The most subtle thing in the animation for honor and glory is that if you look closely, Honor is represented by their shield and glory is represented by their hammer. At the beginning Balderich is trying to make Reinhart understand that Honor (shield) is more important than glory (hammer). But we see that Reinhart is all about using the hammer (glory) and never his shield (honor). This changes when he realize his mistake and gives his hammer (glory) to Balderich, leaving him with only his shield (honor). That's why Balderich smiles and take the hammer, realizing he finally got to Reinhart and knowing he will become the shield of his unit. It's a very subtle thing but it shows how good the writers for the short were. Also one of the line of Reinhart in the game is "Don't worry, my friends! I will be your shield!". This animoation short made this phrase make so much more sense now.

During the Omnic Crises, each country was developing their own specialized weapon to fight off the omnics. Germany created the Crusaders, a series of heavy armored soldiers with giant shields and hammers. Russia had their damaging absorbing Volskayan mechs. Korea created program MEKA, a group of mech piloted by gamers. US created a super soldier program, Morrison being the 76th soldier in the experiment (hence why hes called soldier 76) and Reyes aka Reaper being soldier 42. So the idea behind Overwatch was that they would recruit soldiers and scientists from each of the countries specialized forces to create a single global task force. Overwatch reached out to Baldrich since hes the leader of the Crusaders, but because he died, he gave the invitation to Reinhardt instead
The best thing about this short is that is really reflects Reinhardt in the game. Little fun fact: If you pay attention, inside the game you can hear the chracters talk and interact with eachother, and it's here where we can see how Reinhardt took his commander's petition to heart, telling the team to stand behind him, that he will protect them and, sometimes, basically quoting Balderich by saying "I WILL be your shield!"

G-Mineo That was a great suggestion from Aaron Patron! I am such a fan of Overwatch lore, so in my opinion you guys should see them before the origin stories, as they tie up a lot with Overwatch’s past. You will see known and new characters in these clips, but then you guys can see the origin stories next, as they present each hero which was launched after the game’s original release. Excited for the next videos, and eventually Zero Hour for OW2!

Reinhardt is the best designed character in Overwatch. Probably one of the best in any game really. His gameplay meshes with his lore and personality perfectly. He is the epitomal example of a tank, he has the most flexible shield which can be moved and deployed at complete will. But.... players playing him are CONSTANTLY tempted to drop the shield and go for extremely risky plays. Rein is the only shield tank who can't attack and shield at the same time.. Orisa, Sigma and Winston all put down their shields and then shoot through them, but Rein just has to stand there with his up. On the other hand doing damage is so highly rewarding to him, Rein's ultimate charges unnaturally quickly for an ultimate when he causes damage to the enemy, but since he's so close range it's hard to charge it up at all sometimes. That jetpack charge he was doing constantly in the cinematic is infact one of the strongest abilities in the game which can instakill any DPS or Support in the game, and even another tank which gets hit by it will almost definitely die shortly afterwards to one or two swings... And even if it misses the enemy now has a Reinhardt in the middle of them swinging a massive hammer around.... But on the other hand if Rein is causing chaos in the enemy's backline there's now no-one protecting his own frontline and his team is vulnerable. Playing Reinhardt feels like you are the guy in the cinematic.
One little fix, the charge isn't instakill unless the wall/collision the just behind the ennemy and if you do it in middle of ennemis you have luck they kill or CC you before you spread your victim on a wall lol However yes Rein is absolute perfect main tank, so much they say they have a very hard time trying to get an other main tank as good as him (that's why we didn't got one simce but an anchor tank and very off tank based ones)

