Life cycle of whitefly

- Whiteflies form a major threat for many vegetable and ornamental crops. The adults can be recognized by their waxy wings. Whiteflies have well developed needle-like mouthparts. They extract sap from the underside of plant leaves and secrete honeydew. This honeydew, in turn, is a nutrient source for sooty moulds.
The female lays her eggs on the underside of young leaves. If she has not yet mated, all of the eggs will develop into males.
The eggs have a white/yellowish colour, are oblong shaped and are often deposited in circles. After one or two days, they become darker in colour.
The nymphs that emerge from the eggs are known as ‘crawlers’. Crawlers move around for several hours before settling on the leaf. They moult into their second stage and become immobile. The nymph starts to feed and begins to produce honeydew. Two further stages will follow. The nymph is flat at first, later changing into an oval, box-shaped pupa with hairs. Eventually the adult emerges.
Soon after emerging, wax is secreted over the entire body.
Adults immediately begin to penetrate the leaf with their mouth parts to feed on plant sap.

Incredible video work, who ever recorded this is a MASTER.,
This is amazing video. I have finally discovered what the little things I keep finding on leaves are so thanks.
Imagine being one of these things... interesting, simple lives, where your roll in life is almost guaranteed to be fulfilled.
When that adult emerges all I can think of is the scene from Starship Troopers where the guy gets his brain sucked out...😱😱😱😱
Amazing video, thank you.
These things multiply like rabbits (or white flies - in this context they're interchangeable)!
Really I appreciate the effort to make this vedio , well done 👏.
Appreciate the work
Now I know how they're destroying my plants 😂😂😂
Very good Videos. Impressed.
It's amazing videos am agriculture student ,this chala videos more knowledgeable. thankyou sir....
Wonderful video
This is more professional video thanks for sharing
More informative ❤❤❤❤
Very very nice video....
Important information in all farmers
Ammazing video👏👏👏
very nice information pl.
none of these videos ever have a zoom out frame. i dont have a microscope handy to check if the microscopic bug im seeing is the same
I got those white flys almost got stuck in ear
And scared me
the white flys was in the bench and catch my ear
Thank you the reef brought me here.
Would have liked to have known the amount of time it takes for each stage as well as the combined amount of time
Well there is a thing called Google. And I wouldn't mind getting there is a Wikipedia page on this insect. Tbh I haven't found much that isn't on Wikipedia!
@@madasahatter5514
Shut up, he is right! As a gardener i would have love to also know the whiteflies timeline!
@@madasahatter5514 I think he knows he can find stuff on Wikipedia, yet his comment makes sense - video would be better if they had added this bit of info that they already had, having filmed their whole cycle.
It varies a great deal depending primarily upon temperature. This video was looking at Trialeuroides, but there are hundreds of species in North America and dozens of agricultural/garden pest whiteflies, each with similar life cycles but different times of development.
So is does the whitefly go through complete or incomplete metamorphosis? I thought was a true bug so it should just have a nymph and adult stage. But it seems to have a pupal stage
Very nice information and pictures. Is it allowed for me to take a part of the video for education video in my youtube? Many thanks
Super
Found the little buggers destroying my Poinsettia. Oddly enough, my Pachira Aquatica (Money tree) was totally clean. Guess they have preferences on what to eat. Hopefully the pesticide and sticky traps do the job.
Hye how long would it take for the adult to immerge??
The crawlers kind of look like little trilobites.
Scary😧😦😮
Does anybody know its alternative host?
Wow
and then i sprayed neem oil
I've tried Neem, and every other presticide. Even the strong ones. I cannot get rid of my greenhouse whitefly infestation. Anyone... Please help?
@@dgpatton My experience is to buy a mosquito catcher - the one using ultra violet light & suction fan . I've got mine from Ace Hardware and use them accordingly. Don't buy cheapo ones as the bulbs might not be producing actual UV light and they do need replacement every 6 mth or so as the amount of UV will reducing all the time.
I switched them on everynight for say 12 hrs and happy to report i haven't seen much of them white flies now.
@@dgpatton
Hi, have you tried any "Spinosad" based product ?
I had a major problem with fungus-gnats, never suspected them for such a highly destructive potential. Anyway(😅..), a single application of a spinosad insecticide was enough, also kept the plants "toxic" for some time as there were "drunk" gnats around the pots for the following weeks.
Later this year, i had a Thrips infestation on my orchids - same results again 😎
Now, even though i hadn't had any real problem with Whiteflies - yet theres always a few here and there, it seemed that they were also affected.
And lastly - i have a root/soil predatory mite(s) "hypoaspis miles" or a similar sp. And they seemed unharmed by the substance 👍
I have had success dwindling thier numbers by heavy pruning and daily spraying with neem oil on the underleaf of my guavas
@@dgpatton yellow sticky traps .. i finally killed them with these
I was hoping to learn how to properly kill them so you can add the ending to this video. No joke
which kind of whiteflies is this?
Trialeurodes vaporariorum
How much time take a egg to grow a adult white fly
28 days
I have them on my avocado pretty much impossible to get rid of them...
Brice Very diluted Neem oil.
@The Push diluted pepper 🌶️ spray?
GOD I HATE THOSE BUGS!!!!!!
I threw my hands up and have gone scorched earth on this scourge from God and killed off all my plants. Whats driving me nuts is finding out how long the eggs and adults can live once the plants are gone and thanks to crap search engine results im still looking.
I hate that thing for my chilies.
these called bimicia tabaci
no they are the greenhouse whitefly Trialeurodes vaporariorum.
😉
Forget evolution... these creatures could only be created by a God like power. I wonder if God just decided to create a white fly or if it came into existence from other God made creatures cross mating.
Yes, as it doesn't seem to have any 'useful' purpose other than torment!😲
destroyed our coconut tree
Singadalawan bos, iin mungkin lain waktu akan saya masukan ke salam channel anggur saya
So in stage one it goes from being born mobile to becoming immobile? Weird. I'm sure it made sense to evolution though. 🙂
wondered........................."'master piece of work'" but hurted by seeing views even dirty video uncontent videos goes viral....why cant you koppert......????????????????????
They are the worst nature enemy's alongside ants, and mealybugs!
I hate them
