seem to fall short. Especially after the whole S cells thing kinda makes transforming into an SSJ 1-3 during more peaceful times significantly less of an accomplishment. Since the duo lived in peaceful times for nearly twice as long as gohan or goku did meaning those transformations would come drastically more naturally to them. Add to that that it’s implied that goten abd trunks would often spend time in vegitas gravity room and it lessens the gains they had especially since the story kinda kneecaps them by making there biggest accomplishments almost exclusively tied to fusion. Gotenks kinda ruins any real shine goten any kid trunks could have. Future trunks who supposedly kept training and even got training from a supreme kai is far less impressive than a gohan who went out to train in secret For one year or just trained for a little over a day with piccolo. Goten and trunks are significantly better than there dads and or most of their race however gohan is a genetic outlier like broly who rather than grow in a linear fashion grows in a geometric rate. Super And the whole S cells thing along with fusion really hurt goten and trunks more than Anything else while bugffung the living hell out of gohan and his growth rate .

Its just the human emotions that makes Hybrid saiyans stronger... Vegeta and Nappa stated this on their way to earth and referred to Hybrids as being Super Saiyans.... Goten and Trunks just never had anything traumatic enough happen to trigger their anger/ hidden power like how Gohan did throughout his childhood... we finally see Future Trunks do this against Goku Black, achieving Super Saiyan Rage....

Further proof that Gohan was already broken from the start. The real issue was bringing out that potential and maintaining it consistently. While also balancing it with proper control. Otherwise it would overwhelm him like with Perfect Cell or against Super Buu. That is essentially a key part of his character arc well half of it at least. The other was him finding his place in the world that he feels he truly belongs in.

Gohan was always way stronger than Goku or Vegeta were at the same age. In DBS Super Hero he's still in his 20s, about the same age Goku was when he returned from Namek. Goku had trained much more, he had fought many more battles and the Ultra Divine Water had also unlocked his potential. And yet, comparing his Super Saiyan power (which we thought was amazing back then) to Gohan's "beast" transformation is like comparing an insect and a dinosaur. The gap between then might be even much greater than between Freezer at his 100% power in Namek and Raditz.

Gohan is one of the worst characters in dragon ball he's literally only plot convenience the character. The vast vast majority of the time the thing everyone uses to say it's just what Gohan does never happens and all of his friends or planet nearly gets destroyed because of it. Super hero shows he's not even a character anything he's just a plot device. Altho I agree some what with the radiz feat being his highest but that still doesn't make sense. So your telling me as a baby he never threw a temper tantrum and had a massive power spike like broly did in the his movie but all of a sudden it just came out against radiz. And you can't use the emotional argument because that's all babies know. Future Gohan is what Gohan would have always been just as shit as present Goten and trunks even with the emotional boosts.
Anime only, but there is a scene where baby Gohan subconsciously reveals his power in a moment of crisis.

There's also a scene before Goku takes Gohan to Kame house where Gohan falls off a waterfall, and when Goku finds Gohan he's hundreds of meters ABOVE the waterfall, the kid had massive power from day 1.

So basically we're coming to a conclusion that gohan is a Mary Sue Who pulls BS power ups out of his ass with no training 90% of the time, Yeah that sounds about right, But I know the gohan fans don't want to admit that & say caulifla & kale Broke dragon ball by ruined power scaling, but in reality It was Really gohan, goten and trunks in DBZ
Do... you know what a mary sue is?, A character without flaws.
Gohan is simply a character with the a massive well of power that he cant tap into, and only comes out when pushed to the brink of his emotions, He's essentially a Super Prodigy that can achieve anything but doesn't have the desire to.
But he's also incredibly flawed, at first he's a coward, then he doesn't want to fight and then he stops training and gives up fighting entirely causing all his friends to suffer because he couldn't beat an opponent he should have been able to destroy easily.
If Gohan had been introduced as Goku 2.0, with a desire to fight and trains all the time, alongside his massive power then he would probably be something closer to a mary sue, and very boring.
Gohan being reluctant to fight and being sidelined is the only reason why Goku and Vegeta can even be relevant because the next generation is simply built far superior than they are, its why the decision has been made to sideline Gohan, Goten and Trunks for so long i guess.