I remember getting into Overwatch last year, i wanted to know about the lore so i watched all the animated shorts in order and was like this is amazing why isnt this a movie?!
Because it take them around six monthes to make one ~10 minutes short so imagine how long it is to make 1h30/2h or how much cost for bigger team but efforts to keep quality. However an OW film (and/or serie) could totally come at some point and *hopefully* in hand animated 3D/2D and not in motion caption capture or other methods not fitting with OW's style but probably not until some year(s)
Fun fact: you can see Eichenwalde Castle (the resting place of Balderich in this cinematic) in the background of "The Last Bastion" cinematic when Bastion is walking through the forest.
12:21 yes, Baldereich (as the other one was called) was also a tank but he as we got to see he never made it in to the overwatch force because they only took in one person from each defense force from each country like for example Reinhardt is from the crusader army who are all the same type off people in these giant armors, Phara who (comes in long after overwatch was started ) is a sample of the helix army of Egypt and reaper and soldier:76 are the only members that we know of that came from the same defense force which is a group of men that’s kinda like Captain America with their modifications and that stuff.
Very cool to see you guys react to this, one of my favourite Overwatch shorts along with The Last Bastion! Can't wait to see till you guys watch Sigma's origin story!
It's so much fun to watch people be introduced to the amazing overwatch animated shorts. It lets me relive the entire experience for the first time again.
I'm not interested in playing Overwatch at all, but I hope Overwatch 2 is popular enough for us to one day see older Brigitte say "I have been called. I must answer. Always."
Ok wtf this is trippy Wasnt expecting to see the wade concept on a random reaction channel in my reccomend vids Didnt know he did stuff like this before boxing commentary stuff
In the lore, Crusaders are to be left at the spot where they die and their armor becomes their tomb to tell their story. If you play on this map in-game (Eichenwalde) he is in fact still there in that chair, and you can even see the Overwatch coin in-game where he placed it
If it wasn’t for the way the line was spoken the second time, “live with honor, die with glory” sounds like it could’ve been a code the Spartans lived by or something.
I've been following the Overwatch voice actors during around this time. And if you saw Reinhardt's actor (Darin De Paul) on events, he's really jolly and enthusiastic about just everything. So when this cinematic came out at that time, I was really pleasantly surprised on how intense his performance played out. I think IIRC this was the first cinematic where both actors for Reinhardt and the other crusader were both in the studio for the recording. The actors record separately and alone most of the time. (this was talked about when Darin was on Blizzcon 2017)
There aren’t any cinematics that involve the true Talon soldiers and heroes and stuff like there. Widowmaker and Reaper are both agents of Talon but if you want to see the Talon soldiers, you can watch the Retribution trailer and maybe gameplay. It also gives you a good look at Blackwatch. One of the heroes in Blackwatch (Reyes) turns into Reaper later on.
After this short originally came out, you seen A LOT of Reinhardt players change their playstyles...because a lot of them was doing the cocky charge forward of the Young Rein...but after this..even more became the team's Shield.
This is Reinheardts story of how he became a soldier. The girl you see in the beginning of the cinematic is Torbjörns daughter, Briggite. The other guy in the giant suit of armor was his Commander, he died protecting his troop. Against a group of omnics known as OR15, also know as Orisa, but the character Orisa is just like Bastion, Has a consciousness and was repaired/reborn.
4:10 “I didn’t know Germany existed in the lore.” Overwatch takes place in a future-fantasy version of our world. Reinhardt is German, Tracer is English, Widowmaker is French, Zarya is Russian, etc..
This story is even more relatable because Reinhardt here is just like every other Reinhardt main - reckless charges and playing for kills at the beginning, to team-focused shield play when you get better at the game and the character.
The only thing I still think about when I watch this cinematic is; at the start in the bar; when the bartender slides the drink to the guy giving rein shit... like how big is that beer?!?! Because when rein picks it up, it’s normal sized... so, how big would it be compared to the other dude?... lols
You should all also watch the behind the scenes video for Honor and Glory, where Michael Chu, the former head writer, breaks it down and a few extra ideas they had that didn't make it. Also, I recommend checking out the other Blizzard cinematics, including the origim shorts of Overwatch. Definitely watch Winston's message, as you'll get a better understanding of both what Brigitte meant in the beginning, and the upcoming short, Rise and Shine. Also, minor correction and lore: Reinhardt is the lieutenant, Balderich was a colonel, and they both belonged in the Crusaders, Germany's line of defense during the Omnic Crisis. Overwatch originally wanted Balderich, which is why he had the Overwatch token, but as shown in the short, he gave it to Reinhardt since he sacrificed himself to make sure he and his troops made it out.

