      How cool is that the only your own locomotives? Just curious how much it would cost to take an old let's say barely running locomotive restore it and repaint it I have no clue what that type of investment would be million dollars $2000000? Just curious

    My childhood... I was at the Elementary school just near the Branchville station and when we went outside for recess or gym, I would always hear the signature air whistle, and then see a great FL9 pass by on the track just nearby.

    2002, 2019, and 2033 are now owned by the Railroad Museum of New England/ Naugatuck Railroad. The 2019 sees regular service pulling tourist trains out of Thomaston, CT.

      It sounds like a steam engine's whistle

      @@Dan_isreal.08 It's the Hancock 4700 Air Whistle. It was very commonly used on New Haven locomotives in the 1950s and 60s like the FL9. A lot of FL9s eventually phased out the air whistles in favor of more traditional air horns like the K5LA, but a few still roamed around on Metro North/CDOT trackage with them as shown here.

    That Hancock Air whistle was a New Haven Exclusive! The diesel that spoke like a steam locomotive!

    From what I heard, the FL9s will return to active service this Summer for Amtrak.

    It would be nice if the railroads would use those diesels again.

    I remember these locomotives when I was a child.They would go full speed at the train station near me.

    I know they haven't seen service - I thought the plan was that half of them were getting sold and they were keeping the other half so that when they have time to rehab them they can use them to increase capacity.

    A set of C1s is now running up in Saratoga Springs on the Saratoga & North Creek Railroad. These trains have timed connections to one of the Amtrak trains that makes the stop at Saratoga Springs.

    They were built in the 50s during the McGinnis time but were delivered during G Albert Pres,The last Pres of the NHRR

    Unfortunately, the C1s just don't fit in with the museum's collection of vintage equipment. Our regular passenger trains normally consist of three CN coaches with a fourth added for volume or special events. We also own a very nice collection of Pullman passenger cars including the New Haven's former coach "Forrest Hills" which will be restored and reactivated.

    About 3 years ago, I got some shots of FL9 2019. The Naugatuck Railroad is great for excursion trips. A while ago, I saw an LIRR C1 Prototype from the late 80's or early 90's in Torrington. Are those used for excursion trips along the Naugatuck Railroad.

    I love this. It brings back wonderful memories of watching NH FL9s on the Shore Line in the late '50s through the mid '60s. Merchants Limited, Senator, and other classic NH varnish. Where were these shot? Danbury line or Waterbury line?

    The C1s are not the property of the RMNE/Naugatuck RR. They are only being stored in Torrington and have never seen service on the NAUG. They are being retrofitted for interchange compliance a couple at a time and being sold by their owner.

  • @evilwatermelon29
    @evilwatermelon29 12 років тому

    @malikrthr1 apparently the C1s have been there a while (news to me, and I LIVED in Torrington for 8 years.) I think the plan is for them to restore them so they can cram more people into the day out with Thomas rides and such, although they've got boarded windows and such now
