Is 15 months old too late to let a baby "cry it out" through the night?

    Cry it out has been a horrible thing for us. My son is 16 months old, happy baby during the day never been a great sleeper. I was rocking him to sleep and he would sleep most of the night, wake and I would have to do it again. Everyone said cry it out etc... so I am on day 4 and it SUCKS. He won't cry himself to sleep, he won't lay down. He stands and screams and I eventually just go hold him and he goes to sleep. Last 2 nights he falls asleep in my arms, but freaks at the crib. He gets tense and has only slept a total of 9 hours (nap and night) two nights ago and only 7 yesterday/last night. I am exhausted, he is exhausted. Now rocking doesn't even work. He does not take a pacifier, I am his comfort. I should have never listened. Taking away your toddlers comfort just feels mean and now we are more screwed up than we were before. I have no idea what to do, I am desperate, but CAN NOT let him cry more than an hour. Goes against every fiber of my being.

      Hello Stacy, I just read your post and completely agree that cry it out is just a big no.My 15 month old daughter does exactly what you discribe in your comment. We rock her to sleep most of the time but if she does wake up in the night we take her to our bed as it's the only way she will sleep. She used to settle by herself and nap twice a day also by herself but I don't know what has happened now she just hates her cot and will stand up and cry and cry until we pick her up. I know your post is 4 month old but I was just hoping to hear an update on how did you get on and if that was just a phase or did you come up with something that helped.i am desperate and would love to hear from someone who went through the same thing. I want my happy little sleeper back. Thanks a lot X

      CRY IT OUT IS CHILD ABUSE!!! Please PLEASE stop doing this to infants. Babies under 2 do not know the difference between "sleep training" and neglect. So there's no difference. Babies cry for a reason, even if it's just attention. There have been studies that show a baby would rather have its social needs met than food.

    Thank you so much! My baby girl is such a cuddler! So it's SUPER hard to not respond and give in to holding her! But she needs to learn to sleep in her own bed! Thanks again!!💕

    I tried this with my first daughter she was already one. All i did was put her down at 9 and started cleaning my kitchen🤷🏽‍♀️ when i was done she was out! And the next day she already knew. That girl went straight to sleep at 9 o clock she is 6 years old now sleeps on her own and in her own bed i know way to many people where this kids take over their lives and ruin their sex lives as well!!. Now my second daughter is a solider! She will scream until i actually give up! She is 9 months😭😭

    Why would anyone ever let a baby cry for more then 5 min ?! Let alone over an hour! That causes so much damage! So sad for those babies

    Cry it out is out of date and not necessary, there are some many gentle ways to get you kids to sleep this shouldn’t be promoted in my opinion.

      0 options provided and acts as if all children are the same.
      Some children (18 momths plus) cry itnoutnfor 2nnights. Few hours in total. And after they sleep well for the rest of their lives. Is that worse than 250 hours of trying tonget the baby to sleep each year and the baby waking itself up all the time, disrupting its own rest, unable to soothe itself to sleep

      @Weanus2 Рік тому +1

      Shouldn't be promoted 🤣 This video is 8 years old... If you watch the video she's actually giving guidance to Modified CIO. Its not exactly CIO, where you left and let them cry for an hour. Modified (and other versions), you go in to soothe on intervals.

    The same with Shawnell comment. I have a 14 month daughter going on 15. She sleeps in the same room with me but diff bed. She’s a difficult baby cries on everything and she been sleeping on me recently. My husband and I try the cry out loud strangedy but that doesn’t work on her.
    I don’t know if she has a learning disability because she can’t even copy anything that we do, and she doesn’t know how to blow a kiss yet. She has a problem sitting still on the high chair, and always so needy doesn’t let us do anything. Some times she’s okay some times too crazy. We want to get her learning tested but because of pandemic we’re afraid to go 😭😭
    We don’t know what to do and how to sleep train her not even my husband can put her to sleep anymore. Before when she’s a baby it’s easy for my husband now she don’t want him 😭.

    I sleep trained my baby but after she learned to walk and stand that went out the window. She’s too big for me to rock her longer than 5 min so I lay her down and she cries for about 5 min before falling asleep. Is it normal for a 11 month old to cry at every sleep time before bed. It doesn’t seem like she’s learning to just go to sleep everyday she screams to bed at least once or twice.

      @@leonardsyt I recently started laying in her crib with her until she falls asleep and then sneaking away. It’s not ideal but it’s the only way I can get her to sleep without her screaming to bed and feeling all abandoned.