Thank you for watching! We can't wait either:)
Always."
Ok wtf this is trippy
Wasnt expecting to see the wade concept on a random reaction channel in my reccomend vids
Didnt know he did stuff like this before boxing commentary stuff
The dual wielding moment is the best part. He went out like a king.
Yess that part gave us chills!
Finally yes, I subed for you guys to watch these shorts
The flashback part of the "Honor and Glory" short was during the first Omnic War, about thirty years before the main events of the Overwatch games.
Waited for this for soo long👌🏻
"Watching them in order" skips Rise and Shine*
Awesome vid guys! BTW the girl with Reinhardt is Torbjorn's(turret guy) daughter!
No, after this is shooting star and rise and shine. At least that’s what the playlist was set.
@@tranhtu8587 Rise and Shine is definitely before Shooting Star
@@tranhtu8587 Rise n Shine came out august 2017 and honor and glory came November 2017
We accidentally skipped Rise and Shine but it'll be the next reaction vid we put out!:) Thank you for watching Nyfriom!
Hello I loved your stream from yesterday
I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS FOR FOREVER! YES!
fantastic reactions! it was a pleasure to finally see you guys react to this amazing cinematic :)
After this short originally came out, you seen A LOT of Reinhardt players change their playstyles...because a lot of them was doing the cocky charge forward of the Young Rein...but after this..even more became the team's Shield.
also that four legged omnic you saw was OR-14, older model to OR-15 from which parts Efi (little genius girl) built OR-15A, know for you as Orisa
Yall should react to Star Wars: The Old Republic trailers too! Best lightsaber fights ever in those.
YES
Anyone going to point out the map being absolutely incorrect? I did but this cinematic is so glorious I don't even care
How is it incorrect ? In the places of the shots ?
In a crusaders oath, they swear to that if they die in battle, their armor becomes their tomb
I've been trying to find recent reactions and ran into this NOICE
I've been looking forward to this!
I just realized. YOU SKIPPED RISE AND SHINE!
4:10 “I didn’t know Germany existed in the lore.”
Overwatch takes place in a future-fantasy version of our world. Reinhardt is German, Tracer is English, Widowmaker is French, Zarya is Russian, etc..
I know I’m a little bit late but the guy in gold is balderich and he’s not the liutenant Reinhardt is
Reinhardt learned a valuable lesson that day that came at a very high cost; thankfully it seems he took it to heart.
I love your reactions so much, you guys are the best
This story is even more relatable because Reinhardt here is just like every other Reinhardt main - reckless charges and playing for kills at the beginning, to team-focused shield play when you get better at the game and the character.
Yoooo I can't wait for them to get into the other shorts and cinematics
I love the comment: "He's a tank?" after seeing him charge through the bastions
The quadraped omnic that stabbed Reinhardt is an older version of one of the champions, Orisa.
Lived as a Man
Fought as a Warrior
And Died a King brimming with Honor! And GLORY!
I've been looking forward to this
Keep it up y’all great content much love 🤘🏼
5:56 “is that a champion or is a...” Or-is-a... Orisa >:00000 HE KNEW IT ALL ALONG
17k??? Damn ur channel grows so fast
I'm watching this 2 years later and I got tears pouring down my face even though I already know what's gonna happen 😭
4:29
Is that Seargant Calhoun from Wreck it Ralph?
I’ve been waiting for this
One thing I find great about OW is that you play the maps and recognize stuff from the cinematics and vice versa
The only thing I still think about when I watch this cinematic is; at the start in the bar; when the bartender slides the drink to the guy giving rein shit... like how big is that beer?!?! Because when rein picks it up, it’s normal sized... so, how big would it be compared to the other dude?... lols
fun fact: after this animation a lot of players actually used the shield of Reinhardt way more often, kind of amazing i think
I’m so happy they reached this cinematic. This is one of my favourite cinematics.
Poor Boulderrash, went out swingin though!!
