    Skinny shaming is literally everyday. Especially from relatives! Africans associate being big with having money. Others trying to make you feel good by saying “ oh wow your going to look young when your older it’s a privilege” but naa I don’t take it as a complement, even guys who you want look at you with a “aww” rather than I want you. So now I go where I feel wanted my boyfriend really helped with that.

      Ikr, I get compared to kids 15 years younger than me especially from relatives like "you are struggling weight with your little cousin". People politely sugar coat it saying "You are small" and I'm like 5"8 definitely not small. No one sees me without asking if I'm on a diet or starving myself or say things like "ahh, don't touch her oh she's going to break"

    I'm a plus size and I will tell you body shaming is literally a very bad thing, is it the fact that guys approach you and say all sort of things and in your head you think you're loved, only for you to realize that they are just after the body, the big boobs and all, or is it the fashion world, if you're a plus size you spend extra to get what you wear, it's just crazy how you will be passing and the only thing someone says to greet you is Hey Orobo 😥 but then, I'm still a work in progress, working to love my body always and always stay positive regardless of people's comment.

I mean, when it comes to some things I’d obviously wish I was skinnier or had a flatter tummy or anything but I never feel or dwell on it too much.
    Being bigger is not a crime!! It’s my body fr and it affects you in no way!!!

    Body shaming a skinny person as oppose to a "plus size" person is a very debatable topic and will not receive the same outcome.
    Honestly, I do not think it's the same but it was quite lovely that you brought it up because i never thought about it like that. It goes to show how we all view stuff like this. Keep up the new series. Love it, your Caribbean follower.

      My sister is skinny and I’m fat so I’ve seen the effects on both sides. Some days it hurts more for me, other days it hurts more for her and I comfort her. No one should be shamed for their body regardless tbh. However, in society I get a lot more negative stereotypes for being fat like “lazy”.

    • @GrowingWithM
      @GrowingWithM 2 роки тому +2

      I was body shamed as a teenager for being skinny... thats also another kind of trauma... from people asking if you're healthy to other nicknames... but yo! I just had a really fast metabolism. Now that I'm an adult and have a good amount of weight that period is still traumatic🤣

    • @GrowingWithM
      @GrowingWithM 2 роки тому +4

      I honestly think that fat shaming and skinny shaming are equally bad. As a former skinny person... skinny can almost be likened to unhealthy.. same as there is a negative connotation to fat people maybe just being lazy or whatever. At the end of the day people should just stop body shaming in general

    • @morints

    It’s the fact that I literally finished watching this before the previous video. But I definitely enjoyed this conversation mostly because I could relate to Angela a lot. It’s really important to not let what people say create a reaction that can typically ruin your day. Your attitude is a result of a reaction someone’s trying to get from you, and I think the older I get the more I realize just how irrelevant someone else’s opinions are. That being said I hope people learn to read whoever they are talking to and know how to approach them with questions especially when it has to do with weight loss or weight gain.

If I had an argument with someone they would say " abeg oo I nor go touch before you die for my hand" or " if I blow you breeze with my mouth you go just fall" even my dad *God rest his soul* wanted to fatten me up because people think he doesn't feed me.

    I can relate so much to this because I am 6ft tall and I am a little bit on the big side, and I know how people mistake me for some adult, lol I'm just 22. I grew up super skinny cause I was always working out and eating less just so I wouldn't be called Orobo cause I was already being called Ogololo. Fast forward to uni days, where I ended up dating this guy that was body shaming me. Lol I added weight just to prove I could be thick and hot. And the idiot still complained. Moral of the story is that I've learned to make choices for my body that isn't influenced by anybody. I love that I added weight cause damn I look good. I still struggle with some things that come with the flesh like rolls and stretch marks but I am gradually growing to love it and I encourage myself everyday and remind myself that I am amazing!

    Well, permit me to disagree with Angela a bit.
    I’m on the bigger side and I will only agree that Nigeria is fat phobic if we were still in 2012.
    I honestly can’t remember the last time I was body shammed rather I Intimidate people now although I am literally the sweetest person.
    Skinny girls just hate me so much, it amazes me but I’m used to that now. It’s just confidence and how I carry myself. And every guy wants to do stuff for me.
    In my head I’m the sexiest person alive and I don’t care if I’m delusional about it. this has been the most paramount part of my aura and I own every room I walk into effortlessly.
    My conclusion is, if you see yourself as that girl that radiates confidence in all ramifications, Everyone will treat you accordingly. That’s just fact.
    A guy ones told me that there are just few people in the world like me. So I owned it. ❤️

    I also think it doesn’t depend on what the person actually looks like, it depends on how they see themselves.
    The love for big women is only on Nigerian social media. They have a warped view of how a body should look. When they see how a big person looks in person they start to act one kind of way. Speaking from experience

    I was told I looked like maltina bottle then or they’ll draw a funny shape on the floor to explain how I look
    I cried a lot then
    But now I’ll take it as a compliment
    Because you notice I have a nice shape

    I don't think it's about it's origin though. It really is just a word made to describe something that was turned into a bad word. Fat literally can be measured and isn't about what you see with your eyes; so a person can look slender but after tests is discovered to be fat (overweight).

    The level of respect I have for Angelaaa.
    I’ll be so ready to fight. Before he finishes his statement I’d have slapped the silliness out of him.
    Ahhh if I was there I’d have helped you slap him 😒
